3. Mentorship

- Get mentors that are in line with the results that you seek. (Whether in your profession, business, other areas of your life)

- Overcome your pride and low self-esteem that holds you from submitting and learning from others.

- One mentor should not suit all areas of your life; you can have for different areas.

- You may need to pay for mentorship (Dont be too stingy towards your success)

So, where can you build your skills?

- Online educational platforms. Udemy, edX etc
- Books about the skill you want to build.
- Video platforms. YouTube etc.
- Learning groups like this.
- Paid Trainings, webinars or coaching sessions.

How can you up your career (profession or business) game?

- Have a clear goal for your career...with the goal, add strategy.

- Re-tool or transition into a new career path.

- Become part of professional organisations and groups.

- Leverage on social media for personal branding and providing solutions to others.

How do you get mentors?

- Search them out on social media, learn from their free stuff online.

- Buy one or two of their product, afterwards send them a message asking a question from the product and then ask if they can mentor you.

- Buy his or her book and learn their process.

- Share, Comment, Like, Retweet until they notice you...then ask.

*A little about career:*

Career

- Build a career that allows you to learn and grow. By now you should know that your growth and learning is in your hands.

- Build a career that allows you to contribute to the lives of other individuals or institutions.

- Dont just jump into any career, your career path must be designed to maximise your potential.

- Following a career path is stress free and worth it when it connects to your passion, purpose or assignment.

- Career transition is a possibility, but you must have a plan.

*(For more on this, you may need to join our masterclass on Self Discovery and Purpose Clarity (Contact 08182286260))*

*A little about skills:*

Skills
- You don't just learn any and every skill, you must ascertain that you need the skills today or in the future.

- Some skills are sector specific (a lawyer has no business learning how to carry out operations)

- Some skill are relevant across board. (Interpersonal skills, marketing skills, etc)

- You should learn skills that are rewardable.

- It is one thing to learn a skill; learned skills must be deployed. (To prevent information overload)

These 3 things I shared with you can and should be applied to every facet of your life.

They are fundamental to your success, relevance and value in this present time.

3 Quick definitions:

1. Skill is *the ability to do something well; expertise.*

2. Career is *an occupation undertaken for a significant period of a person's life and with opportunities for progress.*

3. Mentorship *is the guidance provided by a mentor, especially an experienced person*

And this definitions apply not to just "career people" or "job seekers"... This cuts across board for those building professional careers or building careers in entrepreneurship.

Like I said earlier *deep down, we all desire to provide value for people*.....and that is where our *relevance, reward and contribution lies*

Before I list them, I want you to know something.

God is a God of value addition.

- At the depth of our relevance as guys, we want to create value for others; either for profits or for pay.

- That is why we go to school, get a job, learn a skill, start a business, build a career etc. There is a connection between our sense of relevance and the need to add value.

Now the 3 things you must note from the story:

1. The wood cutter was functioning on past skills and realities.

The present reality in the world has made some people irrelevant, jobless or without customers. Those who have been able to adapt, re-tool and learn have been able to take advantage of this times.

The woodcutter could have either sharpened his tools (developed his skill) or gone for a chain saw (learnt skills beyond what was available)

2. The wood cutter could have gotten more people to cut with him.

The present realities in business or career has shown that we must leverage on the skills, knowledge, experience of others.

People who have the axe or the chain saw that can help us do more and get more results in good time.

3. The wood cutter could have asked for advice (mentorship)

You'll continue going in circles if you do not have a system that allows you to receive feedback, help, advice and inspiration in good time.

If the wood cutter was open to mentorship, he will have a learnt a lot in good time.

Very motivated by the boss’ words, the woodcutter tried harder the next day but he only could bring 17 trees.
The third day he tried even harder, but he only could bring 10 trees.
Day after day he was bringing less and less trees.

“I must be losing my strength”, the woodcutter thought. He went to the boss and apologized, saying that he could not understand what was going on.

*“When was the last time you sharpened your axe?” the boss asked.

“Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut trees.”

Many of us are like the wood cutter, we've been busy cutting trees that we've not given ourselves enough time to sharpen our axe.

If the wood cutter had continued at that rate, at one point, he wouldn't be able to cut any trees.

*There are 3 things that you must note from this story (you must never forget them):*

Let's start with a story
“Once upon a time, a woodcutter asked for a job with a timber merchant, and he got it.
The pay was really good and so were the work conditions. For that reason, the woodcutter was determined to do his best. His boss gave him an axe and showed him the area where he was supposed to work.

The first day, the woodcutter brought 21 trees.
“Congratulations,” the boss said. “Go on that way!”
