What If Jesus Was Not Born?
Matt. 1:21 “And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shall call his name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their sin”
vs. 23 “Behold a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which being interpreted God with us”
The above scriptures mark the beginning of hope for man. And they also portray the eternal plan of God and His love to give meaning, colour, dignity and beauty to man’s battered destiny. But my reflection today is what would have been the state of man if Jesus was not born; if Jesus did not die and resurrect. It would have been catastrophic just as Apostle Paul encapsulate it “….that if Christ had not resurrected, we would have been of men most miserable”. The import of the season will therefore only make true meaning to us if we are able to ponder on the hopelessness of man if Jesus was not born. The implication would have been viz;
If Jesus had not been born, life would have been meaningless
If Jesus had not died and resurrected, life would have been hopeless.
The state of man would have been irredeemable. But the birth of Jesus, His death and resurrection defined the beginning of our eternal victory.
The reason for His birth is the season we celebrate today.
We can rejoice because a saviour worthy of our sacrifice was born.
We can rejoice because our lost peace has been restored.
We can rejoice because our battered dignity has been redeemed.
We can rejoice because the love of God we once lost is freely accessible again because of the birth of Christ our saviour.
We can rejoice because Jesus chose to be born into our sinful world to secure our eternal destiny in God.
As we celebrate the SEASON, let us also reflect on the REASON that made the season possible.
May the joy that comes with Christmas be with us all now and forever.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New year in advance!
Peace be unto you all!!! Pst. Peter Ifedapo Friday
