SEPTEMBER 3
PEOPLE EASILY DO WHAT YOU ARE DOING
Chose a good reputation over great riches, for being held in high esteem is better than having silver or gold
Proverbs 22:1
No matter how much you preach to people and give instructions; you cannot make people do what you are not doing yourself.
At home with your children, at work with your employees or at school with your students, your example is more important than anything you will ever say.
You cannot only teach people how to do the right things, but you must also set the pace by doing those same things, this way they will know that you really understand what you are talking about.
Much of the collapse in our society and it's systems is largely due to the fact that we have more lip service than we have action.
Everyone seems to know what should have been done, everyone knows where the fault lies, and everyone knows the steps to be taken but like the old story- who will bell the cat?
Nobody has all the time in the world and whatever you choose to live your life doing, you have very limited time that even your choices are further reduced. The little you have must be spent modeling the right things for the next generation.
This is really what sustainable development is about- one generation meeting its needs and not jeopardizing the next generation’s ability to meet its own needs.
If we leave money, wealth, property and fortune for our children and we spent all our lives living by the wrong values and making choices that will prevent them from making the most of what they have been left with, what good is that? Today you see the children of the rich and famous people who pass away and their children cannot hold their fame and fortune for as little as two months.
There is a trend in Africa that we are happy about and it is actually a tragedy. If someone has been in a position for a long time and is replaced by another person, most of the time the replacement hardly does better than the predecessor.
Then the predecessor is happy to say “it was better when I was in charge”. This does not necessarily mean that you were better, it might also be an indication that you failed to lead. because a good leader is able to replicate himself in someone and that one carries on his values.
You can maintain a good name long after you are gone because people will always remember your example. Has it ever struck you that the disciples of Jesus were first called Christians because the people saw the values and lifestyle of Jesus in them long after Jesus was gone?
ACTION PLAN: This great morning, I want you to examine the life you live, are you a leader, mentor or model? You should leave your signature in someone’s life for good.
PRAYER
Let me be greater than my predecessors while my successors become better than I am.
TODAY’S DECLARATION
I declare that I love the better part of it all. I will not be held back by the good of today to forget the better which I need to change to. God is the better, I will pursue Him to arrive there, Amen
