Sermon title: KNOWING JESUS FOR YOURSELF: The Work of Christ (1) - THE OBEDIENT LIFE OF JESUS CHRIST

One of the beautiful characteristics of Jesus is His perfect life of obedience.

Worldly obedience is associated with weakness and independence. Biblical obedience is not slavery or weakness but a demonstration of love in action. It is a deliberate and joyful submission of our will to God's revealed will.

Obedience starts or begins with the heart. Therefore, before a person begins the outward obedience there has to be an inward obedience.

Jesus entire life was full of complete righteousness which gives us the salvation that we now have. Jesus never did anything of his own accord. He was in total submission to God His father - John 6:38
Since the fall of man started from the beginning, Jesus' obedience had to start from His birth.

In Romans, we see that through Jesus' obedience, we are made righteous and faith filled. And also by His righteousness, we can proclaim over every and anything that comes our way
No matter what you do, if you are not obedient, you have not done anything. Though we sin, we are redeemed through His obedience

NOTE:
Partial obedience and selective obedience is not obedience, but active obedience is obedience. One act of disobedience can cause you so much dangers and problems e.g Ananias and Sapphire, Lot's wife, Adam and Eve, etc. Knowledged without obedience is pride.

The Contrast Between The First And Last Adam
The Bible intentionally made Jesus the last Adam.

-Firstly, the first Adam lived in a beautiful garden called the garden or Eden while the last Adam stood in the garden of Gethsemane.

-Secondly, the first Adam brought death and condemnation while the last Adam brought life and redemption.

THE OBEDIENCE OF JESUS
-i. Jesus said "I have come down not to do His will but that of Him who sent him"
Jesus had His authority, never glorified Himself but went low and built His Father. In exception to our earthly parents, we should always remember to please our Father

-ii. Power follows surrendering: Jesus abandoned His will and follows God's will. Therefore, he was given a name higher than any other name because of his obedience. Submission never diminishes anyone but exalts them.

APPLICATIONS OF OBEDIENCE
Spiritual growth is not about listening to the word but obeying it immediately.
Obedience is not meant to be passive but active.
