THE DEPTH OF INTIMACY: THE UNSHIELDED HEART BEFORE GOD
So David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die.” ...So David arose from the ground, washed and anointed himself, and changed his clothes; and he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped. Then he went to his own house; and when he requested, they set food before him, and he ate. – 2 Samuel 12:13, 20 (NKJV)
Intimacy with God is not built on perfection, but on honesty and sincerity of heart – it is something God sees clearly. Many people come to God guarded, trying to appear strong or righteous. But true intimacy begins where pretence ends. It is the place where you stand before God fully seen, fully known and still fully loved.
David’s life shows this clearly. When the prophet Nathan confronted him, David did not hide, justify, or defend himself. He simply said, “I have sinned against the Lord.” In that moment, he chose intimacy over image. He understood that nothing matters more than staying connected to God.
Intimacy requires vulnerability. It means bringing your brokenness, questions, failures and pain before God without filters. God is not drawn to perfection; He is drawn to truth.
David’s journey did not end with repentance. Even after the loss of his child, he made a powerful decision – he rose and worshipped God. Why? Because his intimacy with God was not based on circumstances, but on relationship.
The depth of intimacy God calls us into is a place where you do not run from Him when you fail, withdraw in pain, or try to hide your shame (Mark 2:17). Instead, you draw closer to Him. He knows that there will be trials and pain, and He came to save you for that very reason.
Beloved, when you live this way, God’s presence becomes your refuge, your place of healing, and your source of renewal and hope. You begin to experience a fellowship that sustains you in both joy and sorrow. This is the life of a heart after God, not flawless, but fully yielded.

Prayer and Confession of Faith: Father, I come before You with an open and sincere heart. I lay aside every form of pretence and choose to be honest before You. Draw me deeper into true intimacy, where I am fully known and fully loved. Teach me to run to You in every season—whether in weakness or in strength. I receive grace, mercy, and restoration as I draw near. Amen!
