THE BODY OF CHRIST 4

UNITY OF THE SPIRIT VERSUS ECUMENISM

Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism (Ephesians 4:3-5, NKJV)


There is such a thing as the unity of the spirit! It is the unity of believers in Christ that is exclusively sponsored by the Holy Spirit. Nothing more, nothing less!

Each time man tampers with the One Spirit, faith, baptism and drink by creating unions in the flesh, what results is known as ecumenism. Ecumenism seems like a big word, but its application is even more sinister. It disregards the role of the Holy Spirit in genuinely constituting the body of Christ and instead relies on human effort to achieve unity. So, instead of having a body of believers united in Christ by the Holy Spirit, we have a contraption of people politicking for religious relevance.

The number one rule in continental football tournaments is that for a team to even be considered to play, it must first be based in the continent of interest. For instance AFCON (which starts in a few days ) is exclusively for African teams.

European teams cannot participate in AFCON —no matter how much they desire to. Ecumenism is when rules are trashed and South American teams play in European tournaments and African teams play in South American tournaments. It is when goats pretend to lay eggs and chickens pretend to calve! It is when the body of Christ accepts the fellowship of those who are not born again, who have not been baptized by the One Spirit of God and have not drunk of the same Spirit. It is called THE BODY OF CHRIST for a reason: it is believers who are constituted in Christ by the Holy Spirit!

THE BODY OF CHRIST 3

Membership in the body of Christ cannot be achieved and/or sponsored by human effort. Just like no one can get to God the Father without first going through Jesus Christ (John 14:6), so it is impossible for anyone to become a member of the body of Christ without first going through the Holy Spirit. The baptism of the Holy Spirit forms the body of Christ.

The Holy Spirit, who is the One Spirit of God, baptizes all those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and are saved into Christ so that they can become one in Christ.

At salvation, apart from justification and regeneration that happen, the baptism by the one Spirit of God also happens. This baptism essentially dissolves all the extant differences of the believers in the flesh and equalizes them into one indivisible whole in Christ.

Consequently, only those who are saved by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ can become active members of His body. Granting membership into the body of Christ is the Holy Spirit’s exclusive business. This is why nothing done in the flesh can approximate to membership in the body of Christ.

The principle of baptism seals this membership in which the Holy Spirit immerses the believers into Christ while they all drink into the One Spirit by whom they are baptized. This means the believers’ environment (Christ) and content (the Spirit) are the same. This is the reason the believer can receive the gifts and fruits of the Spirit.

Every believer must experience the baptism of the Holy Ghost to be a part of the body of Christ. The formation of the body of Christ in principle and practice is both championed and coordinated by the Holy Ghost, one hundred percent. There is no space for human input in the technology used by the Holy Ghost to shape the church.

The Holy Ghost works tirelessly and delicately, to ensure every constituent part of the body of Christ goes through Him first. The most minuscule trace of humanity spoils this arrangement.
