This week, we will share thoughts on Wisdom for Surviving in These Trying Times and pray for nations, communities, families, and individuals.
Bishop David Oyedepo defines wisdom as “the right application of knowledge,” while Spiros Zodhiates affirmed that true wisdom is not acquired by man but bestowed by God upon His elect. This truth is firmly established in Scripture: “And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills” (Exodus 31:3); “As for these four young men, God gave them knowledge and skill… and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams” (Daniel 1:17). From these scriptures, we understand a foundational truth: Wisdom for impactful living is divine in origin. It is not merely learned—it is imparted.
We are living in days marked by uncertainty, moral decline, economic pressure, and widespread confusion. Human intelligence alone is no longer sufficient to navigate life successfully. What we need now is divine wisdom—God’s perspective for living. However, Scripture reveals the starting point: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 9:10). The fear of God is not terror—it is reverence that produces obedience.
It positions us to: walk in righteousness, avoid destruction, and preserve our souls in difficult times. As Proverbs 4:7 declares: “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom…”
Scripture clearly distinguishes between two sources of wisdom: Godly (Heavenly) Wisdom, which comes from above and is pure, peaceable, gentle, and full of mercy; produces righteousness and stability; and is rooted in humility and love. This kind of wisdom reflects God’s nature and aligns with His will. Then there is Worldly (Earthly) Wisdom, which is driven by selfish ambition and pride; produces envy, confusion, and disorder; and is manipulative, divisive, and short-sighted. This type of wisdom may appear intelligent, but it ultimately leads to destruction.
Godly Wisdom seeks God first, walks in humility and meekness, promotes unity and love, exercises self-control and discipline, considers the well-being of others, and operates with an eternal perspective. While Worldly Wisdom exalts self and personal achievement, is insensitive to others, breeds competition, envy, and division, operates through manipulation and pride, and focuses on short-term gain over eternal value.
The Power of Divine Wisdom in Difficult Times cannot be overemphasised. When we walk in God’s wisdom, we gain a supernatural advantage—even in adversity. Divine wisdom empowers us with strategic insight for business and career success; creative ideas for wealth creation—even in economic downturns; discernment to manage difficult people and situations; strength and clarity to face adversity with faith; and guidance for healthy, disciplined living. In essence: Wisdom makes us relevant, resilient, and victorious—regardless of circumstances.
Most importantly, we are responsible for the outcome of our choices: if we choose God’s Wisdom, we experience Peace, Joy, fulfillment, Preservation, and Long Life; if we choose Worldly Wisdom, we end up with Confusion, Regret, Disorder, and Destruction. Therefore, in these trying times, we should not merely seek information but divine wisdom. We should ask God for it. Walk in the fear of the Lord and live by His Word. In a world full of uncertainty, wisdom is our greatest survival tool.
