TOUCH MY EYES, LORD

Our anchor scripture for today:
"And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink."
(Gen.21:19)

One of the ironies of life is that in a world filled with limitless opportunities, many still walk through being totally ignorant of available resources. The result is that some die in penury, passing through many destiny changing chances without recognizing them. Sadly, an opportunity that you do not recognize, you cannot harness. How far can we go except the Lord opens our eyes?

Abraham had sent Hagar away with Ishmael, her son. Far into their journey, they ran out of
water and the child was dying. At the surface, one would say it was lack of water that was the problem. A deeper look reveals that water was already made available by God but Hagar could not see it. Eyes that look and eyes that see are, sometimes, worlds apart. When God opened her eyes, she saw water, more than enough for her baby to drink.

A man who sees what other people cannot see will attract things that they cannot attract. You cannot afford to pass through life blind. When Elisha and his servant were surrounded by enemy forces, his servant was perplexed but Elisha held his peace. Then, Elisha prayed God to open his eyes and he saw that the armies of God surrounded them against the enemies. When God opens a man's eyes, he becomes aware of angelic help.

Quote for today:

Rupi Kaur.

2 Kings 6:15-20.

Prayer:
1. Lord, open my eyes to the superlative provisions you have made for my life.
2.May I always walk in the consciousness of angelic hosts around me.

THE FINAL TESTOur anchor scripture for today:"And he said, lay not your hand upon the lad, neither do you anything unto ...

THE FINAL TEST

Our anchor scripture for today:
"And he said, lay not your hand upon the lad, neither do you anything unto him: for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son from me."
(Gen.22:12).

Abraham remains an excellent example of a man who chose to obey God, even when it was neither convenient nor conventional. His journey started when he left his family and kindred. How many of us would abandon family for a journey to a "yet to be identified land"? Later, God asked him to let Ishmael and Hagar go. It pained him deeply because it concerned his son but he obeyed.

Now, God was placing a demand on Abraham to sacrifice Isaac to him. It was not just a test but the ultimate test of his faith and obedience. Abraham loved God enough not to withhold anything from him. Love is not measured by confessions but by sacrifice. He prepared Isaac on the altar and lifted up his hand to sacrifice him to God. A son born to him at 100 years old was not too dear for him to sacrifice to God. Lip service does not move God: sacrifice does.

God judges actions by intentions. So, though Abraham did not slay Isaac, God counted that he did, as we see In Hebrews 11:17. And God said: "It is now that I know that you fear God." My friend, it takes the fear of God to walk in perfect obedience to him. Do you fear God? What is that one thing that is very precious to you which you cannot withhold from him? What sacrifices are you making as a proof that you fear him? Is your faith tested and approved?

Our quote for today:
"Real magic can never be made by offering someone else's liver. You must tear out your own."
Peter Beagle

Further reading:
Psalms 50:5-6.

Prayer:
1. Lord, teach me to love you beyond lip service, deeper in sacrifice of self and things.
2. May I never fail any divine test, my father, that my fear of you will not be in doubt.

BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL GROWTH

Our anchor scripture for today:
"So the child grew and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel"
(Luke 1:80)

A new year is here! Praise the Lord for all His enduring mercies over us all. Having a new year without taking some fresh steps would definitely make the year look like the years before it. Imagine if ours was a world where preparation is not a necessary ingredient for great manifestations, every one of us would be a celebrity. You still remember that cliche of "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride"? Personal development is crucial to success.

Our anchor scripture for today takes a deep look into the life of John the Baptist. Not minding all the prophecies hanging on his neck, he clearly understood that preparation precedes manifestation. For that, he intentionally stayed put in the deserts, giving undivided attention to every aspect of his life in readiness for the day of his taking his world by storm. He understood that to avoid melting like wax before men, he needed to wax strong in spirit. Success is not what you get but who you become.

It takes a strong spirit to lead a remarkable life. No matter the course of life that you are in pursuit of, it would collapse like a pack of cards unless you have developed your spirit to power it, even in the absence of encouraging results. For 2021 to be an amazing year for you, it is a must to note the areas where you need to grow and wax strong. Be specific about the results you want to see and sit down in the 'deserts' away from distractions to work it out. God is interested in your all round success.

Our quote for today:
"Investing in yourself is the best investment you will ever make. It will not only improve your life, it will improve the lives of all those around you.”
Robin Sharma

Further reading:
Judges 11:1-8.

Prayer;
1. Lord, I thank you for the privilege of seeing a new year.
2. I take full, personal responsibility for my personal growth and development in all the areas of my pursuit.

WHEN ORDINARY MEN PRAY

Our anchor scripture for today:
"Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years."
(James 5:17, Berean Study Bible)

I know that you know pretty much about prayer but today, there is something God wants you to know and add to your body of knowledge on the subject of prayer. Number one: men cease to be ordinary when they engage seriously in prayers. Take another look at our anchor scripture for today: James needed to remind us that Elijah was a human being like you and me. Why did we need that reminder? Let's talk!

You will agree with me that it is not ordinary for rain not to fall for three and a half years. That's quite huge, if you asked me. The amazing thing about it was that it was no coincidence of history. Everyone knew that it didn't rain for forty two months because a guy in town prayed. To call such a man ordinary would mean to insult your sensibilities. That's far from being ordinary, you doubt it, you do it. Never you look at a praying man and call him ordinary. A praying man is not your mate!

What's my point? Ordinary men cease to be ordinary when they pray. Permit me to call prayer a "step up" into the supernatural. When men pray, they bring the realms of God to overturn everything ordinary. They impose the heavenly on the earthly and suspend impossibilities. After all, the scriptures already told us that "With God, nothing shall be impossible"(Luke 1:37). Friend, you can so step up in prayer that our world would need a reminder that you were just human like everyone else.

Our quote for today:
"True prayer is neither a mere mental exercise nor a vocal performance. It is far deeper than that - it is spiritual transaction with the Creator of Heaven and Earth."
Charles Spurgeon

Further reading:
1 Kings 17:1-7.

Prayer:
1. Lord, help me to explore the powers of the supernatural by engaging them in prayer.
2. May there be a mark in history that I was no ordinary man.

CLEAN GROUND

Our anchor scripture for today:
"Not a word failed of any good thing which the LORD had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass".
(Josh.21:45).

Trust is earned. It cannot be given in a vacuum. Every covenant is based on promises. The sustainability of such covenants is determined by the keeping of such promises. God made many promises to Israel as He entered into covenant with them. The good news is that via Abraham, every family of the earth could become beneficiaries of that covenant.

Israel went through thick and thin that made it most unlikely for those promises to be actualized. Worse still, they violated their own side of the bargain over and over. Such moral failures on Israel's part could have provided reasonable grounds of excuse for God to fail them. He kept to this word: "If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is".(2 Tim. 2:13).

Israel took a count and discovered that not one promise of God fell to the ground. They bore witness that God says what He means and means what He says. Wow! God is trustworthy, my friend. His bargains fail not. Is there any area of your life where you need a change? Today, you can locate a promise of God that covers it and hinge your faith on it. His words do not fail. Like I always say, God's cheque is as reliable as cash. Rejoice at His promises over your life.

Our quote for today:
"God’s faithfulness is the one constant in the equation. He is the Rock on which we stand".
Paul Silway

Further reading:
2 Cor.1:20.

Prayer:
1. Lord, I thank you for none of your promises over my life would fall to the ground.
2. I rest on your promises knowing that even when I fail you, you cannot fail me.

GOD BEARS NO GRUDGES

Our anchor scripture for today:
" He will again have compassion on us, And will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins Into the depths of the sea."
(Micah 7:19).

God is love! One of the major ways He expresses His love towards is the forgiveness of our sins. Sin is a disaster. Just imagine if there was no forgiveness of sins in God. We would be all dead without hope. The greatest joy we ought to have is that our sins are forgiven by God in Christ. Hallelujah!

Now, we must understand that the love of God does not mean that our sins do not exist, anymore. The reality is that God does not hold our sins against us, any longer. When He forgives, He forgives completely. By His divine choice, He takes our sins very far away from us. "As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us." (Psalms 103:12).

Satan's strategy against us is to use the guilt of sin to hold us down from enjoying the love of God. Sometimes, we begin to reason that our sins are responsible for any affliction that befalls us. Hey, friend! God holds no grudges. He took our sins far away from us, dumping them in the bottom of the ocean. Do not go fishing for your sins. Declare it loudly that your sins are totally forgiven by God in Christ!

Our quote for today:
"Oh, hour of forgiven sin, moment of perfect pardon, our soul shall never forget you while, within you, life and being find immortality!"
Charles Spurgeon.

Further reading:
Colossians 2:9-15.

Prayer:
1. Lord, I thank you for my redemption in you, even the forgiveness of my sins.
2. May I walk daily in the fullness of your love,.knowing that you hold no grudges against me.

RESPECTING DIVINE PROCESS

Our anchor scripture for today:
"And the Lord thy God will put out those nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee".
(Deut.7:22).

What God can do is limitless but what He would do per time is guided and guarded by His wisdom. To align God's acts to His eternal purpose, He passes us through a process. There are a few times that God acts instantaneously, giving us mind boggling miracles. Our testimonies go loud for everyone to hear at such times. Just imagine how the Jews felt when God divided the red sea and destroyed Pharaoh's army. Songs were composed on the spot.

The Jews may have expected that instant miracles would trail their paths from the start to the finish of their wilderness journey. As much as that would have fed their emotions, it would surely have defeated the wisdom of God. They had to learn that the God of instant wonders is also the God of little by little principle. God, by His love, promised to drive away all their enemies for them to inherit and occupy their lands. God's wisdom ensured that it did not happen in a day.

The Jews lacked the capacity to inhabit the entire land God promised them at that point. Had God driven all their enemies in one day, wild beasts would have taken over uninhabited lands and could devour them. So, their occupation of the promised land was going to happen in batches. Friend, God loves you eternally. There is nothing He cannot do for you on the spot but His wisdom would dictate His timing. Learn not to thwart divine process. It will help you develop the capacity to carry the weight of God's load of blessings.

Our quote for today:
"When God is "slow", trust the wait and enjoy the beauty of becoming".
Noble Udochukwu Onwumere

John 11:1-15.

Prayer:
1. Lord, I yield to your wisdom that determines every season of my life.
2. Help me to develop the capacity necessary to handle the weight of the answers coming my way.

CASUAL WORSHIP WILL NOT DO

Our anchor scripture for today:
"Give unto the LORD the glory due to His name; Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness."
(Psalms 29:2)

We all agree that God is worthy of our worship and praise. That means God has a worth. Then, the question is:"What is the worth of God in your life? The answer to this question by every individual would be the determinant of the quality of worship and praise that will flow from our hearts to Him. If your answer does not leave you in awe of Him, it is definitely a wrong answer.

What does God mean to you? To give Him the glory that is due to His name is to give Him what He truly deserves. To offer Him anything less than that is to put Him below His eminence and glory. Thus, you must decide God's worth in your life to know what quality of service you owe Him. Yes, you owe God worship.

One major reason we owe God worship is that He made us. We are the works of His hands. David the psalmist put it thus:"All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee."(Psalms 145:10). So, our worship is a debt we owe and not a favour we give. From today, let our worship of God be an expression of His priceless worth in our lives. Nothing else would do.

Our quote for today:
"Worship is the proper response of all moral, sentient beings to God, ascribing all honour and worth to their creator-God precisely because he is worthy, delightfully so."
Donald Arthur Carson

Further reading:
1 Chronicles 16:23-34.

Prayer:
1. Lord, help me to appreciate the more your worth in my life to provoke in me the worship that is due to your holy name.
2. I refuse to be a victim of casual worship of you, knowing that it is unacceptable.

HANDLING OFFENCES

Our anchor scripture for today:
"Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
(Romans 12:17).

I want you to understand that Christianity is not an endorsement of your natural instincts but a revelation of God's kind of life. A good understanding of that fact will help you in your life journey. How natural it is to respond to hurts by hurts, evil by evil and insults by insults. Sometimes, it feels liberating to pay people in their own coins but we must never bow to the pressure of revenge.

We live in a world of offences. No matter where and how you stand, offences must locate you. To nurture to give it back is so natural that anything to the contrary hurts real deep. When you have capacity to reply an offence with an offence, it feels justifiable to do just that, or even worse. Many believe that revenge is sweet. They tell you that action and reaction are equal and opposite. My friend, to repay evil for evil is a bad currency that a Christian is not permitted to transact with.

God's standards are way different. He wants us to "dislocate" any offence that locates us. We must make up our minds to be ruled by the word of God instead of to be ruled by our natural instincts. To be in Christ is to learn of Him and copy(reproduce) His life. We are to 'ceasefire" when we are shot at. If we must respond to the shots, then, they must be exchanged with 'love shots". That's it! Not the easy way but definitely the God's way.

Our quote for today:
"The best revenge is to be unlike him who performed the injury."
Marcus Aurelius.

Further reading:
Gen.50:15-21.

Prayer:
1. Lord, as I feed on your word daily, I refuse to be ruled by my natural instincts.
2.The spirit of revenge will never have a grip on me.

GOD WILL ADD TO YOU

Our anchor scripture for today:
"I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain..."
(Is.45:19)

Think of a relationship with benefits and you think of a relationship with God. No man comes to God without being raised by Him. No, not one. He has good thoughts for everyone that comes to Him which He translates to plans. One of the scriptures that best captures this is Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.".

You see! God got you covered. As you embrace His will for your life, He begins to unfold His plans little by little. Those plans are tailored to do you good and not to harm you. You can't ever go wrong following Him. Once you commit to God, He commits much more to you. Fortunately for us all, our unfaithfulness does not alter His commitment to us. " If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself."- 2 Tim 2:13.

God's portion for those who serve Him is mega. He shields them from the wicked schemes of their enemies, takes pleasure in their prosperity, takes killer sicknesses and diseases very far away from them and grants them peace beyond human comprehension. Who would not serve a God like that? He demands that we faint not in our worship of Him and service to Him. Our reward is huge. Accelerate in service to Him, today.

Our quote for today:
"The highest reward for labour to God is not what you get but what you become."
Noble U. Onwumere.

Further reading:
1 Cor.15:58.

Prayer:
1. Lord, thank you for being faithful to me all the times I was not faithful to you.
2.Help me to realise that getting lost in the service of you is no loss.

YOU ARE UNTOUCHABLE

Our anchor scripture for today:
"He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes, Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm."
(1 Chron.16:21-22).

Not all trees can be touched, not to talk of to be cut down. Growing up in the village, we got to know that some trees, and even some lands, were dedicated to idols and deities. Thus, they carry an unwritten warning of "Touch Not!". Some have attempted to violate these trees and lands at the expense of their lives. They got struck with strange diseases and died, miserably. When other trees are cut for wood, such trees tower without a fear.

My friend, God is the Father of all spirits, according to Hebrews 12:9. He owns us for His pleasure and service. To leave us without guard is to risk His service. For that, He places His eternal weight of glory upon us. He lets no man violate us. He rebukes those in authority who try to use the paraphernalia of their positions to threaten us. He roars in their ears, even in their dreams, to avoid us. Hallelujah!

To belong to a deity and live in fear is an error that must be deleted. Now, you understand why all through scripture, God keeps saying to us, over and again, to fear not. Fear is not only an expression of ignorance of the arsenals of heaven under a divine charge to guard you, it also insults the limitless powers of the Lord, your keeper. We all, like David, can boldly say: "The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"(Psalms27:1).

Our quote for today:
"A God wise enough to create me and the world I live in is wise enough to watch out for me."
Philip Yancey.

Further reading:
Psalms 27:1-7.

Prayer:
1. Lord, let me grow in confidence daily on your power to protect me from all evil.
2. As I always serve you, you will always save me.

NO ROOM FOR JESUS

Our anchor scripture for today:
"And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn".
(Luke 2:7).

It was a census season. Everywhere in Bethlehem was jammed. All the hotels on the land were fully booked. VIPS were accorded a pride of place all over the town. How frustrating it must have been for Mary with a full term pregnancy. Labour set in shortly after their arrival to Bethlehem. Led by Joseph, they knocked the doors of places of lodging in vain. A busy world shut Jesus out from being birthed in a decent environment.

Born in a dirty stable, dressed in swaddling cloths, Mary made him a crib in the feeding trough of animals. The hustle and bustle of his world swallowed up the event of his birth. A world in dire need of a saviour shut him out as everyone went in search of his own needs. Only animals heralded his birth but for the announcement of the angels. Our busy world had no room for her saviour to be born.

Today, our world, busting with many activities, still has little or no room for Jesus. Worse still, the church shuts him out with ceaseless but needless activities. We have our programmes all lined up that it would derail us if we dared to create a room for him. He becomes an observer instead of Lord. If only we knew that he deserves all of our priorities. Will you make room for Jesus in your life, today and everyday?

Our quote for today:
"People here are funny. They work so hard at living, they forget how to live".
Robert Riskin.

Rev 3:20.

Prayer:
1. Lord, help me to give you the pride of place in my daily living.
2. May nothing draw my attention away from you.
