*GOOD MORNING SAINTS*

*SPRINGBOARD DAILY DEVOTIONAL*
*THURSDAY 11TH JUNE,2026*

*TOPIC:SORTED OUT IN CHRiSt 10 (Discipleship)*

*"Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God,and to heal the sick"*(Luke 9:1 -2)

After salvation, the most important activity for any believer is discipleship. Jesus gave the instruction to go and make disciples. Matt 28:18 *"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations...Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you..."*. The phrase โ€œmaking disciplesโ€ implies to train others and it is a continuous term. The instruction is to keep on making disciples as a lifelong endeavour. The phrase โ€œteaching them to observeโ€ explains discipleship. Luke in Acts of the apostles described Jesus' art of discipleship. Acts 1:1-5 *"The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father..."*. The phrase โ€œboth to do and teach" implies that Jesus taught them by precept and example. And from Jesus' example in our theme text, it is clear that discipleship is an on-going activity characterized by regular teaching and practice of God's word.
When Jesus went to the house of Mary and Martha, and Mary sat at His to learn. In that account, Jesus' interaction with Martha presents us a typical example of discipleship. Luke 10:38-42 *"Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her"*. Now, to sit at one's feet here implies to be in submission or to learn. This therefore, presents the fact that Mary was a disciple of Jesus. She was being trained as she was taught from the scriptures. The same term was also used in Acts 4:37 *"Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet"*. Also in Acts 5:2 *"And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet"*.
The book of Acts presents practical demonstrations of the practice of discipleship. Evidently, in the book of Acts, the word โ€œdisciple(s)โ€ was referenced about twenty - nine times. Acts 1:15 *"And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)"*. Acts 6:1-2,7 *"And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tablesโ€ฆAnd the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith"*. Observe the phrase "a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith". Priests were naturally supposed to know the law, but having believed the Gospel, they now became students. Acts 13:52 *"And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost"*. Others: Acts 9:1,10,19, 25-26, 36,38; Acts 11:26, 29;Acts 14:29,22,28; Acts 15:10; Act 16:1; Acts 18: 23,27;Acts 19:1,9,30;Acts 20:1,7, 30;Acts 21:4,16. As observed, there was an overwhelming emphasis on discipleship that the apostles or the early church had. Hence, as the word of God grew, the evidence of this was that more people were being taught, trained and discipled with the Gospel of Jesus. Thus, it can readily be affirmed that the local church ought to be a school of discipleship, that is, where believers are nurtured and brought up in the light of God's word.

๐Ÿ””GLORY! I affirm that in Christ, I am not ordinary; my life is the expression of the glory of God. Therefore, I am not subject to the circumstances and rudiments of this earthly realm. I am from above, born with an overcoming, indestructible, unconquerable life of God. The devil and his cohorts are under my feet; as I live perpetually in victory, health, dominion, and rest. I am the light of the world, fashioned to shine brightly in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation.
๐Ÿ””GLORY! I affirm that my heart is flooded with light; my path is continually illuminated. I walk in preordained pathways; thus, none of my steps slides, neither do I walk in confusion nor uncertainty. The Word of God has transformed, purify, strengthen and built my faith strong that nothing else matters. I rejoice for my salvation basking in confident expectation of good things. I live my life pleasing Him in all things. I am His crown and pearl of great value. I am His outstretched arm of love, joy, and righteousness to the world! Hallelujah!
๐Ÿ””GLORY! I affirm that I know that by Christ's death on the cross, men have been delivered from the power and dominion of the adversary, and now, through His glorious resurrection, I've been ushered into the divine life of glory, victory, miracles, signs and wonders. I bask in His anointing, grace, mercy, and love, by which I live the ever transcendent life. I begin today strong with full assurance that something is about to happen, and I will end the day stronger with invallible evidences. Great results are mine in all my endeavors. No offence is found in me, my pursuits are His plan, my desires, His purpose. My ministry is renewed in consecration and focus. My needs are met supernaturally. *"...Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon... lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. He saith to him again the second time... lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. He saith unto him the third time... lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord...thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep"*(John 21:15 -17)

In the above text, Jesus was asking Peter, "do you have great value for me?". So as Peter discharges his duty of "feeding His sheep", he's demonstrating his love for the Lord. Jesus here used two different words to explain Peter's work. He used the word "feed" in verses 15 and 17 which was translated "bosko" in the Greek. It means to provide nourishment for the sheep; also used to describe a herdman's work of providing pasture for his herd. The word "bosko" is also used in Matt.8: 30,Mark 5:11,Luke 8:32. In verse 16,the word "feed" is the Greek: "poimano"; it implies to care for, nurture, provide oversight. Paul used the word "poimano" in Acts 20:28 while charging the elders of the church in Ephesus. Peter used it also: 1 Peter 5:2 *"Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind"*. Here, Peter is saying that oversight function over the flock is excercised by feeding them via scriptures. So in our theme text,Jesus was instructing Peter to provide guidance, leadership and care for the sheep by instructing them via scriptures.
Loving God is demonstrated by teaching God's people His word in the local church. The apostles practised this too. Acts 2:41-42 *"Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers"*. The "apostles doctrine" refers to what the apostles taught. They taught what Jesus had taught them. Looking closely in Acts 19:1-8, it shows that the next thing after salvation is discipleship which is primarily exercised by teaching. This involves explanation, instruction, exhortation and corrections. Let's see Paul's approach in the same account. Acts 19: 9 *"But when divers were hardened, and believed not,but spake evil of that way before the multitude,he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus"*. Paul sorted out the disciples and nurtured them. Paul's letter to Timothy carries same instruction. 1 Tim 2:3-4 *"For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth"*. Observe the order: Salvation comes first, followed by coming to the knowledge of the truth. The term โ€œto comeโ€ implies โ€œto grow". This requires a process that takes time. It doesn't just happen once. The term "the truth" in the above text implies reality and in John's synoptic, Jesus expressly referred to Himself as the truth(John 14:6)
John used the same term to describe Jesus in (John 1:17). Hence, Jesus is the truth that is to be taught. That is why Paul called the local church the pillar of truth. 1 Tim 3:15 *"But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God,which is the church of the living God,the pillar and ground of the truth"*. Peter taught the same truth in his epistle. 1 Peter 2:2 *"As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby"*. 2 Peter 3:18 *"But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ..."*. In other words, the believer is expected to grow in knowledge of Jesus and this knowledge comes by teaching and practice. Therefore, it is evident from Jesus' instruction that the very goal of preaching the Gospel is discipleship (Matt 28:18 -20;Mark 16 :15-18; Luke 24:46-49;John 20:21 -23). Thus, after salvation comes discipleship. What goes on in the gathering of the believers as the word of God is taught and practiced is discipleship. It suffices therefore to say that a disciple of Christ is one who is being trained by the word of God. Thus, making disciple, will be ensuring that men are learning Christ in the local church. It will mean to make a person who has believed the Gospel a student of that same Gospel.

*"... All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations... Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you..."* (Matt. 28:18-20)

You are a disciple of Christ only if you are taught consistently from the scriptures. The phrase โ€œI have commanded youโ€ in our theme text implies to give charge or instruct. Hence, Jesus was instructing them to do to others what He did to them,by way of training/instructing from the scriptures and in practice. A disciple is one who is being consistently taught from the scriptures in a defined local assembly, in a definite location, with a definite leadership. Mark also recorded same event of what Jesus taught in our theme text. Mark 16:15- 18 *"And he said unto them,Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing,it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover"*. "Preach the Gospel to every creatureโ€ refers to all men. Anyone that believes the Gospel is saved. This means salvation precedes the practice of discipleship. Luke also taught same: Luke 24:46-47 *"And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem..."*. Luke emphasized: "โ€ฆthat repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations". What Mark taught as โ€œpreach the Gospelโ€ is explained by Luke as โ€œthat repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations".
In John 20:23 Jesus told them:
*"Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained"*. As seen in Mark's and Luke's account, sins are remitted (salvation) when the Gospel is preached and is believed (Acts 10:43; Mark 16:16; Rom 1:16; John 3:16;2 Cor. 5:17). Also,Jesus said to Peter in John 21:15-18 *".... Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him,Yea,Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him,Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him,Feed my sheep. He saith unto him the third time,Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him,Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep"*. Here, Jesus was saying to Peter, "Do you have great value for me"? So, as Peter discharges his responsibility of โ€œfeeding His lamb/sheepโ€, he's demonstrating his love for the Lord. Notice, Jesus applied two different words to explain what He expected Peter to do. The word "feed" in verse 15 and 17 is the Greek "bosko"; it means to provide nourishment for the sheep. It's also used to describe a herdsman, how he provides pasture for his herd (Other Usages:Matt 8:30;Mark 5:11;Luke 8:32). The word "feed" in Verse 16 is the Greek: poimano; it implies to care for, nurture, provide oversight.
The word "poimano" is seen also in Paul's charge to the elders in Ephesus. Acts 20:28 *"Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers,to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood"*. We see it also in 1 Peter 5:2 *"Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind"*. Peter is saying that oversight over the flock is exercised by feeding them via scriptures. Therefore, in John 21:15-17, Jesus was actually instructing Peter to provide guidance, leadership and care for the sheep; this goes to show how important the shepherd is in God's work in the earth. By implication, Jesus was saying to Peter, โ€œwhat you do to my flock is what you have done to me.โ€ And Jesus has explained in earlier chapter of the book of John (John10: 11,14-15, 25-28) that His sheep are those who believe the Gospel. He places premium on His church hence, loving Jesus refers to specific things you do which is to feed His flock.

*GOOD MORNING SAINTS*

*SPRINGBOARD DAILY DEVOTIONAL*
*MONDAY 8TH JUNE, JANUARY,2026*

*TOPIC: SORTED OUT IN CHRIST 7 (Discipleship)*

*"The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master"*
(Luke 6:40).

We said that a disciple is one learning from his teacher. Thus, in Matt. 4:17-22 when Jesus told Peter, Andrew, James and John "follow me, and I will make you fishers of men", it implied that He would make them to do what He was doing (to make them preachers of the Gospel of the Kingdom). He taught them to do what He did to them. Jesus' disciples were apprentices who were learning from Him. That was why they followed Him as He went about preaching, healing the sick and teaching people(Matt 5:1;Matt 8:23;Matt 9:18-19;Luke 11:1). The word "master" in our theme text means an instructor, teacher, trainer. Hence, the work of a discipler (instructor, teacher, trainer) is to train his disciples so that they begin to function like him. Luke 9:1-2 *"Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick"*. Matt 10:1 *"And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out,and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease"*. In learning the process of raising discples,we must endeavor to closely look/copy Jesus' pattern. We must observe what Jesus was doing and also the response of the disciples. Jesus' focus must be our focus too.
It's of note that Jesus focus was preaching about the kingdom, teaching, healing and casting out devils as we can see in some texts. Matt 4:17, 23 *"From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at handโ€ฆAnd Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people"*. Luke 5:17 *"And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them"*. See also:(Matt 9:35; Matt 21:23;Mark 14:49). And Peter summarising His ministry in Acts 10:38 said, *"How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him"*. This was what He went about doing; this was what He lived and died for. That was why even when He was hungry, He wouldn't abandon it. John 4:33- 34 *"Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work"*.
Jesus also taught them to pray, in response to a question from His disciples. Luke 11:1-4 *"And it came to pass, that,as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray,as John also taught his disciples. And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven,so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins;for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil"*. He also took them along with Him to pray. Luke 9:28-29 *"And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings,he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering"*. They saw Him preach, pray, heal the sick, and afterward He sent them to do the same. Therefore, His instruction in Matt. 28: 18-20 was a summary of His ministry and that was what He committed to them. Matt 28:18 *"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations.... Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you..."*. Meaning, the essence of โ€œAll power given unto me in heaven and in earth.โ€ (verse 18) was to make disciples (verse 19). Recall that the word, โ€œteachโ€ implies to โ€œmake discipleโ€, to make someone a student. This goes beyond giving information but grooming people by teaching and practice. The word โ€œteachingโ€ in verse 19 implies to explain; it also implies a curriculum that is used in a school. The phrase "โ€ฆTeaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you" implies that His disciples are to teach exactly what they have been taught and how they have been taught.
