Heaven is meant for few. What God asked us to do is what Peter said before his departure β remind you of the things you already know (2 Pet 1:12β13). These are not new things. Here are 13 points of encouragement.
1. Don't be discouraged in well doing. In due season you shall reap if you faint not (Gal 6:9). If you lose what you have worked for, you cannot receive the full reward (2 Jn 1:8). We cannot understand God's timetable and that is why we need grace. Without it you will crash. God has a set time (Ps 102:13, Gen 18:14). He will not rush for your sake. He is an examiner, not your houseboy. What God has said must come to pass if you don't faint (John 11:1β6, 17).
2. Don't faint at the altar of prayers. He will avenge His elect speedily β that is God's timetable, not yours (Luke 18:1β8). Whatever you are praying for and not yet seeing results, don't give up. Ask until you receive that your joy may be full (John 16:24). Prayer is labour (Col 4:12, Ps 126:5). Pray without ceasing. The tendency to faint exists and that is why we need grace.
3. Have faith in God, not in man. Man will fail you (Ps 118:8). Have faith in God (Mark 11:22β23). Without faith it is impossible to please Him (Heb 11:6). Faith comes by hearing the Word (Rom 10:17). When you hear the Word and don't mix it with faith, it profits nothing (Heb 4:2).
4. Don't miss fellowship. Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, so much the more as you see the day approaching (Heb 10:25). Until I went into the sanctuary, then understood I (Ps 73:17β18). When the joy of fellowship is no longer in you, pray for grace (1 Jn 1:5β7, Ps 122:1).
5. Don't eat poison. Don't operate under a curse. Faithfully pay your tithe (Mal 3:6β12). A genuine child of God does not need grace to pay tithe β it is supposed to be part of you. What you need grace for is sowing, first fruits and offerings above and beyond. Sow bountifully and reap bountifully (2 Cor 9:6β8). Jesus did not abolish the law of tithing (Matt 5:17, Rom 3:31).
6. Persevere and be patient. Do not judge God as unfaithful when you are still alive (Heb 10:35β39, 23). David waited patiently and God set his feet on a rock and put a new song in his mouth (Ps 40:1β3). After Abraham patiently endured, he obtained the promise (Heb 6:12, 15). My times are in Your hands (Ps 31:15). He that believeth shall not be in a hurry (Isa 28:16). They shall not be ashamed that wait for Me (Isa 49:23, 40:31).
7. Avoid evil associations in God's house. There are evil people in the church β avoid them. Jesus had 12 apostles and one was Judas. Among God's people, wicked men lay wait (Jer 5:26). In the place of righteousness, iniquity was there (Eccl 3:16). Judgment begins at the house of God (1 Pet 4:17). Remove your eyes from distractors and stay focused.
8. Watch your meditation. Meditate on the goodness of God (Ps 104:33β34, Ps 1:1β3). Think on things that are true, honest, just, pure and lovely (Phil 4:8). Thy Word is truth (John 17:17). The devil will never encourage you in the things of God. Remember His past track record and shame the devil with thanksgiving.
9. Be hopeful. There is hope of a tree β if it be cut down, it will sprout again (Job 14:7β9). Without grace you will be hopeless. Hope does not make ashamed (Rom 5:5). Against hope, believe in hope (Rom 4:18). The God we serve is the God of hope (Rom 15:13).
10. Keep sowing. Ask God for grace to sow. Seedtime and harvest shall not cease (Gen 8:22). Cast your bread upon the waters (Eccl 11:1β6). Sow your time, talent, money and service. Christianity is sacrificial (Ps 50:5, Rom 12:1β2).
11. Be thankful. Don't murmur and grumble. Give thanks always for all things (Eph 5:20, 1 Thess 5:18). Even disappointment can turn to blessing β all things work together for good (Rom 8:28). Those who murmured were destroyed of the destroyer (1 Cor 10:10). Have no business with murmurers and complainers.
12. Reject sorrow and always rejoice. Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice (Phil 4:4, 1 Thess 5:16). The joy of the Lord is your strength (Neh 8:10). Remember answers to prayer. Remember what God has done. Reject sorrow.
13. Live holy. Be ye holy for I am holy (1 Pet 1:15β16). Holiness is the highway to heaven (Isa 35:8). Without holiness no man shall see the Lord (Heb 12:14). There shall in no wise enter into heaven anything that defileth (Rev 21:27). If you defile yourself, forget about heaven unless you repent. Please, live holy.
Prayer:
π Father, the grace to finish well and finish strong, release upon me in the name of Jesus.
π Father, the grace to do Your will, release upon me in the name of Jesus.
π Father, don't let me be found where Your grace will not answer for me in the name of Jesus.
π Father, give us the grace to be doers of what we have heard. Thank You because it is done. In Jesus gracious name. Amen. π
