DAY 8: TRUE LEADERSHIPIS NOT LORDSHIP.
Jesus taught His disciples one of the greatest lessons on leadership. While they all sat waiting to be served, Jesus took a towel, knelt down, and washed the feet of His disciples — a task traditionally reserved for the lowest servant in the house.
With that single act, He dismantled the worldly idea that leadership is lordship and established Heaven’s model: leadership is service.
In many cultures and systems, leadership has often been misunderstood as domination. Leaders become untouchable, unquestionable, and inaccessible. People do all the work while one person takes all the glory. Many are driven relentlessly without appreciation, value, or care.
But Jesus introduced a different pattern. For the first time, people saw a leader who was accessible, compassionate, and actively involved in the lives of those He led.
Matthew 20:27–28
“And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:
Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
True leadership is service, sacrifice, and selflessness.
Those who fail to understand this principle often see leadership merely as power, status, or an opportunity to promote personal interests. That is why some people suddenly isolate themselves from the very people they were called to serve the moment they attain a position.
They love the title, but they do not understand the responsibility.
Leadership is not about titles, positions, or authority.
Leadership is about serving people and helping them become better.
Great leaders seek to understand before they demand. They guide instead of controlling. They inspire instead of intimidating. That is why people naturally trust and follow them.
True motivation in leadership comes from purpose, not pride. When your desire is to serve, your impact becomes meaningful and lasting.
Many people desire leadership, but few are willing to serve. Yet service is the pathway to genuine influence. People do not follow perfection; they follow authenticity, humility, and compassion.
Ask yourself: “Who am I helping grow?”
If no one is becoming better because of your leadership, then you may only be occupying a position, not fulfilling leadership.
Leadership is not about standing above people; it is about lifting people up. The higher you help others rise, the greater your influence, honor, and legacy become.
