EPISODE THIRTY-TWO: MY DESIRE
© KINGDOM ADVANCEMENT MOVEMENT
Both of them remain silent. Of course, Caleb knew the only option they had was to get married and he was working towards that.
The issue continued for some days to a point that Sarah didn't even bother to hold Caleb at any point. They avoided physical touch. He left the house to meditate and pray for days because of her.
The information about their relationship got leaked, it was really a heavy blow to them. It became a topic of the town, everybody gave history they could come up with. Sarah could not raise her head in the Church and in the street. Church members were curious. The Church was divided into versions and gossip everywhere.
"Despite all effort to make Pastor Caleb look at a beautiful sister like me as a lead Choir member, he still didn't notice me. He settled down for that empty vessel."
Beatrice tantrums while discussing with her gossip friend after rehearsal.
"I can't believe you have been secretly eyeing Pastor Caleb. What God has planned no man can change it, "
"You mean God planned an anointed man of God like Pastor Caleb to marry a harlot?"
" Beatriceee! You better shut your mouth before Satan builds a mansion in hell for you. I can't sit here with you gossiping,"
"Lawyer Tabitha, keep defending nonsense." She hissed, packing her books.
"Meet me at home when you are done," Tabitha left her in the Church premises.
"A great man of God finally decided to settle down after 41 years to one of the notorious commercial s*x workers in town. Although she's now a born again Christian but, do you think he deserves public food, when there are thousands of ladies falling for the handsome pastor?" She watched the news over and over again until he glued his eyes to the Hisense Television.
Another version said, "e don cast, pastor Caleb Ojutota served single sisters heartbreak after settling down to marry a once upon a time pr******te," Caleb watched with expressionless face.
"You have to do this once and for all," he told himself. Caleb had told her parents he didn't need a crowd in the wedding. All they needed was the pastor to tie the knot and their parents. With few workers, his father, his brother and there won't be reception.
Despite the rules he gave, on the day of the wedding, he was shocked that everywhere was filled with people, Cameras were flashing from every corner.
"Who invited them?" Caleb whispered to her where they were sitting at the front of the altar.
"I don't know," she replied, dodging the camera.
After the pastor declared them husband and wife, Caleb took his wife and left the church. His driver drove them straight to Airport where they boarded a plane to Port Harcourt, the new house he built for himself and Sarah.
The church cooked and did reception on their behalf. Pastor Adeleke gave them the full gist later. Some elders in the Church sponsored the whole event.
There was no special treatment for Sarah because she was afraid that electric shock might take place.
On their wedding night, she knelt down by the bedside still in her wedding gown, Caleb joined her.
They prayed and committed their marriage into God's hands.
The first night was not funny. He was just looking at her. Sarah didn't know what to do. She was sitting there with her simple wedding dress like a child that missed the road. She suddenly felt shy in the presence of him.
"I guess we are paying for our sins," Sarah said amidst tears.
"No, Sarah. God has forgiven us a long time ago. I don't believe it was God that's doing it. Come here, he commanded her. "
Sarah didn't want to move close to him, He looked at her in an unusual way she couldn't explain but was scared of moving close to the enigmatic man in her front.
"My love, come closer,"
"The shock...," she managed to say
He pulled her, Sarah landed on his lapse like a paper.
"Did you feel an electric shock?" He teased, he reached out to touch her face. She felt relax a bit.
She touched him the more and the electric shock wasn't there. She looked him in the eyes.
"How did you do it?"
"I went back to God in prayer. When will I have food and I will be having sore throat?" His handsome face shone with admiration.
"Food?" Sarah was speechless thinking about the meaning of his statement.
"Yes, food... Feel free, Sarah. This is Caleb, your husband and not the man you see on the pulpit or performing miracles." After saying that, he bent low and kissed her.
Sarah was shy...
"Still scared?"
"No, Caleb. Why should I, pastor Caleb?"
Her sharp tongue came back to life.
"I need to shower." She jumped up from where she was sitting, turning her back. He got her message "with all pleasure," he muttered and undressed her.
"Can you still walk or I should help you out too?"
"I have my legs with me," she said and ran to the bathroom.
Different calls came in at night. There are news from different platform. As he was about to switch off his phone...
The first information he saw about her came in again. He kept reading the article about Sarah over and over again till it stuck.
"This is what I have to deal with, God," he said and started unbuttoning his shirt.
His mind wasn't settled again. When Sarah came out, he didn't feel the urge to do anything with her.
She noticed his mood and didn't know how to react at all.
Caleb was in the bathroom for almost an hour, the word he said to her years back played on her mind.
"Kings don't eat food that is open but a well covered meal and well prepared." She sobbed when she saw the news, regretting her actions.
Sarah was tired, she slept off. Very early the next morning, he picked his car keys and drove out without informing her or dropping a note. He didn't tell anyone about his movement.
Sarah woke up to see an empty bed. She left their room and went to look for him. Caleb had gone to one of the headquarters to lock himself up for prayers.
He started having hatred towards his newlywed wife. Satan was really sowing seeds of discord. Sarah stepped out in search of him in the compound. She only saw the gateman and she was told he drove out early hour. She didn't know how to search for him.
She moved back inside, getting scared. "Father, please don't count my sins against me. Where is my husband? Where is Caleb? Touch his heart, oh God."
She couldn't concentrate on what she was doing. Caleb didn't return until the third day.
"Oh Lord, I can't continue like this, help me to overlook all my past errors and plague me with Sarah's love," he kept praying till he fell asleep.
"Looking for gold?" A voice asked while he was running in search of one.
"Yes, sir."
"You just passed it, look back,"
"I didn't see any gold on my way..."
"Go back, a few distances from here you'll see a ball like shape, pick and wash it."
He did as the man directed, he woke up, looking at the time, it was midnight of the
Fourth day.
Sarah couldn't eat anything, she has been praying too. For days, waiting for him. On the evening of the fourth day, Caleb came back home.
They stared at each other like strangers. She couldn't get mad at him even though she was angry.
"Sarah, I am sorry for leaving unannounced," He broke the silence.
"Why?"
"I needed to flog some things out of me in the place of prayer. I started hating you when I saw those news online. It's not easy, Sarah.
"About me, right?"
"Yes but, it's over now," he hovered and blew her a kiss. Sarah could not regain her strength, returning the favour to him. He performed his husband's duty towards her. While in the moment of intimacy, Caleb kept saying to her,
"Do you agree with the man of God now that you'll mother many Children and great men for God?" he said in-between pleasure and ministering to her needs.
"Yes, I do," She softly said with a moan until they both got exhausted. He held her so tight with his mind blank and all that came playing there was God and Sarah, his wife.
Her stealthy breath made him realise she had fallen asleep on his chest. He tucked her in bed and stepped down, giving her a long gaze before walking to the bathroom to shower with smiles plastered on his face.
"I want to honour an interview next weekend. Will you like to come with me?" He said on the second day.
Caleb has been turning down interviews regarding his wife's past for over a year. He needed to defend her openly and the best way to do that is to honour one of the press men's invitations. He told her it was about her and he would like her to be on the show with him.
"Sure, where you go, I'll go and whatever you do, I will do, your passion becomes mine, your prayer requests are all mine, your God is now my God, your no is my no, my pastor, my priest, my love, my mentor, my special adviser, the only one that will tongue lash me like a child...," She coquettishly said, pouting her mouth.
Caleb couldn't hold himself, he hugged her so tight. They spent a week indoors, everything they needed was supplied.
"I can't believe I found love again after the trauma I passed through growing up. Sarah broke that chain of self pity and wrong determination," Caleb thought while they were having dinner. Caleb only ate once in a day and that's dinner. Sometimes he didn't eat all or only feed on fruits.
At a point, Sarah felt she didn't know how to cook or satisfy his cravings but he had to explain that he was used to feeding once. He lived on fasting and prayers even when he wasn't fasting, he still found it so hard to eat like normal people do.
