Topic: Making your marriage heaven on earth - Pt 4

Colossians 3:9 - Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

Trust is one of the foundation stones of marriage, once it is lost, the marriage is done for. You cannot be genuinely happy in a marriage where secrets are kept. The moment what you've been hiding is discovered, the Trust is gone. A marriage built on lies and deception will hardly last a lifetime.

You and your spouse must be on same page always. Communication is key, you must regularly update each other about what's going on in your life. For example, if a lady gets my attention to the extent that I feel tempted, I'll tell my wife straight up. Just telling her alone has solved my problem ninety percent. I ask her to pray for me and have her eyes on me and it has always worked.

You must learn to get each other's consent before you do things and if you forget to get their consent, update them as quickly as possible, a text, a call, a voice message etc. When people try to be cunning and crafty, weaving different lies, they destroy the very foundation that's supposed to uphold their marriage.

Our text tells us to avoid lying to each other, this is especially important in marriage. Whatever is built on lies has no foundation. Ephesians 4:25 says "Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another".

From my little experience in life, I have seen that many people don't really want a happy marriage because they will not commit to the demands. This is foundation stuff, sincerity is key.

I commit myself to be sincere and truthful to my spouse. Hallelujah

2. Precious Father, I say thank you for everything you've done in my life

Amos 3:3 - Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

When you genuinely love someone, you want the person to enjoy same privileges as you. I've been a Pastor for over three decades, I smile when I see young men trying to have the advantage in marriage. He buys and builds all properties in his own name, just in case there's problem tomorrow. He doesn't know that the woman is also smart, she has secret savings and finds a way to steal the heart of the children. It will not be long, the cracks in that marriage will become visible.

Why can't husband and wife sincerely love each other? I am not talking about the husband providing and the woman taking good care of the house and kids, that's not love, that's each of you taking responsibility. Love is beyond spending money or taking care of the kids, love begins with sincerity of heart. You want the best for yourself and you also want the best for your spouse.

Why can't husband and wife sit down and sincerely discuss and pour out their heart to each other? Why the secrecy and self interest. You cannot have real progress in your marriage if there's no sincerity and agreement. I am not talking about one person doing the talking and trying to force his or her own idea down the other's throat. I am talking about you being sincerely interested in the other's dreams and welfare.

Where there's no sincerity, there cannot be any genuine agreement and therefore, the two cannot walk together. Husband and wife, it's time to talk, not argue, talk!

Our Confession:
I am sincerely interested in the welfare and fulfilment of my partner. Hallelujah

Ephesians 5:28 - So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

Many people want a happy marriage but many are not committed to being the kind of person that will make a happy marriage possible. Many women treat their husbands the way they will not want their daughters in inlaw to treat their sons. Many men treat their wives the way they will not want their son in laws to treat their daughters. Some men basically want a house maid for a wife and some women want their husbands to be a cash machine.

Go and observe divorce proceedings in court, it's all about self. The man if fighting for his interests and same for the woman and in so doing, they tear their marriage apart. Each one is trying to justify his or her selfish position. What do you think will happen if we stopped focusing on what we want to get and rather focus on what we want to give in marriage? It will be a love competition, your marriage will be heaven on earth.

Someone will say to me, "it's not that simple, you don't know my husband, he's very wicked". What you're indirectly saying is that your husband is selfish, he doesn't care about your feelings and is not kind to you. When you have one selfish person in a marriage, the marriage is standing on one leg, it will be unstable. When you have two selfish and self absorbed people in a union, the marriage has no legs, it will simply collapse. When you have two selfless people in a marriage, you have heaven on earth. The reason for most of the evil taking place in society and even in marriages, can be traced to selfish interests. Jesus told us that the bible is summarized in these words, "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets" Matthew 7:12. Simply treat people the way you will like them to treat you.

I laugh when some men say "I am a proper African man, I have the right to date, marry and have s*x with as many unmarried women I want", but you don't want don't want your wife to have access to other men. This kind of traditional thinking is rooted in pure selfishness.

If you would follow the principle of Christ, you will enjoy marriage as God intended, but humanity in our craftiness, have invented all kinds of traditions that is based on pure selfish interest. Kill selfishness in marriage and you have stopped the devil.

I have seen many selfish women in marriage, who only respect their husbands for what they can provide. Once the money reduces, their respect diminishes. Many married women want their husbands to spend money on their family and will encourage the husband to neglect his own family. It's all about selfishness.

Starting from today, decide that whatever is good enough for you, is also good enough for your partner and you will see how the peace of God will flood your home.

Topic: Good Soldiers of Christ - Pt 2

Matthew 8:9 - For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.

If you're born again, you are a member of God's army. You have left civilian life behind, you now live the kingdom life. A life committed to the spread and defense of the gospel of Christ. You are a soldier of Jesus Christ.

Soldiers have one distinct characteristic, they're highly disciplined. You don't become disciplined by chance, it comes by training. As a committed soldier, you don't do as you like or behave as you feel, you do what you are commanded, regardless of how you feel.

This disciplined life of a soldier comes from rigorous training. So my question to you this morning is, have you been trained in the things concerning the kingdom of God? If you've not been trained, you need to make yourself available for training in the kingdom. .

We're not like the world who are enslaved by their lusts and desires. We're Soldiers that exercise control over our desires and emotions and obey the command of our king. Our lives are governed by the authority of the word of God. We don't talk or act carelessly, we have been disciplined by the word of God.

Spiritual things are not handled carelessly, there are laws and principles guiding our conduct. We're under the authority of our King and we do as he commands. Our joy in life is connected to the expansion and the defense of the gospel of Christ.

Our Confession:
I am a soldier in the Lords Army, I am committed to the spread and the defense of the gospel of Christ. Hallelujah

Prayer Declarations:
1. Thank you Father for this beautiful Sunday
2. I worship you my Father and my king
3. I declare that all things are working out for my good
4. I declare that the fire of revival is burning bright in our nation
5. Thank you Father because my day is blessed
