How can I build a consistent prayer life?
This is one question I have been receiving on daily basis. I made this comment somewhere and I thought I should share it here too.
I like talking about this because I once had problems with my prayer life, I complained, cried etc still I couldn't maintain consistency in prayer till God taught me some of these secrets that helped me build the prayer life I longed for.
Firstly, building a strong and consistent prayer life isn't a day job.
Having a consistent prayer life isn't imparted.
To have one, you have to consistently make your moves and be intentional about it.
1) Sit down and ask yourself when/what time can you spend time with God in prayers and word daily without any disturbance.
2) Start with an achievable number of hours.
( This is why most people fail in their quest to building a prayer life.
If you are trying to build a
your prayer life, please don't start by trying to pray for 6hours daily because you may end up not achieving that daily but you can start by setting small achievable goals and as you grow, you increase the time spent.
You can start with 30mins, 1hour, 2hours etc.
3)No matter where you are, you should only be found observing your quiet time once it's the time.
Example: If you choose to study the word and pray by 11pm, once it's 11pm, you should only be found studying the word/praying not minding if you travelled or not.
If your goal is to spend 2hrs in His presence daily, you can break it into segments, 45mins for the word, 1hour for prayers then 15 mins for meditation.
Do this consistently for 14-21days and it will become a part of you.
You can set an alarm to wake you up at the exact time you want to observe your quiet time.
With time, you will notice that you will no longer need it to wake you up because once it's few minutes to your quiet time, you will feel a gentle tap.
Also, a time will come when 2hrs ( ie the number of mins/hours you chose ) wouldn't be enough to be with Him anymore because you walk in with the intension to spend just 2hours but end up spending 3hrs or more.
At this point, you increase the number of hours.
Hope this helps someone.
Much love.
