TOPIC: IDOLATRY.
TEXT: 1 Kgs 15:8-13; Lev 19:4,26; 1 Jn 5:21.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Idols are false gods created by men.They are the works of men's hands.
However, they are backed by fallen spirits through which they manipulate people's lives, destinies, places and communities.
MEMORY VERSE:
" Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from Idolatry." 1 Cor 10:14.
INTRODUCTION:
Generally speaking, an idol is anything you pay allegiance to instead of God.
Anything and everything that takes the place of God in your life is an idol.
Specifically, idols are images, curved objects, grooves, molded objects etc that people bow down to, render their worship to.
Idolatry is the Worship of idols.
It is paying homage to creatures rather than
the Creator.
They includes image worship, nature worship (the worship of the sun, moon, stars, wind, rivers, hills, trees, stones etc).
It will interest you to know that many things are associated with idolatry such as witchcraft, occultism, covetousness, uncleanliness, filthiness etc.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
1 # The believer is warned to flee from Idolatry.
A true believer is never to have anything to do with idolatry.1 Cor 10:4, 1 Jn 5:21, Acts 15:28-29.
2 # Giving yourself to the worship of idols in any disguise is sin and evil in the sight of God. Giving your time, money, material, energy in the worship of idols is sin before God. Exo 20:3-5, Ezek 14:3-7.
3 # The believer should ensure that any object, image, groove etc that represent idolatry are adequately destroyed. Keeping anything that has to do with idols in your possession as a believer in sin and evil in the sight of God. Acts 19:18-19; .2 Chron 34:1-7.
4 # The believer is also warned not to have fellowship with idolaters. We are never to encourage, support or admire idolaters but to urge them to repent. 2 Cor 6:14-18.
5 # The believer is to flee from so called worship centres/churches where they worship idols in di
