TOPIC: BREAKING THE GRASSHOPPER MENTALITY TO RECEIVE YOUR DOUBLE HARVEST
TEXT: Rom 8:32; Ps 24:1, 2; Num 13:30-33
A. INTRODUCTION
The Bible teaches very clearly that this earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof and that if God could give us Jesus Christ, His best possession, He will not withhold anything from us. But many
Christians are experiencing small and delayed harvests. Why?
The answer is mentality, the way we think, our mindset.
B. THE GRASSHOPPER MENTALITY
One of the greatest enemies of our harvests and multiplication is the Grasshopper Mentality. A grasshopper mentality is the pattern of thinking that makes a person be little himself or herself. It is a wrong perception of oneself that makes one feel small, incapable, unworthy, or limited. The origin of that expression is in the story of the 12 spies (Numbers 13:31-33). It was not the giants that defeated Israel; their perception of themselves defeated them even before any confrontation.
C. SIGNS OF A GRASSHOPPER MENTALITY
(a) Fear of big things
(b) Small expectations
(c) Inferiority complex
(d) Doubts concerning things and including God's promises
(e) Reluctance to make attempts
(f) Feeling comfortable with pain and struggle
D. THE EFFECTS OF WRONG MENTALITY ON HARVESTS
(a) It limits expectations (Eph 3:20)
(b) It limits your faith (Matt 9:29)
(c) It limits your actions (James 2:17)
E. EXAMPLES
(1) 10 Spies vs 2 Spies (Numbers 14:46-9): Ten spies saw giants and felt like grasshoppers. But two spies saw God's promises and divine backing.
(2) The Widow of the Prophet (2 Kings 4:1-7): The prophet told her "Borrow not a few vessels".
God did not stop the flow of the oil. The number of vessels she borrowed determined when the oil stopped. So, remember, your capacity determines your quantity.
F. CONCLUSION:
Do not limit your harvest.
