PAYING FOR FREEDOM, FINANCING THE NEXT ABDUCTION?
Every bag of ransom money tells two stories; a family buying freedom and an armed group financing its next operation.
When kidnapping becomes a reliable source of income, ransom payments don't just end a crisis they can create incentives for the next abduction. More money means more recruits, more weapons, greater mobility and a stronger criminal network.
Looking at this cash, one have to asked himself: if kidnapping keeps paying, what reason do bandits have to stop?
While the desperation of families is understandable, a strategy built around ransom payments is ultimately unsustainable. So long as kidnapping remains profitable, the cycle of abduction, extortion and violence will continue. Lasting security will come not from financing criminal groups, but from dismantling their networks, cutting off their sources of income and ensuring that crime no longer pays.
