SERMON SERIES: THE EARTH IS THE LORD’S
PART 1
Title: From Emptiness to Divine Order
Text: Psalm 24:1–6; Genesis 1:1–3

Beloved in the Lord,
Let's begin with the foundational declaration:
“The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” (Psalm 24:1)
This Psalm is not a ritual alone, it is a spiritual weapon. It cleanses the atmosphere, silences opposing forces, and establishes God’s authority over every gathering and every life.
1. The Reality of Divine Ownership
Psalm 24 makes it clear: God owns everything. Verse 2 says:
“For He hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.”
This means:
•Your life is not accidental
•Your situation is not beyond God
•Your destiny is under divine control
No power can override the One who owns the earth.
2. The Mystery of Emptiness (Genesis 1:2)
“And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep…”
Before beauty, there was barrenness. Before fullness, there was emptiness.
This reveals a spiritual pattern:
•Emptiness is often the starting point of divine intervention
•Disorder precedes divine arrangement
•Darkness is a platform for God’s light
Many people today are in a Genesis 1:2 condition:
•Emotional emptiness
•Spiritual dryness
•Lack of direction
But that is not the end of the story.
3. The Power of God’s Word
“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” (Genesis 1:3)
God did not negotiate with darkness—He spoke.
Key insight:
•God’s Word transforms emptiness into structure
•God’s voice brings clarity where there is confusion
If God speaks into your situation, transformation is inevitable.
4. God Fills the Empty Vessel
“Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.” (Psalm 81:10)
God does not fill pride, self-sufficiency, or spiritual complacency. He fills:
•The hungry
•The humble
•The expectant
Your emptiness is not a curse—it is an invitation.
5. Conditions for Accessing God’s Presence
Psalm 24:3–4 asks:
“Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord?… He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart.”
To move from emptiness to divine encounter:
•Live in holiness
•Maintain purity of heart
•Reject iniquity
God’s fullness does not dwell in a polluted vessel.
Conclusion (Part 1)
Emptiness is not your final state. Just as God transformed the formless earth, He can transform your life.
But transformation begins when:
•You acknowledge His ownership
•You respond to His Word
•You prepare yourself for His presence
Prayer
O Lord, Creator of heaven and earth, every emptiness in our lives—speak into it. Let there be light where there is darkness. Prepare us as vessels fit for Your fullness. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Topic: A Sacrifice Like No Other

Fathers of faith have made remarkable sacrifices, but none compare to Jesus' ultimate act of love. Let's explore some biblical examples:

- *Abraham's willingness to sacrifice Isaac* (Genesis 22:1-19): A test of faith, Abraham was ready to offer his only son, symbolizing trust in God's promise.
- *Jephta's sacrifice of his daughter* (Judges 11:29-40): A rash vow led to the sacrifice of his child, highlighting the consequences of impulsive decisions.
- *Isaac's submission to sacrifice* (Genesis 22:1-19): A foreshadow of Jesus' own submission to God's will.
- *The Passover lamb* (Exodus 12:1-14): A symbol of deliverance, pointing to Jesus as the ultimate Lamb of God.

However, these sacrifices pale in comparison to Jesus' act:

- *Jesus' sacrifice on the cross* (John 3:16, Romans 5:8): The ultimate expression of God's love, where Jesus took the punishment for humanity's sins.
- *Purpose of Jesus' coming*: To save humanity from sin (John 3:17, Luke 19:10).
- *Fulfillment of His assignment*: Jesus completed the work given by His Father (John 17:4, 19:30).
- *Significance of His resurrection*:
- Victory over death and sin (1 Corinthians 15:55-57).
- Assurance of eternal life (John 11:25-26).
- Empowerment for believers (Ephesians 1:19-20).

As we reflect on Jesus' ultimate sacrifice, we're reminded that His love, submission, and sacrifice are more than just historical events – they're a call to action. As Christians, we're urged to live by Jesus' example, demonstrating love, humility, and willingness to sacrifice for others.

Don't let Jesus' death be in vain; let it transform your life. Allow His resurrection power to guide you in:
- Loving unconditionally
- Submitting to God's will
- Sacrificing for the greater good

Let's remember Paul's words: "I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me" (Galatians 2:20, NIV).

May our lives honour Jesus' sacrifice, and may His resurrection power inspire us to live differently. Amen.

Programme: Palm Sunday 2026
Topic: Hosanna in the Highest
Preacher: Aremolekun

On this special occasion of Palm Sunday celebration, marking the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, Hosanna truly is our song. Our readings are Isaiah 59:12-end and Luke 19:29-40.

Isaiah 59:12 says, "For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities, we know them." But the prophet also declares God's promise to bring salvation (Isaiah 59:16-20), echoing the hope of Romans 3:21-26.

In Luke 19, Jesus enters Jerusalem, fulfilling Zechariah 9:9, riding on a c**t, a symbol of humility and peace. The crowd praises, "Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!" (Luke 19:38), echoing Psalm 118:26, a psalm of deliverance.

"Hosanna!" – a cry of salvation, from Psalm 118:25, "Save us, we pray!" The crowd recognizes Jesus as Messiah, fulfilling prophecy (Matthew 21:9, Mark 11:9-10, John 12:13).

Jesus' entry shows us His mission: to bring salvation, not through military might, but through humility and sacrifice (Philippians 2:6-8). He weeps over Jerusalem (Luke 19:41-44), showing His heart for those who don't recognize Him (Matthew 23:37).

Like the crowd, we shout "Hosanna!" – acknowledging Jesus as King (Revelation 19:6-8). Let us examine our hearts: Are we truly surrendered to Him?

May we, like the prophet, confess our sins and receive God's salvation. May we, like the crowd, praise Him with all our being. Amen.

SECOND SUNDAY IN LENT 2026
Sermon Topic: The C&S Is a Spiritually Conservative Church: Avoid Wrong Teachings (Part 1)

1. Christ Did Not Abolish Divine Order
Brethren, our Lord Jesus Christ declared in Gospel of Matthew 5:18 that He did not come to abolish the Law and the Prophets, but to fulfil them. Christianity is fulfilment, not destruction. The New Covenant does not discard divine patterns; it perfects them.
Therefore, a church that claims fidelity to Christ must honour biblical structure, spiritual discipline, and sound doctrine.

2. The Cherubim & Seraphim Heritage
The Cherubim and Seraphim is a spiritually conservative movement. We are not governed by emotional impulses or generational reinterpretations. We are guided by divine revelation and the vision entrusted to our founder, Moses Orimolade Tunolase.
Saint Orimolade was nurtured within the Church Missionary Society tradition of the Anglican Communion. He functioned as an itinerant preacher and established congregations across present-day Kogi, Delta, Ondo, and Osun States. When he arrived in Lagos in July 1924, he was received within the Anglican fold.
Certain structured spiritual disciplines, including the observance of the 40-day Lenten season, were consistent with the biblical and liturgical exposure he had received. These were not adopted as empty rituals but retained because they align with Scripture.

3. Biblical Foundation for Congregational Fasting
The claim that fasting must only be private is unsustainable when weighed against Scripture.
(a) Prophetic Mandate
In Book of Joel 2:15–16, the prophet commanded: “Blow the trumpet in Zion, declare a holy fast, call a sacred assembly.”
This involved the entire covenant community — elders, children, leaders.
(b) Royal Declarations
King Jehoshaphat proclaimed a nationwide fast during national crisis (Second Book of Chronicles 20:3).
The king of Nineveh declared a compulsory fast after Jonah’s warning (Book of Jonah 3:5–7).
(c) Leadership-Directed Fasts
Ezra proclaimed a public fast at the river Ahava (Book of Ezra 8:21).
Esther commanded collective fasting before approaching the king (Book of Esther 4:16).
These are not isolated incidents. They establish that congregational fasting is biblically valid and divinely sanctioned.

4. Matthew 6: Motive, Not Method
In Gospel of Matthew 6:16–18, Jesus condemned hypocritical fasting done for public applause. He addressed the motive of the heart, not the structure of fasting.
He did not forbid corporate fasting; He forbade ostentation.
The problem is pride — not participation.

Closing Charge (Sunday One)
The C&S must not abandon biblical discipline because of modern discomfort. Corporate fasting stands on scriptural authority. Our heritage is not accidental; it is providential.
Next Sunday, we shall examine the theological significance of the number forty and the responsibility of preserving doctrine without compromise.
