CYO Nigeria was founded in 1985 to create a youth organization for young Catholics in Nigeria. CYON emerged in the context of a concern of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) that the young Catholics and local Catholic youth organizations in Nigeria should celebrate the International Youth Year (IYY) declared by the United Nations in 1985. Several meetings of chaplains responsible f

or youth affairs and youths leaders from the various dioceses of Nigeria took place to plan a national Catholic youth rally. From this type of rallies finally CYON emerged as a nationwide umbrella for Catholic youth work in Nigeria. In 2010, at the General Assembly in Munich, CYON was adopted as a full member to the international umbrella of Catholic youth organizations "Fimcap". Currently, CYON is building up a cooperation with a Muslim youth organization to foster peace in the country and to begin an inter-religious dialogue.

CYON EASTER MESSAGE 2024
“…Christ is Risen, Alleluia!”

Dear Youths,

It is with joy, we celebrate together the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead. The significance of this celebration hallmarks the ultimate sacrifice of Christ to redeem mankind from sin. This truly demonstrates God’s unfailing love for us despite our guilts, renewing our relationship with God and inspiring us to remain steadfast to the teachings of the church as “Christ’s sacrifice set an example for us.” (1 Pet. 2:21)

Rejoice and be glad for Christ is Risen, Alleluia! Let us continue to reflect on the resurrection for "Jesus is risen, and he wants to make us sharers in the new life of the resurrection. He is the true youthfulness of a world grown old, the youthfulness of a universe waiting “in travail” (Rom 8:22) to be clothed with his light and to live his life." (Christus Vivit 32)

Enjoy the gifts God has given to us through salvation, embrace forgiveness and love to each other, ensure peace and unity.

May the resurrection be a light in our paths, open our hearts and mind in love to God and our neighbors, instill a spirit of compassion and bring us together forever, Amen!

Happy Easter to all!
