Mind Your Mind and Heart

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.” Col 3:15-16 (NIV)

A wise christian writer once wrote that, “Sadly, misbeliefs, whether verbal or visual, are the direct cause of emotional turmoil, maladaptive behavior, and most self-destructive behavior, such as overeating, smoking, lying, substance abuse, or adultery, to name a few.” This is true, the consequences of misbeliefs, misinterpretations of events and skewed predictions about outcomes often lead us to despair and the dysregulation of our emotions. Therefore it is crucial that we protect our heart and our mind. Paul shares how can do this. First he says that we are to let the peace that comes from knowing Christ rule in our hearts. The heart is where our emotions, imagination, visualizations, dreams and aspirations come from. We need to let Christ rule in each of these areas. He should fill our imaginations, dreams and visions with His peace. Satan uses our imagination. Have you ever noticed that you have certain kinds of feelings in technicolor, surround sound and 3-D? It is the same with anger, hopelessness and any other of our painful emotions. Our imagination goes wild. Instead, we need to let the peace of Christ fill our hearts. We need Him to be the Lord of our imagination. Second, Paul writes, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” It is the word of God that challenges and helps correct any negative core belief. As His word dwells in our minds we will begin to see it spill over into our belief system. This happens through admonishing one another with all wisdom, and singing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.” Today give God both your heart and your mind. Let Him be the Lord of your thoughts and imagination. Glory to God.

Prayer point:
Heavenly Father, please let your peace rule in my heart. Let your word dwell in my mind. Help me grow with others as we admonish each other with all wisdom. May I be blessed through the singing of psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. And may I be filled with gratitude in my heart to you dear Lord. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Trade Fear For Love

Let all who fear the LORD repeat: “His faithful love endures forever.” In my distress I prayed to the LORD, and the LORD answered me and set me free. The LORD is for me, so I will have no fear. Ps 118:4-6 (NLT)

How much of your time is spent in fear? Not much you may say. Okay, how much of your time is spent in defending or protecting yourself? How many thoughts are spent planning and plotting every detail of your life in order to make everything seem just right. Why? Because you fear that others may think poorly of you. One way or another, fear plays a large part in our life. In today’s passage the Psalmist has found an answer for his fear. When he was in distress he prayed to God and God set him free. Because of God’s loving intervention the author no longer feared. Rather, he meditated on God’s love and learned to trust in that love. Isn’t that what you and I need to do? Today, when fear comes to us, let us do what the Psalmist did. Let’s pray to God and let Him answer us. He will, because His love endures forever. Glory to God.

Prayer point:
Father, help me overcome my fears. Instead of being fearful, help me to trust in Your faithful love. I give my life to You and ask You to guide me, protect me and set me free from the bo***ge of fear. In Jesus name. AMEN

Trusting God

“Praise the LORD! For he has heard my cry for mercy. The LORD is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.” Psa 28:6-8 (NLT)

It is hard to relax especially in our kind of modern world. I mean really relax. Why is it? We say we have faith and yet we are wound up tighter than a spring ready to snap at the next bit of pressure. Perhaps it is because when it comes to living life on our own, we are way over our head. We try, but life is so complicated. There are so many variables. But the truth is, God never intended us to live life all by ourself. He wants us to depend on Him. He wants us to live with by love and mercy helping us along the way. This is where fellowship with God is born. When we acknowledge that He is God, that He loves us and we begin to communicate with Him and share our inner struggles and needs, He hears us and gives us the help we need. God is pleased. And so are we. David understood this and proclaimed, “I trust Him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.” Today, relax, give it all to God. Trust Him, He will have mercy and help you in today's overwhelming world. Glory to God.

Prayer point:
Father God, I come and bring all my burdens to You. I am so tired of trying to fix everything myself. I need you. I ask you for mercy. Please help me today, I pray. In Jesus name. AMEN

His Word

“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pe*****tes even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Heb 4:12 (NIV)

How important is it for you and I to spend time with God in His word? It is imperative! It is a must. If we are going to live the kind of life God wants us to, then we must spend time listening to what God has to say about it. Everything we do is based on the various beliefs, perceptions, and assumptions we have. Many of these were shaped in childhood. Others are the result of the knowledge and experience we pick up as adults. If we are going to shape our thinking and behavior so that it aligns with His will for us, we must let His word pe*****te deep into our heart and make all the necessary changes it needs to. The author of Hebrews compares the word of God to a sharp, double edged sword. Just like a sword can cut deep into our flesh and bone, so God’s word cuts to the thoughts and attitudes that we hide deep in our heart. God then can use His word to judge and correct those core beliefs that guide the way we live. Habits, addictions, compulsive behavior, negative emotions can all change, if we let His living and active word work in our heart. Allow the word of God to pe*****te through into you and see how much and great changes will appear in your life. Glory to God.

Prayer point:
Father, please use your word to mold me, change me and make me more like you. Cut to my inner thoughts and beliefs. Judge them, correct them and align them with yours. In Jesus Name. Amen

Pray According To His Will

"And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him". 1 John 5:14-15 (KJV)

John shares a very significant secret about praying. If we want to see answers to prayer, then we need to pray according to God’s will. It sounds like circular logic, but is it? Think about it. Jesus came to do what? The will of His Father. He said, “For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.” Why should we be any different? But, you say, “I’m not Jesus.” How true, but again, what did Jesus say? He said, ‘“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. – He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me.” But this is different from our normal way of praying. We need to learn to pray according to His will. It is like watching a sports game for the first time. You don’t understand anything. But what happens after you start to play? You start to understand what is going on and you get better and better at it. Likewise, God wants us to join Him in His work in this world. Let’s get to know Him. Let’s spend time with Him. Instead of just praying, let’s ask God, “Father, how do you want me to pray? What is your will in this matter? How can I join you in this?” As we seek His will and learn to wait on Him, we will grow in confidence and He will give us the direction we need. He will answer our prayers. Hallelujah!

Prayer point
Heavenly Father, teach me to pray. More than that, teach me what to pray. I want to do your will. I want to join you in your work. As I seek your will, show me what to pray for. I want to ask according to Your will. In Jesus name. AMEN

How Shall We Live?

“We live in such a way that no one will stumble because of us, and no one will find fault with our ministry. – We prove ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, our kindness, by the Holy Spirit within us, and by our sincere love.” II Cor 6:3, 6 (NLT)

Christ has commanded us to be His servants in this world. We are representing Him. When people see us they should see Christ living in us. That is what Paul tried to do. He was trying to live in such a way that nobody would be able to discredit the Lord because of his ministry. But how? How could he gain the moral authority needed to help spread the gospel? He did it by living a pure life of Godliness. He did it by being patient in his suffering, trusting God with His life. Paul’s kindness and sincere love also went far in given him favor with the people. All this was possible because the Holy Spirit filled Paul with love, joy, peace, patience and all the other attributes that he needed to be effective in his testimony of Christ’s love. Finally, it was Paul’s sincere love that enabled him to win people to Christ. Today, let us go into the world that God has called us to minister in. Let’s live the same way Paul did and help others to come to a saving knowledge of Christ. A sincere life is a life lived for others to emulate. Glory to God

Prayer point:
Father, help me live just like Paul. Help me live in a way that those around me every day would see something in me that would lead them to you. In Jesus name. AMEN
