TOPIC: MY INABILITY, HIS ABILITY
FOR READING & MEDITATION: MATTHEW 11: 28 - 29 TLB
28-29Come to me and I will give you rest—all of you who work so hard beneath a heavy yoke. Wear my yoke—for it fits perfectly—and let me teach you; for I am gentle and humble, and you shall find rest for your souls;
MEDITATE:
Yesterday, we reflected on the antidote to a life of crisis – the rest and peace that Jesus gives. After I gave my life to Jesus and was called into Ministry 47 years ago, I made up my mind not to work for myself but to rest in the Lord so that He can do His work through me. My argument then and now is this, If I can fend for myself, then I don't need God.
When you let God take over your inability, He will give you His ability. I told the Lord: "I don't want to live by human wisdom and do things informed by my own ways. I will follow the rules." I knew for sure that this might make me look foolish and my friends would berate me. But I needed to live in Christ and prove His faithfulness that without cutting corners, worrying and trying to play smart, I will be at rest, survive and not just survive but also prosper.
Sad to say, there are some Christians today including ministers of the gospel, who are not at rest. They look across the fence and see co - labourers from way back and it appears God is blessing them while they are still struggling. The temptation is to begin to have self-doubt. There are even some very young inexperienced ministers who want to become famous overnight. Such ones are never at rest; they are always worrying, trying short cuts. But the proper thing for you to do as a believer is to get into Christ and relax, realizing that God will take care of you as you labor in His vineyard. As a minister, you probably were not a lazy person before God called you into the ministry; you probably were busy earning your daily bread. Having told you to leave what you were doing to do His work, the Lord must and will take care of you. God is not unmindful of your needs; He is a responsible Father. Accept to be where He wants you to be and do what He wants you to do even if people call you a fool for Christ.
By the grace of God, I have personally done that for 47 years now and still counting and I can testify that it pays to be faithful. God will promote those He supports. It is only those who do not have God's approval that seek to promote themselves. Today, I am testifying that God has been faithful, in fact, more than faithful in keeping His promises and embarrassing me with His blessings. This principle does not only apply to those in ministry; it also applies to all believers. If you can rest in Christ, you will discover that God will not leave you to go through life alone.
VERSE OF THE DAY: “Take my yoke… and ye shall find rest unto your souls” [vs. 29].
QUOTE: “God is a responsible Father.”
PRAYER: I know I am not alone because You are a responsible Father. I will work and walk with You all the days of my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
