Evang. Peter Onah

Evang. Peter Onah If all I have is Jesus in my entire life it's all enough for me.

O healer of souls, we come to you, Lord, desiring that you would forgive us our sins and heal us from the harm those sins have done to us spiritually. We know that you will not turn away the truly penitent man but will hear him and bury his sins in the depths of the deepest sea. We know you will cast our confessed and forgiven sins behind your back and hurl them into the land of forgetfulness forever. Help us to come to you in true repentance and with faith in your merciful nature. Amen.๐Ÿ™

HOW DO YOU WANT TO BE PAID
Romans 6:21-23

We are all familiar with the phrase above, "The wages of sin is death." Have you ever given it serious thought? Maybe you weren't even aware of where the phrase came from? There are so many saying that come from the Bible, we can forget. Paul talks a lot about the new life we have in Christ as opposed to the old life we had under the law, and a life of sin. He also speaks about living in the flesh and living in the spirit. Living in the flesh is pretty self-explanatory and includes most of the sins we commit whether against the commandments or the seven deadlies. Living in the spirit means living a life of virtue instead of vice. The one who lives in the spirit is prudent, works for justice, doesn't overindulge in either food or drink and has the strength to resist temptation. We are called to love others, but we are also called to take care of the body God has given us. Taking unnecessary chances with our lives or our health is not living in the spirit either. We are body and spirit, so we also need to take care of our souls. Just as our bodies need the proper fuel and exercise, so do our souls. We need to fuel our souls with the food of prayer and exercise them with doing good deeds. It is up to us to decide how we will live and also how we will spend eternity. I know which one I prefer.

The Lord Jesus Christ is our hiding place. Psalm 119:114

There is so much thrown at us in modern life. How can we keep our faith under all the stress? God's word is our refuge from this world and anything it can do to us. There is nothing he cannot protect us from.

THE FOOLISHNESS OF GREED Luke12:13-15

This passage precedes one of my favorite parables. It tells of a rich man whose harvest is so abundant he needs to build extra barns to hold it. He never thinks about sharing his abundance with the poor. That night he dies with his barns full and his soul empty. What profit was there in his greed? I have never understood the need for billions of dollars in the bank, building interest when it could be used for good. How much money does anyone really need? Now, I know that there are many wealthy people who establish foundations to support people in poorer countries, or who work to bring water or food to others, who establish scholarships for the poor and underprivileged. But I also know that there are many who hoard what they have. In another Gospel passage, Jesus talks about the widow who contributes all she has while the wealthy man gives a pittance of what he has. I had a friend who ministered in two communities. One had a number of wealthy parishioners while the other was supported by people of more moderate means. I bet you can guess which contributed a greater percent to their parish! If you guessed the one of more moderate means, you would be correct. But the wealthier parish was much more demanding of his time and attention. Greed can be an ugly failing, while generosity is always appreciated. A generous spirit actually shows in a person's face because they are happier. They don't live in fear that someone will rob them! I don't know about you, but if I'm going to have lines on my face, I prefer the smile ones to the frowns! And another little story of myself in terms of giving was, when I was operating my business all of a sudden I lost everything because I was not having knowledge of tithes so I was not consistent in it and it was out of ignorance so when the devil strucked I lost everything and God did not join hand to fight for me in that aspect because He wanted to use that as a lesson for me to learn from.

WE DON'T KNOW GOD'S TIMING
Luke 18:3-5

There is a story about St. Monica, the mother of St. Augustine who is said to have prayed for him for forty years before he accepted Christianity. He later became one of the earliest and most influential theologians. Her prayers were answered, although I'm sure she would have liked it to have happened in less time. I think the message for this passage is that we shouldn't give up. Of course, it does make a difference if we are praying for something that is not going to advance God's plan. After all, in Matthew's Gospel he tells us that we need to seek the Kingdom of God first. God knows what we need and what will be best for us, but we do need to keep praying. We need to pray for our country, we need to pray for our elected leaders, whether we agree with them or not, and pray for Christians the world over. And we shouldn't stop praying just because things don't seem to be happening quickly enough for us. We don't know God's timing. Remember that the Jewish people prayed for many years for a Messiah, but they had to wait until the time was right. We have to have patience as well as perseverance in our prayers. All we need to do is trust that God knows what's best. It is important to pray that God's will be done in all situations. We often think we know what's best, however that's not always the case. Trust can be hard! Let us ask for God's guidance when we pray and not give up!

NOTHING IS HIDDEN FROM GOD
Luke 12:2-3

Little children who are just learning about unhappy parents try to hide what they do. They figure if it's hidden, they won't get punished. As adults, we can sometimes feel the same way about God. I have this feeling that one of the reasons teenagers or young adults who are testing the limits, avoid church because they don't feel comfortable in God's presence! Just like children, we can think we can hide from the Father. Not possible! Even in our daily lives, we know that when we do the wrong thing, we can be found out. People think that they can deny responsibility for their actions, but "the truth will out." The person who takes credit for a project at work, but others who know the truth will let the employer know. The person who denies responsibility runs into the same problem. There is always someone who knows the truth and will be happy to share it. When I was teaching, there was a very intelligent student who made some very bad choices and went about it in a not so intelligent manner. He was great on the computer at a time when most students were just at a beginning stage. Several students paid him for research papers. He looked up the material and printed out the papers. He made two very bad mistakes. First, he didn't think I would recognize the source of the material; and second, he printed them out with the same font. All of those involved got great big F's, and he got into serious trouble with his parents. Even if you don't get caught, God knows what you have done, and waits for you to confess and ask forgiveness.

O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing. Jeremiah 10:24

God is so great that if His anger were against you โ€ฆ well, you might be turned to nothing. We still need correction though, so the writer of this Psalm prayed that God would correct him, but not in His anger. Thankfully God is also gracious and loving. We should certainly be willing and ready to be corrected by the Lord.

Mark 6:34

And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

Jesus had compassion for people who had no one to lead them, to look to, to learn from. He saw their need for Him and was moved to teach them. Have you encountered anyone who is in need of teaching them about Jesus? Perhaps a young believer needs someone to walk alongside them and teach them about the faith. Just as Jesus had compassion on people, so we can, too. We can help teach people about Jesus who don't know anything or only know little about Him.

How I wish this life would not end so I can live it anyhow but since it has an end and also we're going to give an account for it so I don't have to.... so brethren live the life well and remember you don't own it so you can give the account of it well๐Ÿ“ข๐Ÿ””

Proverbs 14:12 (KJV) There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

DO NOT JUDGE

Romans 2:1-2

This is a pretty consistent theme in the New Testament. Jesus certainly makes it clear that judging is unacceptable. In more than one Gospel the message is clear: don't judge. We humans do it though! We judge for lots of reasons. One of the not so nice reasons is to make ourselves feel better. If we can judge someone to be worse than ourselves, it can make us feel superior. Often people caught doing something will turn and say that it's not as bad as what "so and so" does. Other times, we make a judgment and spread whatever we think we know about another's behavior as gossip. It gives us a sense of power to act like we "know" everything. And often we are wrong in our judgments. Spreading gossip can ruin a person's reputation often without any substance behind it. We also tend to make judgments based on color, race, gender, age, ethnicity, all sorts of things that bias us. If you were sick in a foreign country, would you trust the doctors? If you see a group of teenagers standing on a corner, do you feel safe? I have seen signs on stores prohibiting more than two teens in the store at the same time. Obvious judgment based on age. For many years, men were not allowed to teach primary grades for fear that they might be pedophiles. Women were not allowed to be firefighters or police officers โ€“ except in the vice squad or working with children! In some cultures age is considered a sign of wisdom, in others it is a sign of senility. Either way, sometimes the judgment may be right, sometimes not, so it's best not to judge at all. As Paul tells us, as Jesus tells us, just don't judge.
