Wisdom For Living
Life After The Cross 26
And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
Hebrews 5:9 KJV
Man was made in the image and likeness of God from the beginning and he had this vital connection with God that kept him spiritually alive. He had everything going smoothly for him in the garden of Eden.
Unfortunately, he was tempted by Satan to disobey God and he yielded to it and so he died spiritually and became disconnected from God. He couldn't relate with God as he used to, neither did he understand God.
Man became spiritually lost through his spiritual death or separation from God. He became subject to sin, sickness and all the evil things in this world. All he did to gain salvation before the cross failed him.
He offered sacrifices upon sacrifices, he made efforts upon efforts but he couldn't receive salvation from spiritual death and all it's consequences. The people of Israel had a very limited relationship with God.
Yet they couldn't access salvation because it was not available before the cross. Now the next reality of life after the cross is not just salvation but eternal salvation. This means permanent or everlasting salvation
Our opening scripture says and being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him. This scripture says Jesus became the author of eternal salvation. Hallelujah!
Jesus is not just the author of salvation but he is the author of eternal, permanent and everlasting salvation. This means once you receive the salvation he brought to us, you will never need salvation again.
The salvation we received in Jesus does not finish or end or expire or get destroyed. It cannot be lost, broken or taken away. If words mean anything, this is what eternal salvation means. It is everlasting salvation
It was designed to last forever, you don't need to be saved daily or monthly or even yearly or every now and then. Once you receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, you are permanently saved. Hallelujah.
Now, this does not mean once saved is always saved. We need to clarify it. We need to know that we received salvation through Jesus Christ. What we came to the altar to receive was actually Jesus.
But when we received him; who is also eternal life, the result was salvation or eternal salvation. So, salvation came by receiving Jesus Christ and as long as you have Jesus Christ, you are forever saved.
This is the meaning of eternal salvation. However, if someone decides to reject Jesus Christ and walk away from him, then he has rejected or walked away from salvation. We need to understand this.
You can't lose salvation by committing sin or making a mistake but you can throw away or reject your salvation by rejecting or walking away from Jesus. This is why it is a grievous sin to go back to the world.
As long as you stay in Christ and maintain your relationship with Jesus Christ, you're forever saved or permanently saved and no sin can unsave you or take away your salvation or make you lose your salvation
Again, this is no encouragement of sin or iniquity because it has its consequences but taking away salvation is not one of such consequences. Jesus Christ is the central issue or hub of salvation not sin.
Someone may also argue that Jesus is the author of eternal salvation to those who obey him thinking it's saying those who don't commit sin. Well, I'm yet to meet the person who would say he doesn't sin.
I don't know anyone who fits the bill yet. However, those who obey him does not mean those who don't commit sin. It means those who obey the truth of the gospel by accepting and receiving it.
When we accepted, received and believed the gospel, it was counted as obedience. It is called obedience of faith. So, those who obey him are those who received the truth of the gospel, that is referring to Believers.
The Bible also calls unbelievers sons of disobedience because they have not believed the gospel and this is the sin that the Holy Spirit convicts them of, this is the sin that takes people to the lake of fire.
Therefore Jesus is the author of eternal salvation to Believers. It is very important for us to understand scriptures and to interpret them correctly. You are secure in Christ and your hope is unshakable.
Blessings!
