THURSDAY NOVEMBER 14, 2024

THE TEST OF PURITY

KEY VERSE: “And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out” (Genesis 39:12).

TEXT: GENESIS 39:1-12

It has been said that what happens to you does not make you who you are but reveals who you are. A person’s real character shines forth in what the person does when confronted with the relentless come-hither signals of an agent or practitioner of seduction.

In Potiphar’s house, Joseph was at the cusp of his destiny. Then came along Mrs. Potiphar with the offer of illicit pleasure; he would be her toy boy with all the potential “benefits” it promised. The temptress tried flirting and, when that failed, resorted to aggressive pursuit. Joseph’s flat refusal of the persistent solicitations by his master’s wife was a testament to his righteousness. But English poet and playwright William Congreve’s observation is apt, “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”; Joseph would pay very dearly for daring to stand for holiness. But God was with him through it all.

Maintaining moral purity today may be a tedious swim against the tide, but it endears one. The ‘Joseph Test’ confronts the modern-day believer in the form of barefaced nudity on the streets, lust and immorality promoted and popularised in society and undisguised erotica po*******hy in the social media. Heaven’s pilgrims need a healthy dose of divine grace and personal discipline to maintain holiness of heart and life.

What seemed like a setback for Joseph was the last hurdle he had to jump before entering the glorious destiny prepared for him. God’s presence with him charted his course from prison to Pharaoh’s palace. Personal purity has its rewards. If you, like Joseph, decide for moral pureness, you can expect God’s companionship through the vicissitudes of life and assurance of victory at last.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Your stand for holiness is the sure step to greatness.

TUESDAY NOVEMBER 5, 2024

DIVINE CHASTISEMENT

TEXT: 2 KINGS 23:26-30

KEY VERSE: "Notwithstanding the LORD turned not from the fierceness of his great wrath, wherewith his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations that Manasseh had provoked him withal" (2 KINGS 23:26).

God is merciful but also holy. His justice makes it impossible for Him to overlook the atrocities of the unrepentant sinner who despises His warning and call to follow the path of righteousness and obedience. God's mercy does not condone sin; He condemns and judges it. Although God loves all men, He hates their sins and, thus, calls them to repentance so He can grant them pardon (Psalm 7:11).

Today's passage exposes the damage that the wicked and idolatrous lifestyle of Manasseh, the king and his compromising subjects, brought upon Judah. Judah was taken to exile from their land due to divine chastisement. This, no doubt, negated the promise the Lord gave Abraham to settle his generation in Canaan, a land flowing with milk and honey. It is clear that sin provokes God to anger and will destroy the perpetrators and all those collaborating with the wicked.

We must be careful of our actions and steps because we might be able to dictate our actions but cannot dictate the consequences. The constant derailment of Judah from God's will and word brought the untold hardship of seventy years in exile and captivity, showing clearly that God's promises are conditional. We will continue to enjoy His benefits if we abide by His word. Similarly, the presumptuous action of Josiah led to his untimely death, despite the account of the revival he initiated in Judah. Believers must watch against taking presumptuous steps and actions without receiving clear direction from God.

To escape God's wrath, we must walk with Him sincerely and serve Him with all our hearts. If you have deviated from His will, you must repent immediately before judgment falls. God will not spare the wicked wh

GOD promises that joy is found in His presence. If you’ve accepted *JESUS* as your *LORD and SAVIOR*, then His presence lives inside of you. That means you can have joy 24/7!

Joy manifests when you focus your heart on the heavenly Father and praise Him for who He is and what He’s done in your life. The Scripture says that He inhabits the praises of His people. When you begin to praise and thank Him, you are in His presence. You have access to His full joy.

Today, know that no matter what’s going on around you, GOD wants you to experience His supernatural joy and peace at all times. That’s why He sent *His Son, JESUS*, into the world, so He could live inside you. Don’t waste another minute feeling burdened or condemned. Let the joy of the *LORD* be your strength and move forward in the victory He’s prepared for you!

Have you stopped to consider that today is a special gift from GOD? Sometimes, our days can be so full and busy that we forget how fragile life really is. It can be easy to allow little things to creep in and steal our peace and joy. Maybe something doesn’t go our way, or someone says something upsetting. Even traffic can cause us to lose focus if we let it. We have to remember that each day is a gift. If we choose to focus on what’s wrong, we’ll miss the blessing that each day has to offer.

I encourage you today; don’t let the precious moments of life pass you by. Don’t wait for holidays and birthdays to show people that you care. Remember, each day is unique and irreplaceable. You have been given time that can be invested or wasted; hours that can be used or misused. That’s why the psalmist pray

GOD’s desire is to see you grow and increase in every area of your life, especially in your love for others. That’s because love is the greatest thing, and it is all that matters in eternity. At the end of the day, at the end of our lives here on earth, love is what will last forever!

Notice this verse tells us that love and faith are connected. It says in another verse that faith works by love. Love isn’t about feelings and emotions; it’s about the choice to treat people the way GOD tells us to in His Word. We are never more like GOD than when we are walking in love - when we are being patient and kind; when we are extending grace and mercy and forgiving others the way *CHRIST* has forgiven us. The more we know Him, and the more we know His Word, the more we will walk in love.
