SERVE IN THE NAME OF CHRIST.
Colossians 3:12-17

In his volume entitled Celebration of Discipline, Richard Foster wrote on "The Discipline of Service." In one of his contrasts of self - righteous service with true service, he said " Self- righteous service is without sensitivity. It insists on meeting the need even when to do so would be destructive. True service can withhold the service as freely as perform it."

Our identity as God's chosen people should condition us to overcome the Adamic nature that manifest in self - righteous service
We are born with a self - centred and rebellious nature and unless we permit God to intervene, we will naturally become full of ourselves. We might go around thinking and believing that the world revolves around us. This leads to lack of compassion, impatience, pride and arrogance, bring blind to others' good service, seeing others as underlings, bring susceptible to flattery and listening to criticism, humility, gentleness, patience, tolerance, forgiveness and love. According to this passage, everyone that seeks to please God must walk in the way of Jesus Christ. We must imbibe godly virtues and bake them our lifestyle.

Above all, as believers, our words and actions must be Christ - like and they must bring glory to God. We must endeavour to dwell richly in the study of God's word and daily commune with Him. Remember that Christ forgave our sins and granted us victory over the power of sin and death. In like manner, we must learn to forgive those who have wronged us and put on love. When the peace if God rules your heart, then, you will serve God acceptably and live a life that brings glory to God.

Wisdom: Acceptable service to God is rooted in doing things that pleases God.
Food for Thought: Is ego, successes, flattery, bitterness and talents inhibiting your service to Christ?
Follow up Action: Strive to serve God both in words and actions.
Prayer: Lord Jesus purge me of pride and selfishness such that I shall henceforth serv

*SEVEN LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES TO LEARN FROM AN EAGLE AS YOU MOVE THIS 2017*

1. *Eagles fly Alone and at High Altitudes.*
They don't fly with sparrows, ravens, and other small birds.

*MEANING*; Stay away from narrow-minded people, those that bring you down. Eagle flies with Eagles. Keep good company.

2. *Eagles have an Accurate Vision.* They have the ability to focus on something as far as 5km away. No matter the obstacles, the eagle will not move his focus from the prey until he grabs it.

*MEANING*; Have a vision and remain focused no matter what the obstacles and you will succeed.

3. *Eagles do not Eat Dead things. They Feed only on Fresh Prey.*

*MEANING*; Do not rely on your past success, keep looking for new frontiers to conquer. Leave your past where it belongs, in the past.

4. *Eagles Love the Storm.*
When clouds gather, the eagle gets excited, the eagle uses the storms wind to lift itself higher. Once it finds the wind of the storm, the eagle uses the raging storm to lift itself above the clouds. This gives the eagle an opportunity to glide and rest its wings. In the meantime, all the other birds hide in the branches and leaves of the tree.

*MEANING*; Face your challenges head on knowing that these will make you emerge stronger and better than you were. We can use the storms of life to rise to greater heights. Achievers are not afraid to rise to greater heights. Achievers are not afraid of challenges, rather they relish them and use them profitably.

5. *When a Female Eagle Meets a Male Eagle* and they want to mate, she flies down to earth, picks a twig and flies back into the air with the male eagle in hot pursuit. Once she has reached a height high enough for her, she drops the twig and let it fall to the ground while she watches. The male eagle chases after the twig and catches it before it reached the ground, then bring it back to the female eagle. The female eagle grabs the twig and flies to a much higher altitude and drops the twig again for the male eagle to chase. This goes on for hours with the height increasing each time until the female eagle is assured that the male eagle has mastered the art of picking the twig which shows commitment. Then and only then will she allow him to mate with her.

*MEANING*; Whether in private life or business, one should test the commitment of the people intended for partnership.

6. *Eagles Prepare for Training;*
They remove the feathers and soft grass in the nest so that the young ones get uncomfortable in preparation for flying and eventually flies when it becomes unbearable to stay in the nest.

*MEANING*; Leave your Comfort Zone, there is No Growth there.

7. *When the Eagle Grows Old,*
His feathers becomes weak and cannot take him as fast and as high as it should. This makes him weak and could make him die. So he retires to a place far away in the mountains. While there, he plucks out the weak feathers on his body and breaks its beaks and claws against the rocks until he is completely bare; a very bloody and painful process. Then he stays in this hiding place until he has grown new feathers, new beaks and claws and then he comes out flying higher than before.

*MEANING*; We occasionally need to shed off old habit no matter how difficult, things that burden us or add no value to our lives should be let go of.

ASCRIBE TO THE LORD, O FAMILIES
Psalm 96:7-9

Sometimes, we give credit to scientist, philosophers, inventors or investors for the progress and development we have in the society. We may even feel we are healthy because we keep the rules of personal hygiene, we are protected because we follow safety rules tenaciously, we are living good lives because of our planning and determination to have success in life. While God does not expect us to be careless in life, we must acknowledge that every good that comes from Him alone.

The psalmist reminds us that we must consciously ascribe all glory to God. He enjoins us not to give God's glory to men or idols but to Him alone who gives life to all things and upholds the world by the word of His power. We must give to Him offerings in appreciation of His kindness. For every goodness and blessing you will have in this New Year, make a commitment to always ascribe glory and strength to the Lord.

Wisdom: Ascribing all glory to God opens doors for more of His good deeds.
Food for Thought: What have you achieved without God?
Follow up Action: Count your blessings and give glory to God for them.
Prayer: Lord, open my eyes to see more of your goodness around me.

O SING TO THE LORD
I Chronicles 16:23-34

I once heard of a rich man who, having exhausted all the money on him at a party took off him outer garment and his pair of shoes and gave them to the musician. The man was not drunk, he only went that far because the musician sang his praise skillfully. If mortal man longs for praise, then God must be perpetually given praise because of His praise worthy nature.

The psalmist understood this truth very well and therefore calls us to sing to the Lord day after day. We ought to sing praise to God not just because of what He has done or promised to do but because of who He is.

The psalmist said, "Sing to the Lord, all the earth, proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all people. For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise, he is to be feared above all gods" (vv.23-25). In all His ways, God is good. Northing changes Him, and He cannot fail. This is why king David invites all the heavens, the trees, the sea, the field to sing joyfully unto the Lord. It is a privilege for us to sing unto God. If humans refuse to sing, inanimate objects will continue to praise Him.

Wisdom: Singing unto God is a way of filling your own space in the universal choir.
Food for Thought: How often can you sing praise unto God?
Follow of Action: Encourage the members of your family to always praise God in songs.
Prayer: Lord, give me fresh anointing for singing your praise.
