Are You Sure?
*Bible verse: Exodus 23:1*
"You shall not bear a false report, do not join your hand with a wicked man to be a malicious witness".

The story is told of Socrates that one day an acquaintance ran up to him excitedly and said, "Socrates, do you know what I just heard about Diogenes?"

"Wait a moment," Socrates replied, "Before you tell me I'd like you to answer these questions.

The first question is "Have you made sure that what you are about to tell me is true?"
"No," the man said,

"Actually I just heard about it."

The second question is, " What you are about to tell me about Diogenes, is it something good?"
"No, on the contrary..."

Socrates continued, "You want to tell me something about Diogenes that may be bad, even though you're not certain it's true?"
The man became a little embarrassed.

Socrates continued, The third is,
"What you want to tell me about Diogenes is it useful to me?"
"No, not really."

"Well," concluded Socrates, "If what you want to tell me is neither True nor Good nor even useful, why tell it to me or anyone at all?"

If everyone will follow this, so many rumours will not be spread.

Learn to say only that which you are sure of.
