St. Anne's Church Akure

St. Anne's Church Akure The mission of St. St. Anne’s Anglican Church is an intergenerational congregation of committed Christians who come from many different walks of life.

Anne’s Anglican Church is to:
+ Proclaim the Good News of Jesus
+ Go out and make disciples
+ Meet Him through the Sacraments
+ Show His love to those in need
+ Care for our church family as He cares for us. Although St. Anne’s is Anglican in faith and tradition, its members have come from various religious backgrounds. Anne’s has steadily grown since its founding in 1994. Worship is still the to

p priority, and in addition to 7: 00 am. and 10: 00 a.m. Sunday worship, we offer a Wednesday evening prayer meeting, Thursday Bible study / Evangelism at 5:00 pm. Our congregation deeply values time together outside of Sunday worship settings with many fellowship activities throughout the week, and expanded evangelical efforts and Bible studies . When asked about what they love about St. Anne’s, long-time members will mention our commitment to Scripture, godly leadership, our beautiful and reverent traditional Anglican liturgy, and many other things. What sets us apart, however, is our loving congregation that welcomes, cares for, and treats everyone like family from the very first visit.

Thursday August 13
Last week we prayed about the Cathedral massacre in the Diocese of Athooch, Jonglei State, South Sudan. The eastern part of Jonglei State is experiencing desperate flooding. It is reported that at least 150,000 people have been displaced from their homes due to heavy flooding. The UK charity Anglican International Development (AID) already support the Jonglei Health Sciences Institute and they are seeking to raise money to provide life-saving emergency support. Pray for the people of Jonglei State, distressed by violence and natural disasters. Pray for the work of AID.

Saturday August 1
Nigeria. Pray for an increase in international concern and action about the murder of Christians in North-East Nigeria. Pray that it may be understood that these are not farming disputes but targeted murders of Christians. In the US there is a proposal to the US government that could be very helpful for our Christian brothers and sisters in Nigeria. Pray that the US government would act and appoint a Special Envoy for Nigeria and that other countries would also take action.

What gives Anglicanism its integrity? In this article, Charles Raven shows that this is ultimately a question of where we look for authority.

'"We, together with many other faithful Anglicans throughout the world, believe the doctrinal foundation of Anglicanism, which defines our core identity as Anglicans, is expressed in these words: The doctrine of the Church is grounded in the Holy Scriptures and in such teachings of the ancient Fathers and Councils of the Church as are agreeable to the said Scriptures. In particular, such doctrine is to be found in the Thirty-nine Articles of Religion, the Book of Common Prayer and the Ordinal. We intend to remain faithful to this standard, and we call on others in the Communion to reaffirm and return to it." - Jerusalem Statement & Declaration 2008

Here we have the real source of the integrity of Anglicanism in an unabashed statement of what defines Anglican identity. Holy Scripture is the ground and standard of all authority in the Church and only when it occupies this role can the Church be washed clean. If it is relegated to just one source of ‘dispersed authority’ we are likely to be left with whitewash.'

Monday July 13
Governments and civic leaders around the world have been faced with a fast changing and unprecedented pandemic situation. The Collect below helps us to pray for our leaders.
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, send down on those who hold public office, especially those working to stop the spread of the Coronavirus, the spirit of wisdom, charity, and justice; that with steadfast purpose they may faithfully serve in their offices to promote the well being of all people; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
ACNA, Book of Common Prayer (2019)

Sunday July 12
Patricia Neves organises the prayer network for Caminemos Juntos (Let's Walk Together). She wrote this prayer which is especially helpful for those feeling fearful and anxious, and combines promises from Psalm 16:8 and Psalm 23: 4.
'God, I give fear and anguish into your hands and I receive confidence and peace that only your presence can give me. Since the Lord is at my right hand, I will not be shaken, even if I walk in the valley of the shadow of death I will not fear! For you are with me. Thank you for the grace available in your love. Amen.'

Thursday July 9
Churches can re-open in various countries around the world. Pray for churches in your own area: for the ministers and congregations to have right judgement and comfort. This Collect is from the Church of Ireland:
'God, who from of old taught the hearts of your faithful people by sending to them the light of your Holy Spirit: Grant us by the same Spirit to have a right judgment in all things and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort; through the merits of Christ Jesus our Saviour, who is alive and reigns with you in the unity of the Spirit, one God, now and for ever.'
