*Tuesday, May 26, 2026*

*TOPIC: JESUS, THE ONE WHO IS SUPERIOR TO ANGELS (1)*

*Text: Matthew 4: 1, 5-7, 11; Hebrews 1: 1-4*

Maithew, in his gospel account of the temptations of Jesus, tells us that angels came to attend to Him after the devil left Him (Matt.4:11). The Greek word transliteration 'diakoneo' connotes the idea of an attendant waiting on an important person or a host.

It suggests the idea of a servant and we will understand this from the term 'deacons'. In essence, angels serve (or minister) to Jesus. We will recall that: His birth was announced by angels; an angel rolled back the stone from the door of His tomb and announced His resurrection; and lastly, there were 2 men dressed in white (possibly angels) who spoke to the disciples of Christ at His ascension. The Scriptures indeed show us that angels are servants of Christ.

In Heb. 1:4, the Holy Writ plainly tells us that Jesus is superior to angels as the name He has inherited is superior to theirs.

Of course, Paul the Apostle asserts that Jesus has been given a name that is above all names, that at His name, every knee shall bow in heaven, on earth and under the earth, and every tongue shall confess that He is Lord to the glory of the Father. After His resurrection, Christ affirms that all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Him and on that basis, He gave the great commission. It is absurd to hear some people pray to angels or pray to the Father in the names of angels.

The fact that Jesus is superior to angels should be a source of encouragement to us, filling us with boldness and confidence to constantly approach God's throne of mercy in the name of Jesus, our only Lord, with faith that c requests shall be granted according to His will. How blessed we are!

_Prayer: Thank You, Gracious Father, for Jesus who died and is seated at your right hand. May we fully submit ourselves to His rule and authority, as we glorify You through Christ our Redeemer. Amen._

*TOPIC: KISS THE SON*

*Text: Psalm 2: 1-12*

This psalm is quoted several times in the New Testament and is filled with warnings about the strength of the Messiah. There are three guide lines for the daily walk of the Christian contained here:

• Firstly "serve the LORD with fear." In an age in which everyone is encouraged to be ego centred and not to fear anything, there is still God to contend with. It is better to fear Him now than to stand before Him on judgement day and then be afraid. Our service should be enjoyed, but let us make sure it is what the Lord wants.

• Secondly, we are to "rejoice with trembling." Often in Jewish poetry we see a similar statement presented another way and so it is here. Our service should be one of rejoicing. Our happiness is demonstrated by who we are and what we do for God. Fear and trembling acknowledge a higher power than ourselves, we come before our maker proclaiming Him as Lord.

• Thirdly because we serve rejoicing and doing it with fear and trembling, we are permitted to "kiss the Son." The might, the majesty, the authority is set to one side in this most tender demonstration of love.

The Son, our Lord Jesus, wants to be kissed. He wants to feel our emotion and know the depths of relationship He has demonstrated for us at Calvary's cross. We have the privilege to kiss the One who grants us life. Depths of emotion are stirred; here are the effects of love. We do not bring Jesus down but He raises us up - up into the tender arms of the One who loves us with an everlasting love. This sweet tender kiss is shared for the saving of our souls and our assurance of eternity. Let us share our deep emotions and experience his closeness with us today and always.

_Prayer: Thank You, Glorious Father for your incomparable love, demonstrated in Christ Jesus, offering us salvation and declaring us Your children. May we experience that deep closeness with you always; through Christ our Lord. Amen._

*TOPIC: WHEN NOT TO BE SILENT (4)*

*Text: Galatians 2: 11-21*

The Apostle Paul was far from being a character who would be silent when he ought to speak.

In the above text, he told the Christians at Galatia how he was not silent when Cephas (i.e. Peter) negatively influenced some Jewish Christians, to the point of leading Barnabas astray as he (Peter) wrongly (in hypocrisy) withdrew from eating with the Gentiles as soon as some men came from James. Peter was clearly afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group. However, Paul was not silent when he saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel.

He openly rebuked Peter as the situation necessitated it, since others had been adversely influenced.

Similarly, he clearly told the elders of the church at Ephesus that he had not hesitated to preach and teach them all that would be helpful to them, persuading everyone to turn to God in repentance and have faith in Jesus (Acts.20:20-21). He went further to say that he had not hesitated to proclaim to them 'the whole will of God' and that for three years, he never stopped warning each of them with tears. What a passionate farewell! When there is a terrible error that blatantly negates the truth of the gospel, do we keep silent? Not keeping silent is not the same as being aggressive.

We can lovingly speak to people to warn them of imminent dangers. The scriptures enjoin us to speak the truth in love. When our loved ones go astray, we should not look the other way but lovingly reel them back to the Master in the spirit of gentleness so that we ourselves are not tempted. Most importantly, our ways of life should constantly preach the gospel, clearly communicating Christ and Him crucified to all those around us.

_Prayer: Our awesome God, the heavens declare your glorious splendour and the firmament shows your handiwork. As you speak to us through your creation, may our words and actions clearly express the gospel of your Son. Amen._
