THE POWER OF REPENTANCE PART ONE
Repentance is an inward change of mind on an intention or a purpose or an action or a way of life to act contrary. It is a 180° U-turn, turning in the opposite direction of where someone faces or intends to go. It is a change of mind that leads to a changed life.
So repent (change your mind and purpose); turn around and return [to God], that your sins may be erased (blotted out, wiped clean), that times of refreshing (of recovering from the effects of heat, of reviving with fresh air) may come from the presence of the Lord; [AMP] Act 3:19.
Repentance is the gate that opens up the way to salvation for a sinner. Jesus is the way. God leads man to repentance whenever He wants to save him. A sinner first experiences genuine repentance from all sins when he encounters the Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. Zacchaeus is a case study ( Luke 19:8-9 ). There is an instant assurance of salvation when a man truly repents.
A man can’t affirm being saved without the testimony of genuine repentance. Without repentance, a man can not experience the saving power of Jesus Christ. Remember, Simon the sorcerer in Act 8:18-25. There are people in our days who affirm being saved or born again when they are still in their sins. There is no assurance of salvation without genuine repentance. A man is not saved by mere confession of Jesus as Lord and Saviour and confession of sins without truly repenting.
Though being saved or being born again doesn’t make you infallible. But, repentance makes you turn your back on sin and become committed to pleasing God. You close and lock the gate against sin when you repent.
Repentance is not meant for unbelievers alone. All believers need to repent at one point in time or the other. Repentance is a way of victory over sin for believers. An unbeliever closes and locks the door against sin and Satan when he/she repents and a believer closes and locks the door against sin and Satan when he/she repents. You will get to know more about this in the next series.
Should you don't have assurance of being saved, kindly repent from your sins and confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour now.
To be continued.
