*Study 150 (Friday 5th June, 2026)*
*Title:* My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?
*Main Text & Bible reading:* Psalms chapter 22
*Overview of the study:* the title of the Psalm is very popular. It was the prayer (and agony) of Jesus when he was being crucified.

> _“And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Matt. 22:47)_

Jesus said the words when he was on the most critical and terrible situation of his earthly life. It is true that Jesus crucifixion and death was the plan of God for the redemption of mankind. However, the situation was very painful. And to make the matter worse, it looked like God forsook Jesus at that point in time. And truly, God looked away from Jesus.

> 1. How is your situation today? thinking nobody is around you to help, encourage and comfort? Do you feel that your prayers are not been answered, or that God has forsaken you? Jesus also passed through the same situation. And since Jesus endured it, you could also endure the situations and keep trusting God.

> 2. The same God that forsook Jesus on the Calvary also raised Jesus up from the grave. The glory of resurrection was far greater than the pains of the crucifixion. There is also a glory ahead of you. The pain will soon be over, and you will see the glory of God.

> _Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? (Jn 11:40)_

> 3. One thing about Psalm 22 is that it showed that the words of the book of Psalms were divinely inspired (come from God). The Matthew chapter 22 verse 47 that was quoted by Jesus was taken from the Psalms of David.

> _“ *My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?* why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?” (Ps. 22:1)_

> 4. Another statement made by Jesus on the cross was also written in this book of Psalm (Psalm 22), long before it happened.

> _“They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture” (Ps. 22:18)._

> _“And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots” (Mat. 27:35)._

The bible is prophetic and God inspired. Psalm chapter 22 verses 1 and 18 should further boost our trust in the Bible as divine words of God. It should also help us to hold unto God’s words no matter the delay and present situation, trusting that God who has spoken will surely fulfil His words.

The psalmist still prayed to God despite his lamentation verse 1 of chapter 22.
> _“But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me. Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog. Save me from the lion's mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns” (Ps. 22:19-21)_

*Commitment:* I trust God’s words in the Bible and not give up.

*Question 1:* Do you feel God has forsaken you like Jesus?

*Prayer 1:* Pray that God will show Himself in your situations.
