MODESTY, LEADERSHIP, AND TEAMWORK
Introduction
Many people desire leadership, but few understand that great leadership begins with modesty and is sustained through teamwork.
- No leader succeeds alone, and no team functions effectively without humility.
- Modesty makes leadership effective. Leadership provides direction. Teamwork produces results.
- A humble leader inspires trust. A good leader unites people. A united team accomplishes great things.
Philippians 2:2 "Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind."
- When modesty, leadership, and teamwork work together, ministries grow, workers flourish, and God is glorified.
The greatest leaders in Scripture were men and women who recognized that their success came from God and who valued the contributions of others.
Proverbs 11:2 "When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom."
Ecclesiastes 4:9 "Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour."
KEY NOTE FOR AN EFFECTIVE CHURCH WORKERS AND BUSINESS OWNERS
1. MODESTY: THE FOUNDATION OF EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP
Modesty is humility in character, speech, conduct, and appearance. It is having a correct view of yourself before God and others.
WHY MODESTY MATTERS:
A. God Honors the Humble
James 4:6 "God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble."
A proud worker eventually loses divine grace, while a humble worker continues to receive God's help.
B. Modesty Makes People Comfortable Around You
Philippians 2:3 "Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves."
People willingly follow leaders who respect and value them.
C. Modesty Protects Leaders from Destruction
Proverbs 16:18 "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall."
Many gifted people have fallen because pride replaced humility.
2. LEADERSHIP: INFLUENCE THROUGH SERVICE
Leadership is not position; leadership is influence and responsibility.
A. Leadership Is Service
Mark 10:43-45 "Whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister..."
The greatest leaders are servants.
B. Leadership Is Example
1 Timothy 4:12 "Be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity."
Workers learn more from what leaders do than from what leaders say.
C. Leadership Requires Integrity
Proverbs 20:7 "The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him."
Character is the true test of leadership.
3. TEAMWORK: THE SECRET OF GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENTS
God never designed people to work alone.
A. Teamwork Multiplies Results
Ecclesiastes 4:9 "Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour."
B. Teamwork Brings Strength
Ecclesiastes 4:12 "And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken."
C. Teamwork Reflects the Body of Christ
1 Corinthians 12:27 "Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular."
Every member has a role.
ENEMIES OF TEAMWORK
1. Pride
Proverbs 13:10 "Only by pride cometh contention..."
2. Jealousy
James 3:16 "For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work."
3. Competition Within the Team
We are called to complement one another, not compete against one another.
4. Lack of Communication
Misunderstanding grows where communication is absent.
PRACTICAL LESSONS FOR MINISTERS AND WORKERS
- Serve faithfully regardless of your title.
- Celebrate the success of others.
- Learn to submit to authority.
