LOVE BEYOND ROMANCE: CELEBRATING EVERY HEART THAT MATTERS
_By Abigail Odunlade_
INTRODUCTION:
Valentineâs Day often brings hearts, flowers, and romantic gestures to mind- but love is far bigger than that. Itâs about recognizing everyone who makes a difference in our lives: family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, and supporters who stand by us through thick and thin. This season, letâs pause and reflect on the deeper meaning of LOVE- the kind that is patient, kind, forgiving, and selfless. It is a love that doesnât keep score, doesnât envy, and thrives even in the storm. In February, we celebrate not just romance, but every heart that matters, including YOU, dearly beloved reader.
THE ACTUAL CONCEPT OF VALENTINE
Valentine is not just about romantic love; it is about expressing gratitude to our loved ones- family, friends, and supporters who stand by us. Itâs a day to recognize their efforts, support, and sacrifices. As we celebrate the month of love, let usshift our focus from just lovers to everyone who makes a difference in our lives.
Reflect rather on the true meaning of LOVE. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 says:
âLOVE is patient; IT does not rush, IT waits uncomplainingly. IT is long-suffering, LOVE is kind; IT is accommodating. IT does not envy; IT is satisfied, IT does not boast; IT is humble, IT is not proud, not pompous.
IT does not dishonor others; IT gives respect to whom it is due, IT is not self-seeking; love considers others, IT is not easily angered; IT is rather easily pleased, IT keeps no record of wrongs; IT is forgiving.
LOVE does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
IT always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.â
âLove is kindâ reminds us that our appreciation should be genuine and selfless. Here is a gentle but firm reminder to use this month and every single moment to inform and remind our loved ones how much we value them. Whether through words, actions, or gifts, always show gratitude and make it a day to remember.
CONCLUSION
As my dad always says, IFE, which means love in English, is an abbreviation: I stands for Ire (Goodness), F is FĂșn (For), while E means áșžnĂŹkejĂŹ (The other person). With that, heâd say love simply means wanting or finding GOODNESS FOR THE OTHER PERSON- OF and that other person could be your friend, your parents, your colleagues, your neighbors, or anyone around you.
Love means caring for others. Love is not selfish, wicked, or covetous; it is selfless, kind, and generous. Love does not remember past mistakes. It thrives in hard times and waxes stronger in the midst of the storm. It doesnât compare, it encourages, and it uplifts.
As we celebrate the month of love, remember to actually LOVE.
