NOTE ON THE CORRECT PROCEDURE FOR HAND SALUTE
The hand salute is a vital symbol of respect, discipline, and honour in any uniform organization. It must be performed correctly, uniformly, and only when appropriate.
CORRECT PROCEDURE FOR A PROPER SALUTE
Stand firmly at attention body upright, eyes forward, raise the right hand smartly to the forehead, fingers must be together and straight, with the thumb aligned along the hand. The tip of the forefinger should touch the right eyebrow. The elbow should be in line with the shoulder, not dropped or raised excessively. The palm facing outward. The left hand remains steady by the side. Hold the salute until it is acknowledged, then return the hand smartly.
IMPORTANT RULES ON M***I (CIVIL DRESS, BB T-SHIRT WITH FACE CAP)
Individuals dressed in m***i (civilian attire or BB T-Shirt with face cap) are NOT expected to salute on any ground especially around the saluting dais.
Saluting is a privilege and duty of those properly dressed in full uniform.
SALUTING ON THE DAIS (VERY IMPORTANT)
On the saluting dais, ONLY the *Reviewing Officer or Special Guest of Honour* is expected to take the salute. When the parade commander gives the order “General Salute – Salute” The parade salutes the reviewing officer and only the reviewing officer returns the salute. No other person around the saluting dais either on uniform or m***i should salute alongside the reviewing officer or the special guest of honour.
During the National Anthem, Everyone on uniform (including the reviewing officer) salutes . This preserves order, respect, and proper ceremonial protocol.
COMMON ERRORS OBSERVED
Saluting while not on uniform (m***i, BB T-shirt with face cap) ❌
Fingers spread out or thumb sticking out ❌
Multiple people saluting on the dais ❌
MEASURES TO GET IT RIGHT
Conduct regular drill practices and corrections.
Emphasize uniform standards before saluting is allowed.
Appoint Drill Instructors to monitor and correct errors.
