YOU ARE NOT LATE — TRUST GOD'S TIMELINE
Main Text: Ecclesiastes 3:1 — "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven."
TRUE-LIFE STORY: A JOURNEY THAT REFUSED TO END
A Nigerian man identified as shared a powerful testimony about his journey through life.
At 33, despite having a first-class degree, he was still sleeping on his parents' couch in Ebute Metta, trying to figure life out.
At 35, he got married and began married life in a tiny room and parlour in Mushin.
At 36, he finally got his dream job.
At 38, he started a business, but it failed woefully.
He tried again in his 40s and failed again.
At 46, he opened an art gallery at Adeniran Ogunsanya, Lagos. It failed.
At 47, he returned to the yoghurt business. It failed again.
At 48, they started again.
Then, almost at 50, he was compulsorily retired from his job.
What looked like an ending became another beginning.
Instead of allowing retirement to destroy his confidence, he went fully into the yoghurt business.
At almost 52, he relocated to the United Kingdom.
By 54, he said the business had recorded over ₦2 billion in sales.
His story carries a powerful lesson:
Your present condition is not necessarily the conclusion of your story.
Some people bloom early. Others bloom later.
Some people receive their breakthrough at 25.
Some at 35.
Some at 50.
And some receive what they have prayed for even later.
Therefore, never allow somebody else's success to convince you that God has forgotten you.
One of the greatest dangers in life is comparison.
You look at somebody who graduated before you.
You see somebody getting married before you.
You see somebody buying a house.
Somebody starts a business.
Somebody gets promoted.
Somebody relocates abroad.
Somebody's ministry grows.
Somebody's children succeed.
And suddenly you begin asking:
"Lord, what about me?"
But hear this:
God does not use another person's calendar to determine your season.
A tree does not become a tree because another tree has become one.
A seed has its own process.
There is a time for planting.
There is a time for watering.
There is a time for growth.
And there is a time for harvest.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 says:
"He hath made every thing beautiful in his time."
Not necessarily your neighbour's time.
Not necessarily the world's time.
But His time.
Your assignment is not to compete with somebody else's timeline.
Your assignment is to remain faithful to God while He writes your story.
KEY POINT 1: DO NOT LET COMPARISON STEAL YOUR PEACE
2 Corinthians 10:12 says:
"But they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise."
Comparison can make you despise what God is doing in your own life.
You may be looking at somebody's chapter 20 while you are still on chapter 5.
You don't know what they went through before that chapter.
You don't know their battles.
You don't know their sacrifices.
You don't know their timing.
And you certainly don't know what God is doing behind the scenes.
Question to reflect on:
Are you grateful for what God is doing in your life, or are you becoming bitter because of what He is doing in somebody else's life?
Say aloud:
"My journey is different. My season will come. I will not compare myself with others."
KEY POINT 2: DELAY IS NOT ALWAYS DENIAL
Abraham waited for the promised son.
Genesis 21:2 says:
"For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him."
Notice those words: "At the set time."
God had spoken.
But there was a waiting period between the promise and the manifestation.
Joseph had a dream as a young man.
But before the palace came the pit.
Before the throne came slavery.
Before leadership came prison.
David was anointed king.
But he still had to pass through the wilderness.
Your waiting season does not mean God has abandoned you.
Sometimes God is preparing you for what you are praying for.
Ask yourself:
What if the delay is developing something in me that I will need when the answer arrives?
KEY POINT 3: FAILURE DOES NOT HAVE TO BE YOUR FINAL CHAPTER
Proverbs 24:16 says:
"For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again."
The man in this story failed repeatedly.
Business failed.
Art gallery failed.
Yoghurt business failed.
But he kept starting again.
That is the spirit of perseverance.
You may have failed before.
You may have lost money.
You may have lost a job.
You may have experienced rejection.
You may have made decisions you regret.
But failure is an event, not an identity.
You failed at something.
That does not mean you are a failure.
Micah 7:8 says:
"When I fall, I shall arise."
Don't build a permanent residence inside a temporary defeat.
Get up.
Learn.
Adjust.
Pray.
Try again.
KEY POINT 4: GOD CAN TURN AN ENDING INTO A NEW BEGINNING
Sometimes what looks like the end is actually a divine transition.
Joseph lost his coat but eventually gained a position.
David left the palace because of Saul, but the wilderness became part of his preparation for kingship.
Ruth lost her husband but found a new chapter in Bethlehem.
Job lost almost everything, but his story did not end with loss.
Job 42:12 says:
"So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning."
Your latter days can still be greater.
Your past does not have to dictate your future.
Maybe the door that closed was painful.
Maybe the job you lost was painful.
Maybe the business that failed embarrassed you.
Maybe the relationship that ended broke your heart.
But don't assume that because one chapter ended, the whole book has ended.
God is still writing.
KEY POINT 5: KEEP LEARNING WHILE YOU ARE WAITING
Being in a waiting season does not mean being in an idle season.
Keep learning.
Keep developing.
Keep praying.
Keep building relationships.
Keep improving your skills.
Keep serving God.
Keep preparing.
David was tending sheep before he was tending a nation.
Joseph was managing things in prison before he managed Egypt.
Your preparation may be happening in a place nobody celebrates.
Galatians 6:9 says:
"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."
There is a phrase there that we must not miss: "In due season."
Your responsibility is faithfulness.
God's responsibility is the timing of the harvest.
KEY POINT 6: DO NOT ALLOW SOCIAL MEDIA TO BECOME YOUR MEASURING STICK
Today, people post achievements but rarely post the years of struggle behind them.
You see the wedding but not the years of waiting.
You see the house but not the sacrifices.
You see the business success but not the failed businesses.
You see the international relocation but not the years of preparation.
You see the harvest but not the seed.
Therefore, be careful what you use to measure your life.
Galatians 6:4 says:
"But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another."
Celebrate others without condemning yourself.
Be inspired by their testimony without turning it into an accusation against God.
KEY POINT 7: YOUR AGE DOES NOT CANCEL GOD'S PURPOSE
Moses was 80 when God called him into a major assignment.
Exodus 7:7 says:
"And Moses was fourscore years old... when they spake unto Pharaoh."
Caleb was 85 when he declared that he was still ready to possess his mountain.
Joshua 14:10-12 records Caleb saying:
"I am this day fourscore and five years old... give me this mountain."
He did not say: "I'm too old."
He said: "Give me my mountain."
Don't allow age to become an excuse for unbelief.
You may not be where you thought you would be by now.
But if you are still alive, there is still purpose.
KEY POINT 8: GOD'S TIMELINE IS BETTER THAN YOUR PRESSURE
Habakkuk 2:3 says:
"Though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry."
There is a difference between waiting and wasting.
While you wait, God can be preparing you.
While you wait, God can be connecting you.
While you wait, God can be correcting you.
While you wait, God can be strengthening you.
While you wait, God can be positioning you.
Don't destroy tomorrow because you are frustrated with today.
Your story is still being written.
QUESTIONS FOR PERSONAL REFLECTION
1. Am I allowing another person's success to make me despise my own journey?
2. What have I learned from the failures I have experienced?
3. Have I mistaken delay for denial?
4. What preparation can I undertake while waiting for my next season?
5. What dream have I abandoned because of age or disappointment?
6. If God told me that my breakthrough was still ahead, would I continue believing?
7. Am I celebrating other people's victories without comparing them with my life?
8. What would I attempt again if I knew failure was not the end?
9. What area of my life requires patience right now?
10. Can I honestly say, "Lord, I trust Your timing"?
CALL TO ACTION
Stop measuring your life by somebody else's clock.
Stop calling yourself late because someone else arrived early.
Stop allowing social media to dictate your worth.
Stop allowing yesterday's failure to cancel tomorrow's possibility.
Keep learning.
Keep praying.
Keep trying.
Keep serving.
Keep believing.
Keep moving.
And when you fall, get up again.
Your story may not look like somebody else's story.
It doesn't have to.
You are not late. You are still writing your story with God.
SALVATION APPEAL
But there is one timeline that matters more than every earthly achievement:
Your relationship with Jesus Christ.
What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul?
Mark 8:36 asks:
"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"
You may be successful in business and still be spiritually empty.
You may have money and still lack peace.
You may achieve your dreams and still be separated from God.
Today, Jesus is calling you.
You don't need to wait until you become perfect.
Come to Him now.
Romans 10:9 says that if you confess Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
If you are ready, pray sincerely:
"Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I acknowledge that I am a sinner. Forgive my sins. I believe that You died for me and rose again. I surrender my life to You. Be my Lord and Saviour. Help me to live for You from today. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus' name, Amen."
If you prayed that prayer sincerely, begin your new journey with Christ today.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Father, deliver me from the pressure of comparison and help me to trust Your timing for my life, in Jesus' name.
2. Father, give me grace to remain faithful during seasons when I cannot yet see the results of my labour, in Jesus' name.
3. Every spirit of discouragement telling me that I am late or forgotten, I reject you, in Jesus' name.
4. Father, turn every failure in my life into wisdom, experience and a testimony, in Jesus' name.
5. Every door that You have ordained for my next season, let it open at the appointed time, in Jesus' name.
6. Father, give me strength to rise again from every disappointment and setback, in Jesus' name.
7. Lord, connect me with the right people, opportunities and resources for my divine assignment, in Jesus' name.
8. Father, restore every good thing I have lost according to Your perfect will, in Jesus' name.
9. Lord, help me not to abandon the purpose You have placed inside me because of delay, rejection or age, in Jesus' name.
10. Father, let my latter days be greater than my former days, and let my life become a testimony of Your faithfulness, in Jesus' name.
CONCLUDING PRAYER
Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray for everyone reading or listening to this message.
Where they have been discouraged, give them strength.
Where they have failed, give them wisdom to rise again.
Where they have been delayed, give them patience.
Where they have been rejected, remind them that their worth comes from You.
Where they have been comparing themselves with others, give them peace.
Father, open the doors that You have ordained for them.
Give them courage to begin again.
Give them grace to keep learning, keep growing and keep moving.
Let their hidden seasons produce visible testimonies.
Let their latter days be greater than their former days.
And when their testimony comes, let them remember that it was Your grace that brought them through.
May nobody die in the middle of their assignment.
May nobody abandon their purpose because of temporary disappointment.
May every person reading this understand that they are not late—they are still in God's hands.
In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
THE ECHO
You are not late.
If this message encouraged you, remember it when you see somebody succeeding before you.
When you are tempted to compare, remember: your timeline is different.
When you fail, remember: failure is not your final chapter.
When you are delayed, remember: God makes everything beautiful in His time.
And when your breakthrough finally comes, remember the people who are still waiting—and encourage them.
Because one day, somebody may need your story to survive their waiting season.
So keep learning.
Keep trying.
Keep failing forward.
Keep believing.
Keep moving.
Your story is not over.
You are not late.
God is still writing.
And the best chapters of your story may still be ahead.
