What Does "Sure and Steadfast" Really Mean?

If you've been around the Boys' Brigade, you've probably heard the motto: "Sure and Steadfast." But what does it really mean?

The phrase comes from Hebrews 6:19, which describes hope as "an anchor of the soul, sure and steadfast." Just as an anchor keeps a ship steady during rough waters, this motto reminds us to remain firm in our faith, values, and actions, no matter what challenges come our way.

Here's what it means in everyday life:

Sure means being dependable. People can trust your words, your actions, and your commitment.

Steadfast means staying strong and consistent, even when things become difficult. It means not giving up when life gets tough.

For every Boys' Brigade member, this motto is more than a slogan—it's a guide for daily living. It encourages us to:

What is the Boys' Brigade?

Many people have heard of the Boys' Brigade, but not everyone knows what it stands for.
The Boys' Brigade is a Christian youth organisation that helps boys and young men grow in character, leadership, discipline, service, and faith. It combines fun activities with practical life skills, helping members become responsible individuals at home, in school, church, and their communities.
Members take part in activities such as:
Leadership training, Drill and marching, Camping, First aid, Community service, Sports and games, Bible study and Christian fellowship.

The Boys' Brigade believes that young people learn best by doing. Every activity is designed to build confidence, teamwork, responsibility, and respect.
For over a century, the organisation has helped shape generations of young men into dependable leaders who make a positive impact wherever they go.

Did you know? The Boys' Brigade is recognised as the world's oldest uniformed Christian youth organisation.

With hearts full of gratitude to God, we warmly invite all Boys, Officers, Patrons, friends, and well-wishers to the 30th Anniversary Celebration of our Company.

This special occasion will also feature the Retirement of our Captain and the Installation of a New Captain, marking a significant milestone in the life of our Company.
