TOPIC: USING THE POWER OF GOD

MEMORISE:
“Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction.” - (2 Corinthians 13:10)

BIBLE READING: LUKE 9:52-56 (KJV)

52 And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.

53 And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.

54 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?

55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.

56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.

MESSAGE:
Some people who have received a measure of God's power use it wrongly. For example, simply because people fall under the anointing during their ministrations, some ministers of God want to touch people just to show that they are anointed. Some even perform different acrobatics during deliverance sessions. Some of them give demon-possessed people microphones so that people can hear what the demons are saying. All of these are unnecessary and wrong. Ministers of God should simply cast demons out of people to set them free; they shouldn't embarrass the people they are trying to deliver because they want to show that they are anointed.

The power of God isn't a tool for punishment but for bringing joy to the hearts of people. When God gives you a measure of His power, it is for you to give life to dead things and bring glory to Him, not for you to show off or seek personal gain or vengeance. It is possible to destroy and kill with the power God has given to you; however, that is not what it is meant for. This is why most mature believers are usually slow to speak and try not to get angry no matter what people do to them. They don't want to ever use the power of God for evil. When God gives you a measure of His power, you are not to go around destroying people you consider to be enemies. Ephesians 6:12 says:

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

A vessel in satan's hands today can become a great vessel in God's hands tomorrow. If God could use Mary Magdalene, who had seven demons in her, He can use anyone who is considered evil. If Stephen had called death upon Saul as he was being executed under Saul's supervision, there would never have been an Apostle Paul. Paul said in today's memory verse that the power of God is for edification, not destruction.

In today's Bible reading, James and John wanted to call down fire on the Samaritans because they didn't receive Jesus. However, Jesus told them that He came to save, not to destroy lives. Beloved, God's will is for everyone to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4); He doesn't want anyone to perish (2 Peter 3:9). If He has given you a measure of His power, only use it to fulfil His will, not to destroy.

KEY POINT:
God's power is for saving people and blessing them, not for showing off or destroying lives.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: ACTS 27-28

HYMNAL: 31 - YIELD NOT TO TEMPTATION

1 Yield not to temptation,
for yielding is sin.
Each vict'ry will help you
some other to win.
Fight valiantly onward;
dark passions subdue.
Look ever to Jesus;
He'll carry you through.
Refrain:
Ask the Savior to help you,
comfort, strengthen, and keep you.
He is willing to aid you;
He will carry you through.

2 Shun evil companions;
bad language disdain.
God’s name hold in rev'rence,
nor take it in vain.
Be thoughtful and earnest,
kind-hearted and true.
Look ever to Jesus;
He'll carry you through. [Refrain]

3 To him that o’ercometh
God giveth a crown.
Through faith we will conquer,
though often cast down.
He who is our Savior
our strength will renew.
Look ever to Jesus;
He'll carry you through. [Refrain]

TOPIC: GODLY COUNSEL

MEMORISE:
“Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.” - (Proverbs 19:20)

BIBLE READING: EXODUS 18:13-26 (KJV)

13 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening.

14 And when Moses' father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?

15 And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to enquire of God:

16 When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.

17 And Moses' father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.

18 Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.

19 Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:

20 And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.

21 Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

22 And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.

23 If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace.

24 So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father in law, and did all that he had said.

25 And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

26 And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.

MESSAGE:
In (2 Kings 5:1-14), Naaman, a commander in the Syrian army, came to Elisha because he needed healing from leprosy. The prophet instructed him to do something he felt was way below his status - he was to dip himself seven times in River Jordan, a river he considered to be way below other prestigious rivers in his home country. Angrily, Naaman rejected Elisha's instruction and was already on his way back to Syria when one of his servants counselled him to obey the prophet's instructions. Thank God he heeded his servant's counsel and did as Elisha had instructed. He was cured of his leprosy immediately, and his skin became like that of a newborn. If he had rejected his servant's simple advice, he would have had to live the rest of his life as a l***r. The greatest miracle of your life might be tied to hearing and obeying godly counsel. It is important to never ignore godly counsel, no matter the age or status of the person or people giving the counsel.

Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety. (Proverbs 11:14)

In today's Bible reading, Jethro travelled to the wilderness to visit Moses, his son-in-law. During his visit, he observed how Moses attended to every single issue that arose in the camp of the Israelites all by himself from morning to night, such that at the end of every day, he was always exhausted. After making this observation, Jethro counselled Moses on what to do. He told him to choose rulers of different ranks from among the people who could also judge matters that arose within the camp. Although Jethro didn't have the burning bush experience that Moses had, Moses listened to him and received God's counsel through him.

But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. (James 4:6)

Humility or meekness is an ingredient for receiving God's grace. You need a meek heart to properly discern when God is speaking through someone and receive what He has to say to you through them. Moses was known as the meekest man on earth (Numbers 12:3), and his meekness was what made him able to receive counsel from people who seemed not to have attained his spiritual height and influence. No matter how high you get, God wants you to remain meek. Ask God for a meek heart to receive His counsel through whatever vessel or method He chooses to use.

PRAYER POINT:
Father, please give me a meek heart so that I can receive Your counsel through whatever vessel or method You choose to use to speak, in Jesus' name.

TOPIC: KING FOREVER

MEMORISE:
“The Lord is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land.” - (Psalm 10:16)

READ: PSALM 29:10-11 (KJV)

10 The LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the LORD sitteth King for ever.

11 The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.

MESSAGE:
God wasn't enthroned; therefore, nobody can dethrone Him. The devil once tried, but he was kicked out of heaven (Revelation 12:9). God is King, and He is King forever.

When I say that God is king, I mean that He is King over all earthly kings. No matter how powerful a king is and no matter how much he has achieved, God is greater than him. In Daniel 4:1-37, Nebuchadnezzar thought that he could take the glory that belonged to God. God made him eat grass for seven years, and when he came back to his senses, he said, "God is the Almighty."

If you are a king in your own right, whether in your organisation, family, state, or wherever, your reign is only temporary. You should submit to the One who is King forever if you want to have a good and memorable reign. David submitted to God, and up until today, Israel still recognises him as their greatest king ever.

Many years ago, I was invited to dedicate the RCCG national headquarters in a particular country, and I gave the church leaders a date in my calendar. In that country, government permits are required before hosting dedication ceremonies, so the church applied for a permit. However, a man in the government was determined to stop the dedication. He said, "I have heard about this church. You plan to convert everyone and build churches everywhere; that will not work here." The church leaders called me to report the situation, and to be honest, I didn't even pray about it. The day the man was to attend a meeting to conclude that the dedication wouldn't be allowed to take place, he accidentally put both of his legs into the same trouser hole as he was dressing up. He struggled to free his legs until he fell and was rushed to the hospital. He eventually died with both of his legs still in the same trouser hole. Nobody possesses greater power than God; when He decides to do something, it is better to cooperate with Him because He cannot be stopped.

Jesus is King forever, and all power belongs to Him. All souls are His (Ezekiel 18:4), including yours, and He wants you to surrender what belongs to Him. You belong to the King, and it is a blessed thing to belong to Him because you will automatically have access to all that He has.

KEY POINT:
There is only one King who reigns forever: King Jesus.

HYMNAL: 18 - PRAISE TO THE LORD, THE ALMIGHTY, THE KING OF CREATION

1 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!
O my soul, praise him, for he is your health and salvation!
Come, all who hear; now to his temple draw near,
join me in glad adoration.

2 Praise to the Lord, above all things so wondrously reigning;
sheltering you under his wings, and so gently sustaining!
Have you not seen all that is needful has been
sent by his gracious ordaining?

3 Praise to the Lord, who will prosper your work and defend you;
surely his goodness and mercy shall daily attend you.
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do,
if with his love he befriends you.

4 Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me adore him!
All that has life and breath, come now with praises before him.
Let the Amen sound from his people again;
gladly forever adore him.

TOPIC: WHY GOD CHOSE YOU

MEMORY VERSE
And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. Matthew 23:12

BIBLE TEXT
1 Corinthians 1:26-29
[26]For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

[27]But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

[28]And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

[29]That no flesh should glory in his presence.

MESSAGE
If God has called you for an assignment, you may be thinking, "Why is it me He chose out of everyone that could have done this work!" Well, Psalm 115 : 3 says that God does as He pleases.
Believe me, He made that decision to use you for that assignment from the foundation of the world. He chose you before He said, "Let there be light" in Genesis 1 : 3. Ephesians 1 : 4 says: "According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: When I see people that are anxious about their future, I tell them, "Relax". Do you think God doesn't know what to do? Do you think He is sitting in heaven, scratching His Almighty head and asking for advice on what next to do? God settled your future before the foundation of the earth, This is why I am not worried; my future was settled before l was born. This is why you should be humble because you didn't choose yourself ( John 15:16 ). You are not chosen because you are educated or connected, it is the exact opposite.

1 Corinthians 1:27 says that God chooses the foolish things, the weak things, and the things that are nought. If God chose you, it means you are foolish by human standards; you are weak, and you are nothing by human standards. Even if it appears as if you are wise by humanbstandards, the moment you surrender all to God and begin to live strictly by His standards, the world will begin to see you as a foolish person. So, never raise your head in pride about your achievements. Nebuchadnezzar tried it and found himself in the bushes. For the rest of your life, you must be grateful to God. David said in Psalm 34 : 1 : I will bless the Lord at all times, His praise shall continually be in my mouth."
David knew what he was talking about. God chose Him to be the king of Israel even when his family members would not have voted for him if he ran for elections. I believe that right now, God is talking to you concerning this because of how high He wants to take you. If you listen and become humble, then He will lift you, but if you refuse to humble yourself, then you will be abased (Matthew 23:12). Let pride disappear from your life completely.

REFLECTION
Check yourself sincerely, is there still pride lurking anywhere in your heart? Get rid of it today.

BIBLE IN A YEAR
Numbers 19-21

HYMN 14 O WHAT A WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL DAY

1. O what a wonderful, wonderful day
Day I will never forget;
After I'd wandered in darkness away
Jesus my Saviour I met
O what a tender, compassionate friend
He met the need of my heart;
Shadows dispelling,
With joy I am telling
He made all the darkness depart!

Heaven came down and glory filled my soul
When at the cross my Saviour made me whole
My sins were washed away
And my night was turned to day
Heaven came down and glory filled my soul

2. Born of the Spirit with life from above
Into God's family divine,
Justified fully thru Calvary's love
O what a standing is mine!
And the transaction so quickly was made
When as a sinner I came,
Took of the offer of grace He did proffer
He saved me, O praise His dear name!

3. Now I've a hope that will surely endure
After the passing of time;
I have a future in heaven for sure
There in those mansions sublime
And it's because of that wonderful day
When at the cross I believed;
Riches eternal and blessings supernal
From His precious hand I received.
