TOPIC: CHARACTER THAT MAKES A YOUTH EFFECTIVE AND PRODUCTIVE IN CHURCH
Text: Proverbs 22:29
> "Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
youths, in this generation everyone wants to be gifted, anointed, and visible. But God is not just looking for gifted hands, He is looking for a stable character.
Your talent can take you to the platform, but only your character will keep you there.
The church is not looking for perfect people, but for productive people - youths who can be trusted, corrected, and depended on.
Productivity in church does not begin with microphone or skill. It begins with character.
*1. DILIGENCE - Be Available and Dependable*
A diligent youth does not serve only when watched. He serves because he has understood responsibility.
- Proverbs 12:24 "The hand of the diligent shall bear rule..."
- Proverbs 10:4 "The hand of the diligent maketh rich."
Many youths are available but not dependable.
To be dependable means if I give you the key, the sound, the ushering, the media - I can sleep in peace.
Diligence is not doing big things, it is doing small things with seriousness. If you clean the chairs well, God can trust you with the crowd.
Joseph in Potiphar's house. He was a slave but diligent, and that diligence brought him to rulership.
This week, don't wait to be called. Come 30 minutes early. Ask "What can I help with today?" Fill a gap.
*2. FAITHFULNESS - Be Consistent, Not Convenient*
God is not moved by your energy on Sunday alone. He checks your consistency from Wednesday to Sunday.
- Proverbs 28:20 "A faithful man shall abound with blessings"
- Luke 16:10 "He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much"
Many youths start strong in January and disappear by March. Faithfulness means you are still there when the excitement is gone. God does not reward starters, He rewards finishers.
If you are faithful in opening church, in follow-up, - God is preparing you for much more.
Make up your mind: "For the next 90 days, I will not miss my department without tangible reason." Let your leader be sure of you.
*3. HUMILITY - Be Teachable*
This is where many talented youths fail. You sing well, you preach well, but you cannot be corrected.
- Proverbs 15:31-32 "The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise"
- Proverbs 11:2 "With the lowly is wisdom"
Humility is not pretending you don't know. Humility is knowing you can still learn. When your pastor corrects you, they are not hating you - they are making you.
A youth who argues with every correction will soon become isolated. The anointing flows to the humble.
When next you are corrected, don't explain, don't defend. Just say "Thank you sir/ma, I will adjust." Write it down and work on it.
*4. INTEGRITY - Let Your Private Life Match Your Public Service*
You cannot be an usher on Sunday and a bully in school. You cannot be a choir member and be known for double life on WhatsApp.
- Proverbs 10:9 "He that walketh uprightly walketh surely"
- Proverbs 20:11 "Even a child is known by his doings..."
Integrity is who you are when no one is watching. Your Instagram, your chat, your relationship - does it support what you do in church?
The youths that last are not just anointed, they are authentic.
Audit your life this week. If someone follows you for 24 hours outside church, will they still respect your service in church? Adjust where needed.
*5. COMMITMENT - Don't Serve Based On Mood*
Productive youths don't serve because they feel like it. They serve because they understand they are serving God.
- Proverbs 16:3 "Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established"
- Colossians 3:23 "Whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord"
Mood-based service is a trap. Today you are excited, tomorrow you are offended. Commitment says: "Even when I am not celebrated, I will still serve."
God is watching your heart, not just your hands.
Commit to one assignment in church for the next 6 months and give it your best, even when no one claps for you.
*6. WISDOM - Know How To Relate With People*
Talent without manners is a disaster. Some youths lost their place not because they sinned, but because they lacked wisdom in talking.
- Proverbs 15:1 "A soft answer turneth away wrath"
- Proverbs 17:9 "He that covereth a transgression seeketh love"
- Proverbs 18:21 "Death and life are in the power of the tongue"
Don't gossip about your leader. Don't bring anger to the department. Learn to say "please", "thank you", "I am sorry". Learn to work as a team.
This week, practice: No gossip, no harsh reply, no silent malice. If you have issue with someone, go to them directly in love.
*7. INITIATIVE - Don't Always Wait To Be Told*
The most productive youths are not those who always ask "What should I do?" but those who say "I saw this need, can I handle it?"
- Proverbs 6:6-8 "Go to the ant... provideth her meat in the summer"
- Proverbs 14:23 "In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury"
Don't just sit in church and complain. See a dirty chair - clean it. See a visitor standing - welcome them. See a faulty mic - report it. The ant has no supervisor yet it works.
Every service, solve one problem without being told. That is how leaders are noticed.
A church does not just need talented youths who can sing.
We need *faithful youths* who will stay.
We need *disciplined youths* who have self-control.
We need *teachable youths* who can be corrected.
We need *responsible youths* who own the work.
We need *spiritually minded youths* who pray.
