I once heard someone say this a few years ago and I just shook my head because I knew that this was the DUNNING-KRUGER EFFECT at work
The DunningâKruger effect at its core describes a dangerous reality: people who lack competence often overestimate their understanding, while those who are truly skilled tend to walk with a deeper awareness of their limitations. In ministry, this plays out in subtle but devastating ways.
A man hears God once and suddenly assumes he has mastered the voice of God.
A preacher gains a little revelation and begins to speak with the authority of one who has exhausted truth.
A leader builds a small following and starts to believe he has nothing left to learn.
This is how error is born , not always from rebellion, but from OVERCONFIDENCE
The tragedy of the DunningâKruger effect in ministry is that it disguises immaturity as authority.
It rewards noise over depth and confidence over consecration.
And in a generation where platforms are easily accessible, it is possible to have influence without formation.
But ministry was never designed to be sustained by charisma alone. It is built on weight-

DOCTRINAL WEIGHT
MENTAL WEIGHT
& THE WEIGHT OF SELF DEVELOPMENT
Self-development is not optional for a minister, it is a sacred responsibility.
To invest in yourself is not pride; it is stewardship.
A minister must be committed to growth in three dimensions.
First, SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT; deepening intimacy with God beyond public performance.
Second, INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT; Studying scripture and relevant books / materials with discipline to broaden understanding, worldview and I.Q
Third, PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT; Building character, emotional intelligence, ethics, etiquette and integrity,
Because the truth is, your gift can open doors, but only your development can sustain you there.
When you look at the top ministers in the country and think the only difference between you and them is just GRACE , you'll be making a terrible mistake, what you don't see is the years of consistency and commitment to personal development that has made them become the version of themselves that everyone is celebrating
There is a humility required to grow, you must admit that theres yet something that you don't know because if you did then you would be where they are
Humility is willingness to sit under authority, to be corrected, to admit âI donât know.â And that humility is the antidote to the DunningâKruger effect.
The most dangerous minister is not the one who is ignorant, but the one who is ignorant and unaware.
The safest minister is not the one who knows everything but the one who knows enough to keep learning.
In this generation, God is not just raising voices, He is raising vessels. Men and women who are not only anointed, but also prepared. Not only passionate, but also grounded in truth.
So the question is not, âAre you called?â
The real question is, âAre you growing?â
Because calling without development is a burden waiting to collapse.
