Spiritual Authority (8)
Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself:
For I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof: wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.
For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
Luke 7:6-8 KJV
The way Jesus taught the Word was very different from the way the scribes and the pharisees taught the Word. The people said he taught the Word as one who had authority. Spiritual authority is perceptible.
Why function without authority when you can actually do what you do with authority. There are steps and principles that we can follow to gain spiritual authority. The next step to spiritual authority is submission.
Submission means being under authority. It is a law in the kingdom of God that you cannot be placed in authority until you are under authority yourself. So many people like to have authority and to be in authority
However, they don't like being under any authority. They fight, oppose and resist any authority that God places over them. They call submission slavery, foolishness and all sorts of names yet they want authority.
Until and unless you are under authority, you can't wield spiritual authority. You will lack the empathy, emotional intelligence and wisdom to manage those under you because you are not under any authority.
Our opening scripture captures the story of the centurion whose servant was very sick and he sent for Jesus to come and heal him. But as Jesus got close to his house, he sent more messengers to him.
He told these other messengers to tell Jesus not to come to his house but he should go ahead and speak the Word where he was and his servant will be well. Think about this statement from this man
He recognized that Jesus had authority and that he could speak from where he was and sickness will obey him. He knew that the words of Jesus carried power and where Jesus was did not really matter.
Jesus was impressed with the way this man demonstrated his faith in his power and authority. Now, how did this man come about all this? How come he had such a deep understanding of authority?
Well, the man said for I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. Wow!
You can see that because the centurion was under authority, he had authority and he also understood that Jesus was under authority, therefore he had authority too. Are you under authority? Think about it.
The degree of your submission will be the measure of your authority. The more you submit to authority, the more authority you will have and exercise. Begin by submitting to the Word of God and following it totally
Then submit to other human authorities set over you and then you will realize that you are having more power and influence with people. Spiritual authority is not for the rebellious but for the submissive. Blessings!
