THE WOMAN WITH THE ALABASTER JAR — A STORY OF LOVE, TEARS, AND FORGIVENESS
Copied Her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.” — Luke 7:47 (NIV)
In a quiet room filled with religious leaders and respected men, everything seemed proper, controlled, and dignified—until she walked in. A woman known by many for her broken past stepped into the room uninvited, carrying an alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume. The atmosphere shifted. Eyes turned. Judgments formed. But she wasn’t there for them—she came for Jesus.
She didn’t speak a word. Instead, she fell at His feet, overwhelmed by emotion. Tears began to stream down her face, falling onto His dusty feet. With no cloth in hand, she let down her hair—something no respectable woman would do in public—and gently wiped His feet. She kissed them, again and again, pouring out not just perfume, but her pain, her repentance, and her love.
The room grew uncomfortable. Whispers of criticism filled the air. “If He were truly a prophet,” they thought, “He would know what kind of woman this is.” But Jesus knew. He knew her past, her pain, her shame—and still, He did not pull away.
Instead, He spoke.
He told a story of two people forgiven of debts—one small, the other great—and asked who would love more. The answer was obvious: the one forgiven much. Then He turned toward the woman and did something no one expected—He honored her.
He said her sins were forgiven. Not because of her perfume, not because of her tears—but because of her faith. Her actions revealed a heart that had encountered grace. While others saw her history, Jesus saw her transformation.
In that moment, the room witnessed something powerful: a broken woman became free. Shame lost its grip. Grace spoke louder than judgment. And love—deep, sacrificial love—filled the space.
She came in as a sinner, but she left in peace.
This story reminds us that no past is too heavy for God’s mercy. No label placed on you by people can override what God says about you. When you come to Him with a sincere heart, pouring out everything—He doesn’t reject you. He restores you.
