POINT THREE: THE ASSURED CONTINUING OF THE CHURCH.
The gates of hell shall not prevail against it. This implies that the Church has enemies that fight against it, and endeavour its ruin and overthrow. This also implies the Church is on the offensive and its master will plunder the domain of Satan.
The Church in Nigeria is undergoing some challenges which is pushing too far, but it is certain, the gates of hell (organized powers) shall not prevail. This assures us that the enemies of the Church shall not gain their point while the world stands, Christ will have a Church in it. Somewhere or other, the Christian religion shall have a being, though not always in the same degree of purity and splendor, yet so as that the entail of it shall never be quite cut off. The Church may be foiled in particular encounters, but in the main battle, it shall come off more than a conqueror.
CONFESSIONS AND PRAYERS
Every organized power, plotting the death of the Church, hear ye the word of the Lord, you shall be torn to pieces in the name of Jesus Christ.
Any human personality delegated to frustrate the Church, die in the name of Jesus Christ.
Church of Jesus Christ, match on to victory in the name of Jesus Christ.

ACTIVITIES OF DEMONIC AND SATANIC POWERS AGAINST THE CHURCH
In Acts 5:34-39, we saw the defence for the Church after their arrest.
In Acts 7:54-60, Stephen was killed by the powers of hell.
In Acts 12:1-5, James was killed by Herod the king, while Apostle Peter was imprisoned.
Apostle John the beloved was banished to the Island of Patmos, and was thrown into boiling oil, during the Neronian persecution (Rev. 1:9).
Some believers were martyred in the Pergamum Church in Asia (Rev. 2:13)
John the Baptist was beheaded by Herod the Tetrarch (Matt. 11:2; 14:3-11) for speaking the truth.
Apostle Paul suffered untold persecutions (II Tim. 3:10-11)
According to Church history, Emperor Nero beheaded Apostle Paul, and also killed Apostle Peter, nailing him downward in a cross.
Emperor Nero burnt Rome, but accused the Christians to be responsible for it.
In Nigeria, a CAN Chairman was beheaded in the northern part by the Boko Haram jihadists (Facebook 2020).

POINT TWO: THE GATES OF HELL
Hell is defined as the abode of evil spirits, infernal regions, place of eternal punishment or extreme torment. Hell as a real place, it is a place of consciousness, it is a description of organized wicked powers against the Church of Jesus Christ; it has gates, the gates suggest the picture of a fortress or prison which lock in the dead and lock out their rescuers. The Church has suffered numerous and untold persecutions, with unhidden actions to destroy and waste it, but God has been faithful (Is. 38:10; Mt. 16:18; Rev. 1:18)

TOPIC: GATES OF HELL SHALL NOT PREVAIL AGAINST THE CHURCH OF CHRIST
TEXTS: MAT. 16:18; REV. 1:13-18; 3:7; ACTS 5:34-39.
MEMORY VERSE: “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:18
AIM: To let the Church know that the Church is the property and supreme interest of Christ and there is nothing any human can do to stop the Church.
LESSON CONTENT AND DISCUSSION
The Church, right from inception has suffered or been persecuted by various people in government and people of various religions. Majority of their actions was to waste and stop the Church, their actions and attitudes towards the Church has been horrible. Some Christians were thrown to hungry lions which tore them to pieces, some were sawn apart, some were burnt alive, mention them, they are endless, but they have not succeeded to silence the Church because of the person who owns and who is in the Church (Rev. 1:13,20; 2:4)
POINT ONE: THE CHURCH
The Church is the body of Christ, made up of all born-again believers. The Church is the mystic body and bride of Jesus Christ (Rev. 7:9, 14; Eph. 5:23-25,32).
It is a number of the children of men called out of the world, and set apart from it, and dedicated to Christ. The Church in this world, is like a house in the building. It is a comfort that Christ, who has divine wisdom and power, undertakes to build.
The Church is built upon a rock (Christ – 1 Cor. 10:4), a firm, strong, and lasting foundation, which time will not waste, enemies and satanic powers will not subdue, nor any confrontations (1 Corth. 12:12-13; Eph. 2:20-22; 4:4-6, Acts 5:13-16, 7:38; Rev. 1:13-18).
