THURSDAY NOVEMBER 8, 2018

TOPIC: GET RID OF COVETOUSNESS

TEXT: 2 Kings 5: 20-27.

KEY VERSE: He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity. Ecclesiastes 5: 10.

Covetousness is the desire to accumulate wealth and material resources for one’s personal pleasure and pride. The covetous man wants every good thing he sees to become his own. He has a strong inner wish to claim the good materials and property that others possess. He actually loves money. He has undue love for material things. He wishes to possess every beautiful material thing his eye sees. He wishes every beautiful woman for himself. He wishes every handsome and great man for herself). No amount of material things possessed by him can satisfy him. He is always looking for more.

The covetous person is restless and peaceless, because of the strong drive in him for more. This was the spirit of King Solomon that made him to marry seven hundred wives and kept three hundred concubines. The covetous man is wicked because in his drive for accumulation he deprives others. He is a waster because he does not really use the things he accumulates through covetousness.

Covetousness is a plague because it makes the victim restless. As covetousness brought leprosy to Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, so also it brings spiritual leprosy to many people in the house of God.

Jesus solemnly warns against covetous practices. “And he said unto them, Take heed and beware of covetousness: For a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth”, Luke 12: 15.

Be content with your wages. Do not spend your strength pursuing the material world of vanity. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, by supporting true preachers and churches to promote Christ and spread His salvation among men in the world. The love of money and material things is the reason for many sins and wicked activities in the world, in the church and in the Christian ministry. Tell God to save your soul and deliver you from covetousness, which is idolatry. Tell Him to give you the grace to serve Him in righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and humility.

Thought for the day: Examine the way you make money and ensure it is in holiness.

TOPIC: CONTINUE TO BE JUST BEFORE GOD

TEXT: Daniel 6: 20-23.

KEY VERSE: Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world. 1 John 4: 4.

There is an assurance to the just that if he continues in righteousness, no matter what happens to him, he shall triumph in life. They that believe in God are the all-time overcomers in life. Life is generally warfare. The battle is between the forces of light and darkness. Before the battle begins, it is already settled that the force of light will prevail. The winning secret is the righteousness of the saint.

People of darkness cannot be righteous, so they remain the losers. Whatever is the confrontation between you and the devil; whatever is the bone of contention between you and an individual or an organization, if you can continue in righteousness, you will be the winner. Keep yourself blameless and you shall live.

Psalm 84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly.
When the Lord gives grace, He accompanies it with His glory so that shame and reproach organized by the enemy can be taken out of the life of His children.

God is a merciful God and the just is confident that God will arise to have mercy upon him. He believes that God will surely come and save him; that God is a lover, compassionate and merciful. He is ever there and always willing to help His people.

TOPIC: SEEK DIVINE DIRECTION

TEXT: Genesis 26:1-3, 12-14

KEY VERSE: Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life. Proverbs 4: 13

Life is a maze, a complex network. Things are not always exactly as they appear or turn out the way you think. That is why you need divine direction. Direction precedes miracle and breakthrough. Proverbs 14:12, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

Jesus is the Way, the only Person that can show you the right way to go. Jesus is the Truth, the only One that cannot deceive or lead you astray. Jesus is the Life, the only One that can give you the fullness of life. Put your trust in Him and you will not end up in the wrong destination in life. Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

If you travel to a strange land, you ask the local people you meet on the way for direction otherwise you will miss your way. They are able to help because they have lived in the community for some time and are familiar with its geography. It is the same with navigating life. Only the Giver of life can navigate it and give direction that will lead you to your final destination. He is the One that can tell you what tomorrow holds in stock for you. He is the One that can tell you whether the smooth road you are walking now will lead to a dead end, which is not good for you. He is the One that can tell you to endure a little more because your breakthrough is just around the corner.

In today’s devotional text, we see how through divine direction Isaac stayed back in famine-ravaged land of Gerar to reap bountiful harvest. It was a miracle preceded by direction. He had decided to relocate to Egypt in order to escape the famine in the land. This appeared to be the wisest thing to do but God said, “No, in this land of famine I will bless you exceedingly.” He obeyed and the result was beyond all expectations.

Gideon followed divine direction and used just 300 soldiers to defeat the mighty army of Midian. Joshua followed divine direction and the wall of Jericho collapsed without shooting an arrow. Moses followed divine direction and the Red Sea gave way. Peter followed divine direction and experienced a boat-sinking harvest of fish. Follow divine direction today and enter into your breakthrough.

Thought for the day: Make Jesus the compass of your life and you will never miss the way.

TOPIC; RESTITUTION REQUIRED.
SUNDAY NOVEMBER 26
TEXT: LUKE 19 :1-11
Key Verse: “And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken anything from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold” Luke 19: 8.
Many believers are harbouring restitution and believe they are on their way to heaven. Restitution may be very difficult to do but pleasant and reassuring once completed. We may be born again but not following peace with all men. And if this happens the believer will never see God. “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord” Hebrews 12: 14. What permits entry into heaven is purity of heart and holiness of life. Holiness of life includes sanctification of the heart, outward holiness and complete obedience to the commandments of God. This is true holiness which leads to heaven. Holiness of heart and body are not possible for a sinner to achieve. Restitution is the pathway to peace and holiness. If you are now saved but remain in a wrong marriage, there is no heaven for you. If you borrowed school books, you must return such. If you have stolen someone’s pencil, pen, money, or anything in the past, now that you are born again, you are expected to go to those people and amend your wrong doing. It may be as little as these ones and can be as big as cheating on your spouse, stolen goods or things taken forcefully and fraudulently. Stealing from your spouse, cheating with a married man or woman and their spouse was not aware, wrong marriage, robbing, killing, etc which so ever you have done, God accepts you as a believer to make your restitution. Now you are born again and you don’t have the language of sorry in your mouth, know for sure there is no heaven for you. The language of sorry should be part of your daily language. To achieve peace in your marriage you must ensure to speak the language of sorry always. If your heart is not circumcised it will be difficult to make any restitution whether past or present. Restitution is a practical way of showing you are truly born again. It makes your repentance complete. Restitution beautifies the gospel of the Lord Jesus. You must restitute all your rebellious ways to your spouse now that your heart is circumcised. Restitution brings about peace in all areas of your life. It brings complete holiness. Without restitution, your Christianity is not approved by God. Again, you must be very careful with your tongue, and must restitute every back biting. All lies must be restituted for you to make heaven.
