Demand It!
Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.” And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.
- 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 (NKV)
Jabez’s mother called him pain and it set things in motion. From all indications, the lives of people followed after their names. God Himself renamed Abram and Sarai. A higher law and a superior voice activated a better destiny. Jabez’s brothers obviously accepted whatever their names were and what such names caused them, if not he wouldn’t be called or considered to be more honourable than them for asking for a destiny change. He called on the One who had the power to change things, to reverse the implications of the name and grant him the entire opposite and, the Bible says that God granted his request.
He was considered more honourable because he challenged his destiny by going to God with it. The name was given without his knowledge, consent, or permission. So, from birth, someone of higher authority over his life cursed his destiny by pronouncing a name over him. He was indeed more honourable to have recognized that God is a superior authority over his mother and went to this Higher Authority for a reversal of destiny, and he received his request. Amen.
As a child of God, your destiny was re-written the day you accepted the Lordship of Jesus Christ over your life, and you stepped into that realm where better promises have been crafted and ratified through the blood of Jesus with your name on it. You, however, still live on this side of the divide. You are still in this fallen world where the devil is on a rampage. You need to know that your fight is against the devil who is an outlaw and who would hold onto anything he can to make God look bad to His children. You must therefore demand it! Jabez would have lived and died a wretched and unfulfilled man if he didn’t demand a change. You have a better promise based on a better covenant; you must demand the delivery of the total package promised to you by God who cannot lie. Refuse to give the devil that satisfaction he seeks through your blaming God or complaining about what is not working.
Beloved, recognize that you operate by a higher law now. Demand and enforce your new destiny through Christ!
