Present: Polygamy in Islam
Alhamdulilah all praises and adoration belongs to Almighty Allah the Lord of the entire universe, He who created everything in pairs and made himself a single being, The creator of sleep but never slumber.
I extend my greetings and salutations to the beloved Prophet of Allah Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) The seal of all the Prophets sent to the world.

Said:
“Philosopher,orator,apostle,legislator,warrior,conqueror of ideas,restorer of rational dogmas, of a cult without images, founder of twenty terrestrial empires and of one spiritual empire. That is Muhammad. As regards all standards by which human greatness may be measured,we may well ask, IS THERE SOMEONE GREATER THAN HIM(MUHAMMAD)?
This is to serve as a response to one of our dearest Christian sister who asked about the concept of polygamy in Islam
According to an offline Oxford Dictionary the term Polygamy refers to the state of been married to more than one wife.
Islam didn’t forbid polygamy but it restricted and regulated it. In Islam, it is not compulsory to marry more than one wife but it is permissible for genuine reasons.
A man can marry a second wife if he can demonstrate full respect,justice and impartiality to his wives (Quran 3:4)
وَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ أَلَّا تُقْسِطُوا فِي الْيَتَامَىٰ فَانكِحُوا مَا طَابَ لَكُم مِّنَ النِّسَاءِ مَثْنَىٰ وَثُلَاثَ وَرُبَاعَ ۖ فَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ أَلَّا تَعْدِلُوا فَوَاحِدَةً أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ أَدْنَىٰ أَلَّا تَعُولُوا
4 : 3 And if (you wish to marry them and) you fear that you will not be able to do justice to the orphan girls then (marry them not, rather) marry of women (other than these) as may be agreeable to you, (you may marry) two or three or four (provided you do justice to them), but if you fear that you will not be able to deal (with all of them) equitably then (confine yourselves only to) one, or (you may marry) that whom your right hands possess (- your female captives of war). That is the best way to avoid doing injustice.
MUHAMMAD DIDN’T INTRODUCE POLYGAMY:
In fact polygamy existed before the birth of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) without any limitation to the number. It was very common practice for a man to have more than one woman either as wives or as concubines or slaves.
POLYGAMY IN CHRISTIANITY
1)Jacob has more than one wives
Genesis 32:22-24
And He rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two womenservants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford Jabbok.
2)Abraham married three wives
Genesis 12:5
And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came. [Genesis 12]
Genesis 16:3
And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife. [Genesis 16]
Genesis 25:1
Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah. [Genesis 25]
3. Isaiah 4:1-2(kjv)
“And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach”
“In that day shall the branch of the Lord be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel”
4)Jacob has more than one wife
(Genesis 31:17)
“Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his WIVES upon camels”
5)David has more than one wife
1 Samuel 30:5
“And David's two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite”
6)Solomon has more than one wife
1 King 11:3
“And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart”
7)David took more wives
1 Chronicles 14:3
“And David took more wives at Jerusalem: and David begat more sons and daughters”
2 Samuel 5:13
“And David took him more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he was come from Hebron: and there were yet sons and daughters born to David”
REASON AND LOGIC PART 3
Reason is God’s greatest gift of man. It is what makes man recognize the Truth. Reason is what has made man superior to the rest of the creature. To have no respect for reason is to have no respect for Truth.
In seeking the truth, one has to be very reasonable,objective,critical,knowledgeable, logic etc. When one has found the truth and can prove it is really the truth then it may be appropriate to be dogmatic in following it.
Human are unique in nature because of our ability to differentiate between truth and falsehood, right and wrong, good and bad.
Reasoning is needed in every aspect of human daily activities, and as a result human disagrees on certain issues or aspects base on their level of reasoning or perceptive.
My dear readers (Christian And Muslim) I would like ours to open our mind and reason concerning our salvation, let’s forget about our personal interests, ignore human documentation or claims and hold strong to the words and books of our maker, the Lord.
My dear Christian brothers and sisters, our main purpose of our existence on earth is to worship and glorify our creator who had created our in pairs from a single souls and made ours in different languages and tribes so as to enable ours understand ourselves.
Christians and Muslims are originated from a single soul( Adam and Eve) and both believed in the existence of God, also in his messengers but one may well ask where lies the differences in both religion.
Muslim question any knowledge which was introduced to them and seek for reference and apply their knowledge and reasoning to justify it. But on the other hands, Christians believe in whatever is been preached or said by their pastors without question or seeking for reference, even the Lord himself said in the Book of Jeremiah 14:14” The prophet are prophesying lies in my name, I didn’t sent them neither have I commanded them, but they are prophesying to you a lying vision.......”
My dear Christians brothers and sisters if the Lord himself said he didn’t send those pastors or bishop please why are you still believing in their says and claims.
Reason is very important and peculiar in human life, please apply your sense to the following questions and reasoning along with it if you are truly in search of Salvation which Allah has already promised the Muslim.
REASON AND LOGIC (POLYGAMY)
1. If truly marrying more than a single wife is considered as a sin as many Christians claimed, one may well asked are those mentioned prophet of God committed a sin for marrying more than one wife?
2. My dear Christians sisters would be prefer your husband to satisfy his sexual urge by marrying a second wife or have numerous concubines?
3. If all those reference to polygamy are only established in the Old Testament, why are many modern Christians rejecting the teachings claiming Jesus Christ brought a new teaching, is the Old Testament not part of the Bible again?
4. Jesus Christ said (Matthew 5:17)”Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. The said he haven’t come to destroy or abolish the previous law of the Prophet and among the previous law of the Prophet is Polygamy, why then are you against it.
5. If truly you are Christ-like and follows all the teaching of Jesus Christ why then are you marrying since Jesus Christ never marry?
6. The Glorious Quran as quoted above supported polygamy, just as the Bible also supported it in the book of (Exodus 21:10)”If he take him another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish”
7. My dear sister would be prefer to be someone’s concubine or a second or third wife? The ball is in your court play it wisely.
