Topic: The Works of Christ (4) - His Ascension and Reign (Lordship)
Scripture: Acts 1:1-11; Hebrews 4:14

Jesus broke the power of death and came out of the grave.

Why did He leave?

He left to keep His word. John 16:28.

His ascension was like a homecoming. He had completed the work here.

WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF HIS LEAVING?

1) To return to the Father in fulfillment of His Word and to begin the next phase of His finished work.

2) To be exalted and to sit at God’s right hand. Right hand is a metaphor for sitting in a supreme position, in a place of honor. Philippians 2:9.

This means that you are also seated with the Father. You should reign as He reigns.

Christianity is not an escape from trouble but a guarantee that you’d be standing when it comes.

3) He left because of His high priest duty and His intercessory ministry. Hebrews 7:25; Romans 8:34

You should know that you are on God’s mind full time. Your High Priest is interceding for you.

4) To prepare a place for believers. John 14:2-3

5) To establish and exercise His supreme victory and authority on behalf of the church and for the church. Ephesians 4:8; 1 Peter 3:22; Colossians 1:13; Galatians 3:13

We do not fight for victory; we fight from the victory Christ has accomplished.

6) To usher in the full dispensation of the Holy Spirit. John 14:16-18; John 16:7
Becoming a Christian does not make you disadvantaged. The Holy Spirit is the advantage in your life; He is your strengthener, comforter, helper. In all you do, depend on the Holy Spirit.
