TITLE: HOW TO DEAL WITH PRIDE
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE
“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” — Proverbs 16:18
MESSAGE
We live in a generation where people are taught to “show off,” “prove yourself,” and “make everybody know your worth.”
Social media has made pride look normal.
People now compete over:
followers,
money,
beauty,
influence,
achievements,
lifestyle,
and attention.
Many people no longer want God to be seen; they want themselves to be seen.
But hear this carefully: Pride is dangerous because it silently removes God from the center of a man’s life.
WHAT IS PRIDE?
Pride is an attitude where a person begins to exalt himself above God, above others, or above correction.
Pride says:
“I know everything.”
“Nobody can correct me.”
“I don’t need help.”
“I made myself successful.”
“I am better than others.”
Pride is not only loud talking.
Sometimes pride is hidden:
refusing correction,
inability to apologize,
looking down on people,
always wanting attention,
pretending to be what you are not,
or taking glory that belongs to God.
The root of pride is self-exaltation.
WHY IS PRIDE DANGEROUS?
1. Pride fights against God
The Bible says:
“God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” — James 4:6
Imagine God Himself resisting a man.
A proud man may have talent, but grace will leave him.
Many people today have:
gifts without character,
visibility without humility,
influence without brokenness.
That is why many rise fast and crash suddenly.
2. Pride was what destroyed Lucifer
Lucifer was beautiful, gifted, and powerful, but pride corrupted him.
He wanted the glory that belongs to God alone.
Pride can make a man forget that everything he has came from God.
3. Pride destroys relationships
Pride makes people difficult to:
teach,
lead,
correct,
love,
and help.
A proud person always wants to win arguments instead of winning souls.
HOW TO DEAL WITH PRIDE
1. Keep Christ at the center
The Christian life is not self-centered; it is Christ-centered.
This generation teaches:
“Believe in yourself.” But the Kingdom says:
“Die to yourself and follow Christ.”
Jesus is our perfect example of humility.
“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 2:5
Even though Jesus was powerful, He still served people.
Real greatness in God’s Kingdom is not pride; it is servanthood.
2. Accept correction
One major sign of maturity is the ability to receive correction without anger.
Anybody who cannot be corrected cannot grow.
The moment you hate correction, pride has already entered your heart.
3. Remember that everything you have came from God
Your intelligence, your beauty, your opportunities, your money, your connections, your ministry, your success — all came by God’s mercy.
Without God, man is nothing.
When you remember this, humility will naturally grow in you.
4. Serve people genuinely
Pride always wants to be served.
Humility serves others.
Jesus washed the feet of His disciples.
The King of kings became a servant.
A generation obsessed with status needs to learn servanthood again.
5. Pray for a broken and humble heart
Humility is not weakness.
Humility is strength under God’s control.
A humble man can go far because grace rests upon him.
ACTION PLAN
Ask God to reveal every hidden pride in your heart.
Stop comparing yourself with others.
Learn to say “I am sorry” when wrong.
Appreciate people instead of competing with them.
Spend time studying the humility of Jesus Christ.
PRAYER POINTS
Father, remove every seed of pride from my life in Jesus’ name.
MEMORY VERSE
“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” — James 4:10
