“See To It That No One Misleads You”

By Steven J. Hogan

These are Jesus’ words, spoken in the context of His comprehensive second coming message recorded in Matthew 24. Paul, in his end-times’ epistle (2 Thessalonians 2:5), wrote something similar, “Let no one in any way deceive you.” Isn’t it instructive that in both of these passages you are warned about error? This means that the devil will lie about Christ’s coming and events leading up to it, and many people will believe his lies. But God wants you to know the truth about the end times so you won’t be deceived and misled by the devil. I hope you realize that a little error can really hurt you. It’s like poison in your food, an infection in your body, or a wrong road on a map. And so too, you don’t want to be led astray by any error in any subject, and that includes in this area of prophecy. My goal in this post is to share God’s truth to correct six different errors, specifically with regards to Daniel’s 70th week, the coming of Christ, and the rapture of the church.

1. The rapture of the church is not imminent. Many Christians believe that the rapture can take place at any time, at any moment, and that no signs or prophesied events need to take place before it can occur, but that is not true. Matthew 24:5-30 lists a number of events that need to happen before the church is raptured (verse 31). Knowing these events will help us to “recognize that He is near” (verse 33). 1 Thessalonians 5:1-9 tells us that we are not to be in darkness, surprised like the unbelievers, but we are to be awake and alert, which means we are to know what God’s word says about conditions in the world before Christ’s coming. Hebrews 10:25 further establishes this truth by saying that Christians “are to see the day drawing near.”

2. Great tribulation is not God’s wrath. Many think that the great tribulation spoken of in Matthew 24:9, 21 is God’s wrath, but that’s wrong thinking. Tribulation in the New Testament, also defined as affliction, distress, trouble and persecution, almost always refers to that which affects Christians (Romans 8:35, 2 Corinthians 4:17). Surely this distress and persecution is not God’s wrath, but Satan’s work, instigated by the Antichrist at the midpoint of Daniel’s 70th week. You must understand that great tribulation is persecution brought on by the Antichrist, but wrath is punishment brought on by God. 2 Thessalonians 1:4-10 corroborates this, for it makes it clear that tribulation directed at Christians is distinct from God’s wrath, and comes before His wrath.

3. Daniel’s 70th week is not seven years of tribulation. Some people believe the entire 70th week is tribulation, and therefore, is all God’s wrath, but that’s error. Let me give you an overview of Daniel’s 70th week to help you see what will be happening. First, tribulation will occur during the first 3½ years of the 70th week, for tribulation, believers being afflicted and persecuted, is a church-age and universal truth (Acts 14:22, John 16:33). Second, Matthew 24:15-22 informs us that great tribulation, initiated by the Antichrist, takes place during the 2nd half of Daniel’s 70th week, starting at the midpoint of that 7-year period. This tribulation is then cut short, meaning it is stopped by God sometime during those last 3½ years, and then Christians are raptured (verses 29-31). Third, God’s wrath (Revelation 8-9) starts immediately after the rapture, and continues to the end of Daniel’s 70th week. This 70th week then is comprised of tribulation and great tribulation affecting the Christians, and wrath directed at the non-Christians. (Many Jews, chosen by God to be saved, will be protected from this wrath – Revelation 7:1-8, 12:13-16).

4. The church will be on earth when the Antichrist is revealed. Many Christians think they will be raptured before the Antichrist’s coming, but that is not true. 2 Thessalonian 2:1 tells us that at Christ’s coming, Christians will be gathered to Him (this includes the rapture). But when is Christ’s coming? 2 Thessalonians 2:3-9 makes it clear that His coming, and therefore, the rapture of the church, occurs after the Antichrist’s coming. Thus, it is true that the church will be on earth when the Antichrist is revealed, and is ruling. Revelation 12:6-17 helps us to understand this, for the devil, failing to catch the Jews, goes “to make war” with the Christians, which is obviously after the midpoint of Daniel’s 70th week. Revelation 13:7 elaborates on this, for it says that the Antichrist is making war with the saints, and saints are Christians, which means the church is still on earth at that time. This same sequence of events is given in Matthew 24:9-31, again proving that the church, the body of Christ, will indeed be on earth during the rule of the Antichrist.

5. The church is raptured at the coming of Christ, and is the initial event at His coming. 1 Thessalonians 4:15 says, “we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord.” 1 Thessalonians 4:17 says, “we who are alive and remain will be caught up (raptured).” These are equivalent phrases, instructing us that Christians will be caught up (raptured) at the coming of the Lord. 2 Thessalonians 2:1 confirms this truth when it says, “with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him.” This gathering includes believers who have already gone to heaven, and those still living on earth, who are raptured at Christ’s coming. 1 Corinthians 15:22-23 also establishes this fact, for it says, “… all will be made alive. But each in His own order: Christ, the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming.”

6. The rapture of the church does not occur at the beginning of Daniel’s 70th week. That the rapture happens at the beginning of this 70th week is never stated in the Bible. 2 Thessalonians 2:1-8 explains to us that Christ’s coming and the rapture occur after the Antichrist’s coming and desecration of the temple. Since the Antichrist is revealed at the midpoint of Daniel’s 70th week (Daniel 9:27), then the rapture has to take place after that point in time. Matthew 24:15-31 tells us the same thing as 2 Thessalonians 2, that the abomination of desolation, the desecration of the temple (verse 15), caused by the Antichrist, comes before the rapture of the church (verse 31), caused by Jesus Christ. We do not know the specific time of the rapture, the day or the hour, but we do know the general time, that it will happen after the midpoint of Daniel’s 70th week, after the Antichrist is revealed, after great tribulation is cut short, and before the day of the Lord’s wrath. Matthew 24:29-36

I have given you some arguments and summary statements regarding truths and errors with respect to end-times’ prophecy. In particular, I have focused on pre-millennialism, which means Christ’s coming and the rapture of the church occur before His 1000-year reign on earth. As you can see, I have not fully developed these arguments, but I wanted to introduce them to you, and give you sufficient information to help you see that they are from God’s word, and are true. In the future, I plan to more fully explain them.

In the meantime, read and study the following prophecy passages, Matthew 24:3-41, 1 Thessalonians 4-5, 2 Thessalonians 2-3, and Revelation 6-9, 12-13. These will help you grow in your convictions about what God says will be taking place in the end times, and help you learn the truth, and discern the error. Don’t forget what Jesus said, “Watch out that no one deceives you… So be on your guard; I have told you everything in advance.” Mark 13:5, 23

*HOW TO INSPIRE MANNERS IN YOUR CHILDREN.*

1.
_When entering the house greet your children or even hug them. This should help develop their sense of love and self worth._
2.
_Be good to your neighbours and never backbite. Never speak ill of other drivers when on the road. Your children would listen, absorb and emulate._
3.
_When calling your parents, encourage your children to speak to them. When visiting your parents take your children with you. The more they see you take care of your parents the more they will learn to take care of you._
4.
_When driving them to school, don't always play albums or cds in the car. Rather, tell them some motivational stories yourself. This will have a greater impact - trust me!_
5.
_Read to them a short story and even a scripture a day – it doesn't take much time, but very impactful in creating strong bonds and wonderful memories._
6.
_Comb your hair, clean your teeth and wear presentable cloths even if sitting at home and not going out for the day. They need to learn that being clean and tidy has nothing to do with going out!_
7.
_Try not to blame or comment on every word or action they say or do. Learn to overlook and let go sometimes. This certainly builds their self-confidence._
8.
_Ask your children's permission before entering their rooms. Don't just knock and enter, but then wait for a verbal permission. They will learn to do the same when wanting to enter your room._
9.
_Apologize to your children if you made a mistake. Apologizing teaches them to be humble and polite._
10.
_Don't be sarcastic or make fun of their views or feelings, even if you "didn't mean it" and was "only joking". It really hurts._
11.
_Show respect to your children's privacy. Its important for their sense of value and self-esteem._
12.
_Don't expect that they will listen or understand the first time. Don't take it personal. But be patient and consistent._
13.
_Pray with them. Show them how to pray. Lead by example._
14.
_In addition, ask them to discuss their daily plans after the morning prayers. Children without concrete daily plans usually join others in executing theirs. They fall easy to peer pressure._
15.
_Hold them and bless them specially every morning._

_Remember other parents may need this, why keep it to yourself...! Share it wai..._
_May God bless you._

DON'T JUDGE FROM AFAR - Edmund Banigo

At 4 he was playing with his siblings and the mom was just watching them play. Suddenly he looked dizzy for about 30 seconds and slumped. This is unusual, the mom then rushed to him only to realized her son was sleeping. After much slapping and shouting the boy regained consciousness.

His mom then took him to the hospital, after a brief examination the doctor advised the boy should be observed for a period of time. The occurrence became regular, so the mom took him back to the hospital. The doctor told her that her son was suffering from HYPERSOMNIA. She hasn't heard of this before. This is a kind of sleep disorder that makes one fall asleep suddenly at anytime and any place irrespective, the doctor explained, and advised to manage it but should improve his hygiene and have him engaged actively .

This young Billy grew by managing this disorder and became a successful doctor mainly so that he could help others with such disorder. He got married, and had a beautiful family.

One day, Billy and his wife went to a function. They stood by a Conner and were discussing; others were also around. Suddenly, Billy started feeling dizzy, his wife who knew if her husband is not fully active will sleep off and slump on the ground thereby creating unnecessary attention and embarrassment is now in a dilemma to either slap her husband to gain consciousness or to allow him slump. Her emotion beat her rational and with fear she gave him a slap that brought him to consciousness immediately, as the attention of others were drawn to them.

Billy's response to his wife was sorry baby I slept off, while the woman looking embarrassed already requested for them to leave the place. So they left.

At this point anyone could guess the subject of discussion on the lips of everyone that witnessed the incident. To some she is a bad wife, to others, Billy is a woman-wrapper, while to some a failed marriage.
IT'S ALWAYS HUMAN TO BE QUICK TO JUDGE BUT A SECOND EYE INTO A MATTER COULD HELP YOU MAKE A BETTER JUDGMENT.

LET'S BE CAREFUL TO CONCLUDE.

THE GIFT OF FORGIVENESS - Edmund Banigo

It was getting dark and johnny was rehearsing with his bow and arrow, while that was going on the family cat was playing in the garden. Johnny has just started to learn how to use the bow and arrow and really don't know how to use it. So playfully he aimed at the cat and shot at the cat with no intention whatsoever to kill the cat cos he thought the arrow won't even get to the cat, but unfortunately the aim was perfect the force was right and the target was killed. Johnny was so afraid that he didn't want anybody to know, so johnny ran into the house kept his bow and arrow in one piece and took his bath like as if nothing happened.

Few moments past his younger sister walked up to him and said johnny don't even think I don't know you killed the cat cos I saw everything happened, I thought you'll report yourself but from all I have seen I think you want this to remain a secret so johnny said yes, and the sister went on to say if you want this a secret then you must agree to do my chores and let go your meat and fish after every meal. The term wasn't good but for fear johnny agreed.

Dinner is set mom announced, everyone was at the table and after the meal johnny gave his sister his meat and the father thought johnny was been kind to his younger sister and commended him for that, soon after they finished eating the mother called on to the little girl to clear the table as the culture of the family but hastily johnny obliged to do it and this was strange.

The torment on johnny went on for 2days and johnny was looking frustrated, so johnny went straight to the mom and told her what has happened how he mistakenly kill the cat and how his younger sister is taking advantage of him and seek the mother's forgiveness. The mother replied him: I SAW EVERYTHING HAPPENED THROUGH THE WINDOW AND HEARD WHEN YOUR SISTER THREATENED TO BLACKMAIL YOU. So johnny asked the mother so why did you not do anything. And the mother replied. I NEEDED YOU TO BE BOLD ENOUGH TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY OF YOUR ACTIONS OR FACE THE DISCOMFORT, I WANTED YOU TO LEARN TO APPROACH ME AS A SON AND NOT THINK YOU ARE A STRANGER. SON I FORGAVE YOU BEFORE YOU ASKED BUT I STILL NEEDED YOU TO ASK.

This is exactly how most of us are. We find it hard to approach God maybe we think our sin is unforgivable but we forget he is a father not a Master.

Some think they are so dirty they can't pray. My question is when you feel dirty is that not the best time to take your bath? Let the word of God wash you. God loves you. Rev 3:20 behold I stand at the door and knock if any hear my voice and open I will come into him and dine with him.

LIFE FROM THE EYE OF A DYING OLD MAN: Edmund Banigo

I have lived, I have lived.
I have fought, I have planed and I have executed some.
I have laughed and had good memories
I have also had sad ones.
I have been proud and I have been ashamed
I have been born and I have also given birth
I have leaved but it's time to die

Now that I look back at my whole life,
I felt like I never lived. But I lived, yet I felt like it was another me that lived.
I felt like the life I live was not mine. Like I lived another persons life. No, but I lived
Why do I feel like I never lived.
Cos if I lived I wouldn't have lived this way
I would have been a different person
I have a template in my head how I want to leave
I have in mind people I want to meet, associate and model their lifestyle.
I have the type of person I wanted to look like
If I truly really lived then this must not be my life

If only I have another chance, it felt like yesterday I was young, vibrant and enthusiastic. But now I die
I die not cos am old,
But cos I never lived
I die, not cos no one will see me on earth again. I die cos the true meaning of life is existence, existence not only in presence also in absence. Now I die and in 20yrs later no one may know I ever existed.

My true essence is not in lands, buildings and money. As they are all important but the life I lived. My legacy, my footprint. I die.
I wish I could leave again, I will do things right

I wish the young men and women would see and learn from my life. It was fast but I never knew.
I thought I had time now I die.
Leave everyday with essence. You can live on if you can train another person to carry on that good thing you started.

OPPORTUNITY IS IN OUR MAKING - Edmund Banigo

It was weekend, and a good one at that. Normally am a Fisher man, but my friend isn't, he works for a brewery firm, so seemingly he is doing well. But he is not going to work today and feels like to spend time with me his best friend so I suggested for us to go fishing together and he agrees.

We set out, it's fun actually fishing with my best friend. About 2hours gone I observed my best friend repeating same thing, if he catch a small fish he puts it into his cooler and if he catches a big fish he threw it back into the water. It seems weird to me.

After the whole fishing process as we were returning home I couldn't help but asked, Billy why have you wasted every big fish you caught but saved only the small ones, and he answered me casually, oh that's cos I only have small pots at home wouldn't be wife to take home a big fish that I can't cook.

So I went home full of my own thoughts, how people waste opportunities cos they didn't plan for it

Most people have missed very good job opportunities only if they had their papers completed

Others would have been swimming in money today only if they had worked on their talent.

There are these 3 Cs of life it will certainly meet us all at least once in a life time

Chance: the chance for greatness, the chance of winning, the chance to a big opportunity will always come

Choice: most times our choices are not done at the time when that chance comes its done in preparation for such a chance. It's not when the job came that u started running every where looking for how to make ur way in that u choose but u had made ur choice whether or not u knew it long ago.

Change: it's a popular saying that insanity is doing same thing same way and same with same conditions yet expect a different result. Be careful to know when you need to change, change is a necessary evil, no one likes change but we need it anywhere.

WHAT IS MARRIAGE - Edmund Banigo

One day a young boy asked his teacher sir what is love? After a brief explanation the boy could not be cleared so the teacher said to him I think its better experimented than explained.

The teacher told the boy to go to the school corn field and get the best looking corn with the rule of any corn the boy passed he can't return back to it. So the boy went, after about an hour the boy returned and the teacher asked why he took so long. The boy said, sir almost immediately I got to the field I found this big and good looking corn so I thought to myself it's like the field is full of big corn maybe If I go deeper I could find a corn better than this one but I keep looking and looking but I couldn't find a better corn than the first one knowing that the rule is I could never return to anyone I passed so immediately I found this one it looks fairly ok not too big but ok so I brought it.

The teacher said to the boy that's love. Most of us met love early in life but LOST It thinking we could find something better, something like the movies but ended up falling for someone less than what we left.

After saying that the boy said sir if this is love then what is marriage.

The teacher said ok boy you will do same thing but this time you will go to the wheat field and get the best wheat any wheat u passed you will not return to. After about 20 minutes the boy was back and the teacher asked him how come he had returned so soon. Then the boy said when he got to the wheat field he sought for a while and the first wheat that looked pleasant he took it cos he doesn't want what happened to him with the corn field (love field) to repeat at the wheat field (marriage field)

Then the teacher replied that is marriage. Knowing you could end up scouting for a perfect person that you will never find, you would rather go with one who is just ok and stop wasting time.

No matter how beautiful the person you are with is trust me there are another one million person more beautiful than that person,

you know most people have lost the sun while chasing after the star. Others while waiting for one big moon stars are passing them by

The beauty of tomorrow is in seizing every moment of today

He/she might not be the best but look carefully they certainly are not like the rest

IBANI MUST NOT DIE - Edmund Banigo

Appreciating what we have is a good culture, seeing reality for what it is, is a good way of seeing things, managing resources is the future. A land of wealth, beauty, friendliness, accommodating and easy going life is a land called bonny. It is said that in a twelve there is always a Judas. But a lazy and carefree eleven will give plenty freedom to one Judas to do whatsoever he will.
Where do we start?

THE PAST CALENDAR

The past calendar or should I say a quick background history of bonny. History is one important part of any develop geographical area. Because it gives the younger generation a picture of the old to know what the new should look like. The history of bonny is today treated the same way the language “IBANI” was treated when the Igbo’s came to leave with us. In the fear of teaching them our language we hid our beloved IBANI instead we learnt there’s and the effect is a loss of our dear IBANI because the future (the children) were not thought the language. Today a man who does not know the history of bonny would say that bonny is part of Igbo because bonny speaks some sought of Igbo.

The history of the land benit the salt water is silent, the younger generations do not know it. I am sure that a host of them have not had any historical glimpse of bonny by any means. If we would look at it for what it is the language and the history is fast fading away and these two are key factors to geographical development. Now the big question is WHAT DO WE DO?

A folded hand will never hold
A lame foot will never move
A blind eye will never see
A closed mouth will never eat
How are the mighty fallen
And the pride of the land withheld
The hen that refuses to lay will remain alone
The strength of a land is what the children know about her
The pride of a child is the language they speak.

IBANI OH MY BELOVED IBANI
The lamentation of a woman drawn in abaji
How have I been forgotten.
How have I been left to drawn
How have I been left in the creeks
Where no light of civilization knows my name
My grandchildren never heard about me
But, I have no fear for abaji
Already I am drawn in my own tears
A lamentation of a dying mother

Tell my grandchildren who I was
Tell the asa-awo’s how I pride myself
Not in arrogance, but
In self-esteem, loyalty and hardwork
Tell the iria-awo’s of how I danced in ikuba
And of how I walked with high shoulders
Because I was the pride of my own husband
My hands were not founded on my lap.
I fish for sengi and atabala.

Let the ekere be sounded
Call for the alili and the atamba men
I call for a solemn assembly
Let them that have the voice power speak
Let the asemebo speak for my sake
Let them give my children my tongue
Give them my history again
Restore back the old glory days.
The days when IBANI children walk with their heads high
When marriage was meaningful
And hard work was respected

Can a man bite the finger that feeds him
Tell the ones that have the voice power
To return to the roots.
A route that priced integrity and reject selfishness and greed
Because the world will come back to the point it started
No man will leave forever.
Tell them I maybe long forsaken but my voice still speaks.

I dream oh yes I dream!
I dream for a day when my children will know my tongue again
I dream for a day when my history will be sang
Ibani is a land of beauty.
With the warmth of an early rising sun
Endowed with minerals and aquatic foods
Don’t eat up my future because of today’s hunger
Do not let me die.
PLEASE!!
