Sermon: Apt. Frank Okparume
Topic: Authority Over the Enemy
Texts: Colossians 2:15, Luke 10:19, James 4:7
The problem with believers is a lack of awareness; they do not know that they have been given authority. You do not just desire the results of authority—you work with it.
How to Walk in Authority Over the Enemy
1. Know Who the Enemy Is
The devil is not God's equal. He seeks to deceive, destroy, accuse, and tempt.
2. Jesus Has Already Defeated the Enemy
The resurrection was God's declaration of Jesus Christ's victory. Jesus canceled sin, death, and the grave.
“And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” — Colossians 2:15 (KJV)
“So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. Oh death where is thy sting? Oh grave where is thy victory?” — 1 Corinthians 15:54-55 (KJV)
3. Jesus Gave Authority to His Disciples
Authority is given. The believer's authority is granted to us through the victory of Jesus Christ.
“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy.” — Luke 10:19 (KJV)
4. Our Authority Is Over All Power
Power speaks of ability; authority speaks of the right to exercise dominion.
5. Believers Must Submit to God
Our authority flows from our relationship with God. Therefore, the deeper our relationship with Him, the more authority we command.
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” — James 4:7 (KJV)
6. We Are Called to Resist the Enemy
We are not called to be intimidated by the enemy, but to resist him through the authority we have received in Christ.
7. The Word of God Is a Weapon
The Word of God is an important weapon in dealing with the enemy.
8. Faith Is Part of Our Defense
Faith is part of our defense against the attacks of the enemy.
“Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” — Ephesians 6:16 (KJV)
9. The Mind Is a Major Battleground
The enemy seeks to influence the mind through deception, fear, and lies. Therefore, believers must guard their minds with the Word of God.
10. The Name of Jesus Is an Authority
There is authority in the name of Jesus. The name of Jesus is above every other name.
“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name.” — Philippians 2:9 (KJV)
11. Don't Be Intimidated by the Enemy
As believers, we must understand the authority we have received through Christ and refuse to be intimidated by the enemy.
“Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” — 1 John 4:4 (KJV)
Know your authority. Walk in your authority. Do not be intimidated by the enemy.
