THE CHOSEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL

MORNING TEXT: MATTHEW 5:20

MESSAGE
In place of abolishing or destroying the law - Jesus put new meaning into it. As He expounded it, it went far more deeply into people's lives, than by the religionists of His time had understood to go. They had taught that a rigid external obedience was required; but Jesus told them that if this were all they had, they could not enter the kingdom of Heaven. See Jesus' emphasis in our text, "For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law - you will certainly not enter the kingdom of Heaven!" Instead of lowering the requirements of the divine law - He elevated them and gave them a new meaning. He said the righteousness of His followers must be a great deal better than that of the average professors of religion in His day. They had a sound creed, and were meticulous in the observance of the ten thousand minute rules about ceremony, dress, and devout manners; but their lives were full of hardness, pride, selfishness, and hypocrisies! The only righteousness that will be accepted by Christ - is that which has its origin in the heart, and then produces obedience and holiness in all the life. Good day.

PRAYER POINTS: START WITH PRAISE AND WORSHIP
1. Thank God for making you an evidence of His goodness.
2. Pray the Holy Spirit to completely take over your being.
3. Pray for grace to enable you exhibit the true nature of Christ.
4. Pray that the spirit of obedience should take over your heart.

EVENING SESSION: MATTHEW. 5:20
Every born again ought to apply this truth very closely. Uniting with the Church, does not make one a Christian. The careful observance of all the ordinances and rules of the Church, does not make one a Christian. There must be faith, love, dutiful obedience and submission. Christ demands in His followers a high standard of morality. In place of mere external and formal obedience - the law is written on the heart of the true believer, and he obeys it from within. We should strive to make our obedience so deep and so loyal - that our lives will reflect in every feature the radiancy of Christ! Good night.

THE CHOSEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL

MORNING TEXT: LUKE 6: 28-30

MESSAGE
This is a radical call by Jesus for non-retaliation, extreme generosity, and breaking the cycle of violence. Our text says to turn the other cheek and give up more than is asked because expressing love outweighs exerting our rights. You can't lose when you show others the boundless care of the Lord. You gain His blessing, and what's more, someone could be saved because of your example. It commands followers to respond to personal insults and theft with mercy rather than vengeance, placing trust in God's justice. This instruction from Christ Himself might be satirical and more of exaggeration in the face of it. Nobody could subject himself to receive a slap on one cheek and turn the other side of the cheek for another slap. It goes further to explain how the believers should be elastic enough to containing the excesses of others. It underscores the contagious nature of patience and tolerance from the recipient of the offence to the offender. It spells a world of "Live and let live" as opposed to a "live and let die" approach. From verse 29 of our text, Jesus instructs, "And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also." Good day.

PRAYER POINTS. START WITH PRAISE AND WORSHIP.
1. Magnify Him. He is the King of kings.
2. Pray for grace to practice more of love for your fellow humans.
3. Pray the Holy Spirit to make you more elastic and enduring.
4. Ask God to make you an instrument of peace in your neighbourhood.

EVENING SESSION: LUKE 6:29
In first-century Jewish culture, a backhanded slap to the right cheek was a severe insult designed to demean, insult, shame, or degrade, rather than cause severe bodily harm and physical pain. Turning the other cheek is a symbolic refusal to respond with vengeance, effectively stopping the downward spiral of abuse. designed to insult, shame, or degrade, rather than cause severe bodily harm. TOPIC: ​HE WENT ABOUT DOING GOOD
MORNING TEXT: MARK 1:38-39

MESSAGE
"Jesus replied, 'Let us go somewhere else - to the nearby towns - so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.' So he travelled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons." Jesus went about doing good. He did not confine His blessings to single localities. He sought to reach as many souls as possible which was not the in-thing. He did not wait for people to come to Him as many now insinuate but He carried the good news to their own doors. He thus taught us by example - that His Gospel is for all men, and not for any particular place or people. He taught us also, that we should make the most of our lives and opportunities, scatter the blessings of grace as widely as we can, and tell as many people as possible the good tidings of God's redeeming love. He wants His Church to keep on preaching the gospel to the "nearby towns" until there is not a town left which has not heard it. Jesus was in this world, for one thing - to show us a pattern of a true life. We should especially study His life - as the highest example of consecrated ministry. Here we have a glimpse of the way in which He sought to do good and reach out the blessings of His grace and love. Good day.

PRAYER POINTS: START WITH PRAISE AND WORSHIP
1. Worship His majesty.
2. Pray the Father to forgive you in areas you have done wickedly to others.
3. Pray to judiciously use convert opportunities to help mankind.
4. Pray to positively affect mankind as long as you live.

EVENING SESSION: MARK 1:38-39
From our text, Jesus, had the look and the movement of a man who knew He had not long to stay, and that He had a great deal to do - before He went away. He wanted to miss no town, to leave no person unvisited. There surely is much in this heart-stirring picture which we ought to imitate. We are here on earth - on an errand of blessing to men. We have something to give to the world, a message from the Father to deliver to His children, blessings to scatter upon needy lives. We should hasten on from one to another, with the gospel-gifts of love, help, and comfort - which our Master has given us to spread. Good night.
