PRAISEWORTHY FAMILY DIGEST
14th August
Topic: Woe to Idle People in Zion
Text: Amos 6:1 "Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria..
Memory Verse: "Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord." Romans 12:11 (KJV)
God has never called His children to a life of spiritual laziness. In Amos 6:1, the prophet pronounced a "woe" upon those who were comfortable and complacent in Zion while God's work was neglected. They enjoyed the privileges of God's house but refused the responsibilities of His Kingdom.
Many believers today attend church regularly but contribute little to the advancement of God's work. They are spectators rather than labourers, consumers rather than contributors. God desires every believer to be actively involved in building His Kingdom according to the gifts and opportunities He has received.
The Church flourishes when every member serves faithfully. Whether through evangelism, prayer, giving, worship, ushering, teaching, visitation, media, cleaning, or encouraging others, every service rendered with a sincere heart is precious before God. Idleness in God's house robs the Church of strength and deprives the believer of eternal rewards.
Jesus declared that His Father is always at work, and He Himself was committed to doing the Father's will (John 5:17). Likewise, believers must be diligent workers, redeeming the time because the days are evil (Ephesians 5:15–16). The night is coming when no one can work (John 9:4).
Do not wait to be persuaded or compelled before serving. Let your love for Christ motivate you to labour faithfully. Those who serve God diligently will never labour in vain, for He is faithful to reward every act of service.
Instructive Points
• Every believer has a place and a responsibility in God's Kingdom (1 Corinthians 12:4–7).
• Spiritual complacency leads to fruitlessness and loss of eternal rewards (Matthew 25:26–30).
• Faithful service is an expression of genuine love for Christ (John 21:15–17).
• God blesses and honours those who labour faithfully in His vineyard (1 Corinthians 15:58).
• The time to serve God is now; tomorrow is not guaranteed (Ecclesiastes 9:10).
Prayer: Heavenly Father, deliver me from every spirit of laziness and complacency. Fill me with zeal for Your Kingdom and make me a faithful labourer in Your vineyard. Help me to serve You wholeheartedly with my gifts, time, and resources until You return. Let my life bear lasting fruit for Your glory, in Jesus' name. Amen.
