EDO STATE COUNCIL FOR ISLAMIC AFFAIRS CONDEMNS DIVISIVE REMARKS BY PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP

The Edo State Council for Islamic Affairs (EDSCIA) has expressed deep concern and strong condemnation over the recent outburst credited to President, Donald Trump, alleging that killings in Nigeria are directed solely against Christians.

The Council views such a statement as not only misleading but also capable of deepening existing fault lines and sowing unnecessary discord among peace-loving Nigerians. The unfortunate reality, as Nigerians know too well, is that both Muslims and Christians have been victims of violent attacks in various parts of the country. These tragedies cut across faith and ethnicity, affecting innocent citizens irrespective of their religious affiliation.

The Council therefore cautions against any attempt—by local or foreign actors—to exploit Nigeria’s internal challenges for political or economic advantage through the dangerous tactics of divide and rule. Nigeria’s unity, stability, and social harmony must never be sacrificed for propaganda or external interests.

EDSCIA reaffirms that religious leaders and institutions in Nigeria have continued to work together to promote peace, tolerance, and understanding among all faiths. The Council calls on the Federal Government, international partners, and the media to rely on verified facts and to avoid narratives that can inflame tension or undermine national cohesion.

The Edo State Council for Islamic Affairs further urges Nigerians to remain vigilant, united, and prayerful, while rejecting any message—no matter the source—that seeks to pit one religion against another. Nigeria’s strength lies in her diversity and the shared values of justice, compassion, and peaceful coexistence.
