THEME; THE BENEFITS OF AFFLICTIONS

MEMORISE
For the lightness of our present affliction works out for us a far more excellent eternal weight of glory, 2Corinthians 4:17

READ: Judges 6:1-10
1And the sons of Israel did evil in the sight of Jehovah. And Jehovah delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.

2And the hand of Midian was strong against Israel. Before the faces of Midian, the sons of Israel made themselves dens in the mountains, and caves and strongholds.

3And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the sons of the east, even they came up against them.

4And they camped against them and destroyed the increase of the earth, until you come to Gaza. And they left no food for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass.

5For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as locusts for multitude, both they and their camels were without number. And they entered into the land to destroy it.

6And Israel was made very poor because of the Midianites. And the sons of Israel cried to Jehovah.

7And it happened, when the sons of Israel cried to Jehovah because of the Midianites,

8Jehovah sent a man, a prophet to the sons of Israel, who said to them, So says Jehovah, the God of Israel: I brought you up from Egypt and brought you forth out of the house of bo***ge.

9And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all who oppressed you, and drove them out from before you and gave you their land.

10And I said to you, I am Jehovah your God. Do not fear the gods of the Amorites in whose land you live. But you have not obeyed My voice.

MESSAGE
Afflictions are situations that we typically pray against. Interestingly however, afflictions have their benefits in the life of a person. One of the typical benefits of afflictions is that they draw men back to God, especially when faced with challenges they cannot surmount by themselves. In our Bible reading today, we see the afflictions of the children of Israel at the hands of the Midianites and Amalekites. These two nations attacked Israel successfully from time to time, causing them to suffer greatly. These afflictions drew the Israelites back to the God of their fathers, who they had neglected for strange gods, as we see in Judges 6:7:

“And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the Lord because of the Midianites,”

God was then able to speak to them through His prophet whom they would not have listened to but for the affliction. The Lord reminded them that He was still their God, far superior to the gods of the Amorites and the gentiles among whom they were living.

One lesson to learn from this fall of Israel is that serving other gods will always bring affliction. Also, the environment in which a person lives or operates could lead to a departure from serving God. Many of the sound doctrines we cherished in the past have been trashed due to globalization and our contact with the Amorites, Canaanites and Jebusites of the present age. This has led to many ungodly practices among believers. This in turn causes grave afflictions. Sicknesses that were not mentioned among the believers before are now commonplace. For example, where would high blood pressure come from when a believer’s life is full of joy and the peace of God? A believer of old did not compete with the so-called rich people of the world and would seek God’s counsel before engaging in any enterprise. Believers ought to be led by the Holy Spirit on what line of business they should pursue. Failure to do this leads to loss of peace and rest of mind.

The COVID-19 pandemic is also a case in point on how afflictions can draw people to God.. All thanks to God as the Church is now retracing her steps to the old rugged way of peace and joy. May the Lord help us, in Jesus’ mighty name.

PRAYER POINT.
Father, heal our backsliding as a church; have mercy on us and send Your salvation in the mighty name of Jesus.

THEME: THE BEGINNING OF MONTHS.

MEMORISE:
This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you. Exodus 12:2

READ: Joel 2:23-27.
23 Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.

24 And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the vats shall overflow with wine and oil.

25 And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.

26 And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.

27 And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.

MESSAGE:
The Lord has helped us to pass over into a glorious new year. Let somebody shout hallelujah! The topic of our devotional today is very prophetic and I join my faith with yours to decree that this month shall be unto you the beginning of great and mighty miracles in your life in the mighty name of Jesus. as seen in our memory verse today, God is telling us that this is a beginning of months we shall not forget for good in a hurry. It is the beginning of freedom from all bo***ge, sorrow, poverty, sickness, failure and eternal perdition for those who have given their lives to Christ.

God describes the period of the first Passover which was followed by the deliverance of the children of Israel as the beginning of months. Beloved, you have not started to live until you are totally free from bo***ge. In spite of the fact that the children of Israel had lived for over 400years in bo***ge, the month of their deliverance was described by God as the actual month that counted! What did they do to obtain the freedom that announced the counting of their existence? They applied the blood of the lamb as they were instructed to do. This was a similitude of the blood of Jesus that was to be shed for our deliverance from all forms of bo***ge. The Bible says:
“For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Hebrews 9:13-14

I congratulate fellow child of God all over the world and pray that nothing would rob us of our freedom in Christ throughout this year and beyond, in Jesus’ name. as we read in the Bible reading today, may the blessings of the Lord fill our lives to overflow in Jesus’ name. if however, you are yet to give your life to Jesus, I encourage you to do so today so that you may be free from the bo***ge of the devil. The blood of Jesus is still very much accessible through faith; just confess you sins, repent of them and be cleansed by the blood of Jesus (1 John 1:7-9). It shall be well with you. Happy New Year, in Jesus’ name.

PRAYER POINT:
Lord, I thank You for sustaining me throughout 2021 and for brining me into another year. Please let this year indeed mark the beginning of outstanding miracles in my life, in Jesus’ name.

1.Thank You, Father, for making me the light of the world; and for making the light so powerful, that darkness could not comprehend it.

2.Father, in anyway I have fallen short of your glory, please, have mercy and forgive me; let Your mercy prevail over any judgement of sin in my life, in Jesus name.

3.Father, let Your fire fall upon my life and let my life never remain the same again; in Jesus name.

4.I bind and destroy by Your fire, every spirit of fear hindering me from opening my mouth to preach the gospel, in Jesus name.

MEMORISE:
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16

READ: Matthew 5:13-16
13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

MESSAGE:
There is something about fire: whatever comes around it feels its heat. It changes things around itself. Even the atmosphere around it is different. Fire does not conform to its environment; it changes it. When you get into a new environment, can people notice the Holy Spirit in you? When they come around you, do they notice the difference between you and everybody else? Many Christians these days try to quench their fire so as to blend in with the environment. I will never do that! If you are not on fire for God and you come around me, you will have to catch the fire. Fire is fearless; it does not run from things, things run from it.
You should not be adjusting for sinners; sinners should be adjusting for you. Everybody knows irrespective of the nature of the occasion, as long as you give me the microphone and I know that there are some sinners in that hall, I will talk about holiness and I will make an altar call. If you are not willing to live holy, you will find it difficult to stay around me because I will not stop talking about holiness. When you get to a new environment, do you preach the gospel to them or try to hide your fire? Peter was going to hide his fire in John 18:15-27 because of fear. He was so timid at the crucifixion of Christ that he denied Jesus three times. After Jesus died, Peter decided to go back into fishing (John 21:3), but on the day of Pentecost, the moment the fire of the Holy Spirit fell on him, his fear disappeared and He witnessed in public. If you are too scared to open your mouth and preach the gospel now, what you need is the fire of the Holy Spirit. 2 Timothy 1:7 says:
*“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”*
Fear is a spirit and if it is not a spirit from God, then it is from the devil. The Holy Spirit will drive that spirit of fear out of your life, in Jesus’ name.
When fire is in a place, certain things cannot come near that environment. There was a mad man in Ilesha many years ago who chased a lady everywhere she went. She eventually ran into my mother’s compound and the mad man stopped. He couldn’t go in because the demons in him could not go near the fire. When you step into a place, demons should not be able to operate there anymore because of the fire you carry. Are demons still disturbing you? You need to cry to God for fire. When the fire comes, all the demons will flee.

PRAYER POINT:
Father, please let me carry Your fire, in Jesus’ name.
